If Vegas can come up with a plan.....

Just saw this on a Las Vegas message board. It's the plan from the CEO of the Wynn. Not saying right or wrong but it is nice to see someone thinking of a plan for the future. If Vegas finds a way to make it happen why not cruise lines? They are after all floating hotels...

Not a stress free and relaxing vacation following these protocols.

Very interesting read. With the guidelines/rules/limitations for Vegas I can only wonder what ships will be like.

This is what they do with guests who come on with COVID symptoms... makes me wonder what they do with guests on a ship. Leave them on a port of call or let them stay on quarantine.  Better make sure you have travel and health insurance going forward.

Wearing masks requirement should eliminate smoking in Casinos. Hope it carries over to Royal.

I saw a meme on Facebook of a mask made out of the fly area of jeans where the zipper could be unzipped to drink through a straw or smoke a cigarette. Where there's a will there's a way😂

Vegas is a land based hotel within minutes of hospitals. A cruise ship can be hundreds and sometimes a thousand or more miles (on TAs and TPs) from the nearest hospital.   They are not comparable in that regard.

I am glad they are coming up with plans, as is Disney, but even a theme park is a totally different beast than a cruise ship.

TA's and TP's may go away for a while, or travel empty

Elevators will always be a choke point

That is an easy fix, just turn off the elevators on a ship. There have been countless posts on this site stating cruising as we know it will never be the same. In my opinion eliminating the use of elevators would be an easy change. They could always have one or two elevators controlled by staff that could be used by people who cannot physically use stairs.

I agree that this will probably be one of the things they do, at least initially. They could have one employee at each elevator bank controlling how many get on. The downside is that more people will be using the stairs and touching the handrails which will need to be cleaned constantly. Fall injuries on the stairs may increase as well.

Not really.  It's far easier to get someone from a hotel to a hospital than from a cruise ship to a hospital.

So now we need an elevator symbol marked on our sea pass?  🤔

Either that or a big increase in scooter rentals 😉

Definitely will be a challenge.

BTW, that one employee become 50-60 on some ships.  Then you need at least two shifts,  maybe three

If anyone has Covid-19 symptoms at embarkation, they will not be allowed to board.

If they develop symptoms after the cruise begin, to CDC requirements for cruises to start again include quarantining passengers who have symptoms, upgrading their onboard medical facilities and providing 3 ships for handling an outbreak - a hospital ship, quarantine ship and residential ship for those providing care.

Many travel insurance companies are not covering or restricting claims for Covid-19 since it now a known pandemic, so I’m not sure that will help much.

Here is an excerpt from the CDC requirements and a link to the website.

“e. Protocols for any COVID-19 testing, including details relating to the shore-side transport, administration, and operationalization of laboratory work if onboard laboratory work is not feasible;

f. Onboard isolation, quarantine, and social distancing protocols to minimize the risk of transmission and spread of COVID-19;

g. Onboard medical staffing, including number and type of staff, and equipment in sufficient quantity to provide a hospital level of care (e.g., ventilators, facemasks, personal protective equipment) for the infected without the need for hospitalization onshore;

h. An outbreak management and response plan to provision and assist an affected cruise ship that relies on industry resources, e.g., mobilization of additional cruise ships or other vessels to act as “hospital” ship for the infected, “quarantine” ship for the exposed, and “residential” ship for those providing care and treatment, including the ability to transport individuals between ships as needed;”

Yes.  In the same way infants under 1 year are not allowed on a TA or TP or any route with 3 sea days in a row. They may just extend that to all passengers in the future

Would not be surprised. If they attempt to cruise with 50% capacity for social distancing as some reports say they will be looking for all the extra revenue they can get.

Can you go across the top and avoid the 3 sea days?

Maybe more Panama Canal sailings or round the horn to get ships to Alaska.

Med fleet never leaves, winters in Canaries

Lots of possibilities
