If Vegas can come up with a plan.....

Since this thread was originally about Vegas you need to look for the interview that Anderson Cooper had with the mayor of Las Vegas. She’s listed as an independent, I guess neither party wanted her. She wants the city to become a control group for not having social distancing. 🤯🤯🤯

Yeah, I saw it.  She was all over the map and the conversation kinda went around in circles, reminded me of some of the debates here on CC.

I came away with the impression the mayor in Vegas is more of a ceremonial/ photo-op / figure head position.

Maybe they could modify the wow-bands to deliver an electrical shock if the wearer gets within 6 feet of another person! 😁

I can't say I did not think the same thing.

I was in a Publix grocery store just yesterday and was amazed at the number of shoppers that could not understand or comply with the one way aisle system marked clearly on the floors throughout the store. I met someone in every single aisle going the wrong way, most stopping just next to me and completely oblivious to the social distancing attempt made by the retailer. This was even at an hour where the store was no where near capacity.

With this behavior in a crisis in the home community of the shopper, I sure wont expect much better of a traveler, with the 'I paid good money for this experience' mentality, on  a cruise ship far from home and further 'entitled' by frequent traveler 'status.'

Electric shock it is!

🤣🤣🤣  Have you SEEN Royal's web site?

Royal uses only outside consultants (contractors) for all 'Special projects'  This includes everything from the Wow band, various apps and even the water slides and all ship enhancements.

All of the many failures of technology for Royal over the years have been brought to us by one or more of these 100s of consultants and contractors.

By the way, all contractors were the first to go from Royal back on March 11th prior to the ceasing of operations.

Yeah...it's easy to take shots at Royal's IT department because of some visible problems.  I remember reading an article a couple of years ago that said much of their technology focus was on ship rather than off ship.  They do have cool tech integrated into many on ship experiences that works well.  It's all a matter of where they want to focus their time and money.

The story of the Las Vegas mayor is just one of the many societal and cultural flaws being brought to the forefront by this pandemic.

She and her former mob lawyer husband have 'ruled' Las Vegas since 1999. They seem to have brought much economic good to the city.

Their focus on highly visible economics and growth, without concern for long term planning and sustainability in a crisis situation are probably not that uncommon across the country and we will see many more such examples in the coming days and weeks. Hopefully most will not be a full train wreck as her interview has been.

One of the greatest recent achievements is bringing the UNLV Medical School in 2017, where she is quoted:

"“You need high-quality medical care and research to build a world-class city,” Carolyn says. “You need world-class culture, and you need major league sports. That drives everything else.”

The books and movie screenplays almost write themselves on a daily basis.

No one will get off.

I was on a commuter jet once, Captain came on and said he needed people to move so the plane would be balanced. No takers. Then he said we're not leaving until 4 people move back. Still no takers. It took over 5 minutes for 4 people to move.

That's weird.

I'm so used to sitting in the middle seat, in the back of the plane, that I'd be the first one to jump up and move.  I could care less where I sit, as long as I'm close to Mr. Pcur.  Me and my Bose noise cancelling headphone can sit anywhere.

It was several people towards the front who had open seats next to them.

None.

I read, saw or heard somewhere ( I'm losing track of where I get information) that home made cloth masks are only 2% effective.

Where would the casinos be able to procure enough masks to supply their employees and customers?

No, a protection factor of 2.  Meaning it stops about 50% of the size particle tested.

A surgical mask is a protection factor between 4 and 5.

Both of these are more about stopping the person wearing them from exposing others.  If EVERYONE is wearing one, then this works well.

And N95 has a protection factor of over 100 in the one test study I saw recently (that provided the other PF I quoted also).

Just saw this on a Las Vegas message board. It's the plan from the CEO of the Wynn. Not saying right or wrong but it is nice to see someone thinking of a plan for the future. If Vegas finds a way to make it happen why not cruise lines? They are after all floating hotels...
