I would also prefer to know sooner rather than later, but I am afraid that a decision made early could only be a decision to cancel.  If progress is being made in clearing the way to sail but more time is needed to work out the issues, I would prefer to wait a bit longer in hope of a positive result.

They have to make an announcement by the end of the month.

Hello @Retired LEO! Is this confirmed/official? In the same boat as OP: hoping to book an end of August cruise, but don't want to pull the trigger quite yet!

They've been going one month at a time. The last cancellations were announced at the end of May. Some have posted that an announcement is coming this week, perhaps Tuesday. It's all wait and see at this point.

You would think if they are going to cancel August that they would want to give enough notice. But then again who's to say what they're thinking.

Tuesday?....yeah, that's typical....my final payment for Harmony 9/13 is due on Monday.  😉

I made final payment on our August Mariner cruise.  If I did not have the $18 drink package and some pretty good OBC I might not have.  We will see what happens.  If they cancel I'll take the credit and will be able to move the OBC to a different sailing.  If we don't like the new rules and they still sail we can get a FCC    My guess for sailing to start would be October, strictly a guess

I tried the FCC route...did not work well for me.  Took weeks longer than the next cancelled cruise to get anything, and it wasn't 125%...turned out to be 113%.

On the second one I took the straight cash refund...got everything back to the penny..faster.  All cruises going forward (including the last four of them) have been cash refund requests.  Going to have some hefty credit balance on my CC when the rest of them hit.

Just got our shore excursion refund today that I asked for 4 weeks ago.

First one we took the FCC, second one the $$.  Also I cancelled a different booking for 2021 which just had the deposit paid and it has been a month and still no refund on that one.

I do at least (due to Canada announcement forcing RCI's hand for September Canada cruises) have two that are just deposits (Grandeur out of Baltimore)...and did not have to make final on those.  Whew...

They have not cancelled any cruises outside of final payment, to date, with the possible exception of some late season Alaska, and fall foliage cruises (these were not RCI call)

We need to wait for an official announcement, but if at all the only ships we will see operating in August will be Allure and maybe Spectrum.

IMHO...probably Harmony and Mariner as well.  Still just speculation on all of it.

That seems like way to late,  many have to make travel  and travel related arrangements .

Our  first cancellation was just 2 days prior to the cruise,  March 13, for a March 15 cruise, but surely  they know  the cruises scheduled to  sail  in August.   We  all suspect they need to wait as long as possible to  hold on to cash, but with all the cancellations in the past three months, at this point , two weeks prior is simply not acceptable.

I have a   harmony cruise in late  August and don't expect it to sail.  It is casino comp so I can't lift and shift.  I do have some upgrade money involved and don't want FCC, so I'll wait for RCCL to make an announcement.  If they cancel, I'll get my money back.  If they sail, I'll likely  cancel and take the  FCC

If they do sail, I have NO desire to among the  few cruises.  I'll be happy to wait till the kinks are worked out.

The OP makes a great question regarding staff and crew returning to ship

Hope you stay well.

M

MSC Cruises and now Costa Cruises are re-hiring crew for an August 1st re-start in Europe.

Fingers crossed our Allure Med cruise goes ahead in mid-September.

Yep,  and TUI just announced that they will start in July

I read it as August 1st?

TUI has announced it won't relaunch its holiday services until 10 July 2020, while all of its Marella Cruises have also been placed on hold until 30 July.
