CruzinNoony Posted November 16, 2020 #301 Share Posted November 16, 2020 DH and I are all unpacked and waiting to get out there in the open seas. We always enjoy our embarkation lunch in the dining room. This time was no exception. I have the same thing every time: avocado appetizer, raviolis and the salmon. No dessert. Recently, we were on a ship that had a different menu. I actually complained to the maitre d. LOL.

One of my brand new, completely updated, full size, super powered, ULTRA VORTEX vacuum cleaners, just imported from China, is waiting to wing its way to you via Amazon, the river of course! 🤣 (Dude looks like a lady....) The song, ‘Sailing,’ has many memories for us as here in the UK, as when we sailed from Southampton, the band of the Royal Marines would play for us on the dockside as we sailed away. As the ropes were let go and the tugs pulled us out and away from the dock, this would be the final song played to wish us ‘Bon Voyage.’ But that, too, is a far distant memory.... We look forward to you joining us onboard Ruby. That would have been so wonderful! The "Love Boat" horn on Royal class Princess ships just wouldn't be the same. 😀 Thanks for the vacuum! Love the purple writing and see you soon. The weather here is glorious! 🚢

cnd crsr Posted November 16, 2020 #309 Share Posted November 16, 2020 Hi Ellie, I am enjoying the tour around the Ruby, it has been a few (okay maybe more than a few) years since we sailed on her... but I have noticed how small she seems after the Royal class ships. My DH would laugh at that comment as I have always said my favourite ships are the small ones. Please keep the Vortex vacuums coming our way, I was the recipient of 2 on the Majestic and I couldn't manage without them. Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed how handy I would find this on a ship as well as in my everyday life. Gail

ellie1145 Posted November 17, 2020 Author #315 Share Posted November 17, 2020 🎶 “I got lines on my lips, Spanx on my hips and a jar of under eye cream. I’m acting up, in my underwire cup And I don’t care what my kids think! I need no permission, did I mention it’s too late for wrinkle prevention!” 🎶 (anyone recognise this ditty? Need the singer and the title of the song, please. Prizes include but not limited to an ULTRA VORTEX cleaner, or a handmade orchid lei - winner chooses) As Ruby Princess sails away from Los Angeles and out into the Pacific Ocean, DH and I make our way up to the Horizon court for a welcome cup of tea, before we return to our cabin to get ready for dinner. We have Traditional Dining at 7.30 so we have time for a shower before dressing for dinner. There have been a few activities going on today, including a Complimentary Facial Rejuvenation, which took place at 12.30 pm, but unfortunately we were in lunch so I missed it. I really must try harder as I could do with some advice on rejuvenating my wrinkles, or perhaps I’m a lost cause as I seem to have let myself go recently..... Unfortunately I was too late for the free Tongue and Pulse Analysis with Dr Wu, but DH checked both my tongue and my pulse and thankfully he was able to confirm that I still seem to be alive, so I am not too worried. There are several showings on Movies Under the Stars today including Cirque du Soleil: Algeria at 11.00 am, Cheryl Crow: C’mon America 2003 at 1.00 pm, Concerts at Sea: Mumford and Sons: Live From South Africa - Dust and Thunder. There is a first showing of the movie, Crazy Rich Asians at 9.00 pm. 2

I am a Beyonce fan - this was a parody of “All the single ladies” sung by Anita Renfroe - “All the wrinkle ladies” Hi there smelmel, glad you are enjoying the trip. We do need some people to be travelling along quietly as I’m afraid our recent Cruising Adventurers’ embarkation lunch party was a little too raucous! In fact, the Captain, a rather sombre Brit, had to come down and ask us to quieten down. .... You are absolutely correct, about ‘All the Wrinkled Ladies.’ What a brilliant spoof it is. I love Beyoncé too, but this is even better than her version! Of course one of my brand new, completely updated, full size, super powered, Vortex vacuum cleaners, just imported from China, is waiting to wing its way to you via Amazon, the river of course! Unless you would prefer one of my unique and exotic leis made by my own fair hand, from specially flown in orchids. Papa Yoda Posted November 17, 2020 #321 Share Posted November 17, 2020 On 11/15/2020 at 3:00 PM, ellie1145 said: The Angel's Gate Light On our many trips to the USA I have frequently bought little lighthouse ornaments from a series of historic lighthouses around America. So I am delighted that, as we leave the safety of the Los Angeles harbour, we see a beautiful lighthouse on our port side. Called the Angels Gate Light is stands at the end of the 9,250 ft long breakwater, constructed of millions of tons of rock transported from Catalina Island. Apparently, every deep sea ship which arrives on its maiden voyage receives a plaque which displays the lighthouse, and an official greeting from the City of Los Angeles. A great reminder of our wonderful 28 day HI-Samoa-Tahiti voyage on the Emerald! On a bridge tour of the Emerald I spied this:

ellie1145 Posted November 17, 2020 Author #324 Share Posted November 17, 2020 There is a Scavenger Hunt at 5.00 pm which sounds fun, and the usual Tequila tasting at 4.30 pm, Effy Jewellery Store Unveiling and Champagne Reception at 5.30pm, and plenty of live music around the ship, as well as Karaoke in Club Fusion at 7.45 pm. The Production Show, Magic to Do, is at 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm but unfortunately neither time fits in, so sadly, we miss it. Here is a list of the main entertainment highlights for the cruise: Movies Under the Stars Bohemian Rhapsody - watched this on a plane and really enjoyed it Crazy Rich Asians - also watched on a plane, very funny First Man - watched it on the plane coming over, very good, worth watching Green Book - missed this Instant Family - warm and funny family movie, has the ‘feel good’ factor Mama Mia! Here We Go Again - watched this time and time again on our in-room TV. Love singing along (in private only!) Johnny English Strikes Again - not our cup of tea Christopher Robin - missed this one I’m afraid The Old Man and the Gun - missed this one too! The Greatest Showman - one of my favourite musicals, watched it on our in-room TV Princess Theatre Production Shows Stardust Magic to Do Colours of the World Entertainers Vocal Impressionist Mike Wilson Instrumentalist - Craig Richard Male Vocalist. - Paul Hughes Female Vocalist - Janene Caramielo Tribute Act - Jesse and Colleen Kazemek Comic - Robbie Prints Ventriloquist - Dan Horn Magician - Julienne Loss Live Music Party Band - The Main Offenders Walker Black Duo Solo Guitar/Vocalist - Mary Simons Piano - Richard Sulik Classical Duo - Souvenir Duo Now as you know, we love Trivia, but today the ‘Welcome Aboard Trivia’ at 7.30 pm, clashes with dinner, although we just scrape in to the ‘Name That Melody Quiz’ in the Explorer’s Lounge at 9.15 pm. We hope that we will find some people to play Trivia with on a regular basis, but tomorrow there will be more quizzes we are sure.
ellie1145 Posted November 18, 2020 Author #325 Share Posted November 18, 2020 We have left the port of San Pedro and are on our way out to sea. When I was investigating the cruise I read as much as I could about what to expect in the Pacific Ocean, and I became aware that it might well be a little rough at times. Well, it certainly is. We have 2195 miles to go to get to Hilo. Our speed will average 18.9 knots, the fastest of the whole cruise. Now I am sorry to say that for some unknown reason I don’t seem to have taken a a photo of either the dinner menu or our meal. Maybe we were starving and just couldn’t wait to gobble it up? Anyway, it’s been a long and exciting day and after a quick cuppa in the Horizon Court we wend our weary way back to our cabin, where we are soon drifting off to the land of nod. Good night, sleep tight, see you in the morning!
