I remember back when this started the Maryland governor closing the port to cruises. https://governor.maryland.gov/2020/03/12/governor-hogan-announces-major-actions-to-protect-public-health-limit-spread-of-covid-19-pandemic/ So theorhetically if Carnival gets it's act together with these pre-cruising requirements, they can cruise from any port? That would be great because San Diego was set to get a CCL ship as well. The Hawaii Governor tried closing the ports and was told no since they are federally controlled.

If they invent a new name, it gives the impression things have changed and probably for the better. Or just flip a coin for the decision. That's just it. There would be a new name, but the staff, the way they do business, the ships would still be the same. There's really nothing new...

richfret Posted November 19, 2020 #79 Share Posted November 19, 2020 Except, they would have got rid of all their bills and with new stock they would even have some cash. That would be new.

They would not get to keep the ships, creditors would take them back. Either pay for them or repossession. Bankruptcy will not allow them to change the terms. bitemyfly Posted November 19, 2020 #89 Share Posted November 19, 2020 Several different of bankruptcies even a pre packaged bankruptcy where a co arranges terms with creditors goes into and out of bankruptcy in days . Relieving pre arranged debt with major collateral backed debt and wiping out others all together. Not say this will happen but there are many moves a money making enterprise has in their tool bag. Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension. The charade is the ever evolving response that isn't working. We locked down, we wore masks, we shut down to the point many small businesses and entire industries are being destroyed. Yet, here we are again with another spike as bad as the first proving none of those tactics work. It is a community spread virus and we can't outsmart it.

First, how many people will continue to book cruises after losing thousands of dollars on previously booked cruises. Second, and this was already mentioned, what if the creditors take ownership of the ships as payment for debt owed by Carnival. In this situation Carnival doesn’t have any ships left. And having fun in these stressful times is important for maintaining one's mental health.

One thing all of these cruise companies have going for them is the creditors really don't want to own a bunch of billion dollar boats. When you repossess a house you can just resell it and get some of your money back. Not much of a market for billion dollar cruise ships. They would get pennies on the dollar and take a serious bath on it.
