Is Celebrity no longer going to offer the Bermuda cruises out of Cape Liberty for '22?

Never met a ship I didn't like 😃   As far as size, though, I must say that last year we were on a ship that holds a bit over 900 passengers and really enjoyed it. No kids, no casino, no photographers bugging you for pictures, no set dinner time, no charge for specialty restaurants, etc. That (less busy, less structured, and certainly less noisy) environment has great appeal for us. But I think we should experience one of the large ships as well. Friends of ours were on the Oasis and said we HAVE to do it sometime.

We sailed on a small ship 35 years ago touring the greek islands- it had zero bells and whistles and was great for sightseeing- also an old Celebrity ship- the Galaxy, which was our first mainstream cruise.  Now, we actually prefer newer ships with all of the  the bells and whistles, while we do not go zip lining- fun to see and watch as well as all of the other entertainment venues.  We really enjoy choice of dining and activities now.

We were SO glad to add Celebrity to our list of lines that have taken us to Bermuda back in August of '19, after a 11 year absence.  And CAN'T WAIT to repeat the experience.   It was actually the first time I cruised without any advance planning or research, and was so much better for it.   No expectations, and everything seemed new again.

We tried  it once out of Florida  and disliked it very much,  feels more like a mall than a ship.  Dining and overall service just not as good as X even in Specialty Restaurants.. We had to pre reserve shows and events, and even then stand on lines.  Not all the shows were that great,  shopping was mall like ( nothing high end)  and we felt crowded in many spaces!

The diamond breakfast area and evening  get together were very good.  We mostly hung out at the adults only solarium ..aft, until it got way too crowded.

Seems best for families as it had nice play areas, a carousel and  lots of events

for kiddos.  We were actualy  happy to see the cruise end!

Another lol....some of the points you raise are exactly what, thus far, has kept me from getting on a ship with 5,000+ other passengers. I can totally see where it would have a 'mall'-type feel to it. Can't even imagine wanting to book a room that faces in towards the promenade shops - or whatever it might be called. If I'm on a ship, I want a room where I can see the water.

Yeah....I get it...and agree....but as I'm getting older (and grumpier?) I find myself wanting to move increasingly farther away from that sort of scene, and can easily enjoy a ship where there are no kids and some of the hoopla therewith. Now, someday, when or if I ever have grandkids and might want to take them on a cruise, I'm sure it'll involve a whole different mindset, but for right now - a more quiet and peaceful, less crowded mode of cruising sounds attractive...or at least cruises scheduled at times when there are less likely to be kids - such as the fall Canada / NE trips. LOVED both of the ones we did - actually the Summit was our last fall cruise before covid hit. I've had more than one occasion to look back on it rather wistfully.

We also enjoy peace and quiet some times- but also enjoy diversion and choice.  We book a suite and when we want quiet, enjoy the suite lounge and deck- also the big ships have many quiet places to relax.  So you don't have to be in crowded noisy parts of the ship unless you want to.

We had a balc cabin.. but on our floor we could not cross to elevs on other side..

Deck did not go through.  We adjusted but  apparently did not choose wisely!

Our dtr and sil coincidentally booked the same cruise. She was not a fan.  He liked the zip line and flow rider.  His camera was stolen at one of the events ( quest?)  Security treated them like the wrongdoers..notwithstanding he has  a security clearance level they could only  dream about.

We enjoyed cruising Summit  more than once..Carib, Hawaii, Bermuda...sad our  2020 to Bermuda, Charleston and Newport did not materialize!

In 2017, DW and I took our kids and grandkids for a 7-night cruise on the Allure of the Seas. Prior to that experience, all of our cruises had been on Celebrity and HAL on a variety of ships all smaller, quieter and  kid free compared to the Allure. But this was planned as a family outing with over 70 years separating the youngest and oldest, and DW and I were quite prepared for a different cruise than we were used to.

Looking back, as we often do, we loved our time aboard the Allure. While there's no doubt that many of our fond memories were due to sharing the cruise with the family, there were many hours each day when it was just DW and I enjoying the ship together. As @Cruise a holic pointed out, there are quiet places to relax and get away from the madding crowd should you so choose.

Would we sail on the Allure or similar sized ship again? It would depend on the length and itinerary of available cruises. We typically prefer 14-night or longer cruises, although we settle for 12-night winter getaways on Celebrity. Or will, once the restrictions are lifted. Our choice of cruise is very much based on itinerary, not ship, and if a large ship offered something appealing, we would never reject it because of its size. But even if we never sail again on a ship that size, we are happy to have had the experience and would recommend that you give it a try at least once.

Our approach as well, but another factor is - given a choice between not flying and flying, we'll take non-flying out of Baltimore or Cape Liberty. Not opposed to flying though if it's a cruise itinerary we really want.

Unfortunately, our choices for non-flying cruises are very limited without long road trips. :classic_sad:

That Bermuda /Charleston/Newport  itin was awesome.  We were booked on it for May 2020. ( I believe you were as well)   We cancelled before Celeb cancelled it..so we are stuck with a large OBC  & did not get our cruise ins costs  refunded as part of the deal. We have one booked cruise..lifted and shifted to Reflection 2022, from Connie  out of TPA 2021, ( which was recently cancelled anyhow) .

Tired after all the cancelled / deposit torment.  Not booking anything til we  use our FCC or somehow get the value back from X..

Yes, it was a great itinerary.  So different from the same old, same old from Celebrity.  To have it cancelled two years in a row was too much for me.  I have FCCs from Celebrity that I will probably never get to use as I fully suspect they will cancel my Iceland/Greenland itineraries again next year (they're 14 nights each).  I had a good run with Celebrity (would have made Zenith this year had they not cancelled all my cruises), but I suspect my days of sailing with them are over.  Their new pricing model essentially renders my Elite+ or potential Zenith status moot.  I have no use for the same old, same old 7-night itineraries and I'm tired of having my cruises cancelled two years in a row and then waiting forever to get my money back.

I'm hoping they have the same Greenland/Iceland itineraries in 2022 and I can L&S to 2022.

At least once a year , typically in August, we like to leave from NY or NJ- a no fly cruise- Princess used to have a cruise to New England from Bklyn, NY which was a great easy port to leave from.  However, the ship, Caribbean princess was fair at best-  But we took the cruise- Princess stopped offering the cruise.  Then for many years we took the Summit out of NJ to Bermuda and enjoyed that.  Again, stopped cruising in August to Bermuda-.  We once took the Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas out of NJ in March- and found it not great at all- a big disappointment.  We also took NCL, Breakaway out of Manhattan.  The Haven was good but the rest of the ship was so crowded it was like steerage on the titanic. We are now scheduled for the Oasis of the Seas this August.  We really enjoy the Oasis class ships, and are thrilled that this ship will now sail out of NJ.  As a bonus for ourselves, we also have an Oasis May cruise booked, but that might not be a real go.  Hopefully, next winter we can safely sail out of florida and enjoy the Caribbean which IMO have much better itineraries.

They do have the Greenland/Iceland in 2022.  Starts on the 5th if I remember but not eligible for L&S as of today.

We are scheduled on the Summit transatlantic in August 2021,  I don't see any similar cruises to Iceland/Greenland in 2022.

I think the 2022 Summit slide was released by Celebrity by accident for a day about a month ago.  The sailing was listed on that.  It was subsequently taken down.  I believe that is what this poster was referring to.

I've seen that info and I was not sure it was accurate.  The cruise did not go to Southampton and it was strange that the return leg left from a different city.  I'm hoping that info was bad.

7-Aug-22 12 Greenland & Iceland New Jersey: Cape Liberty, At Sea, Nova Scotia: Halifax, At Sea, Newfoundland: St John’s, At Sea, At Sea, Greenland: Qaqortoq, Prins Christian Sund (Cruise), At Sea, Iceland: Akureyri, Iceland: Isafjordur, Iceland: Reykjavik

19-Aug-22 12 Greenland & Iceland Iceland: Reykjavik , Iceland: Isafjordur , Iceland: Akureyri , At Sea, Prins Christian Sund (Cruise), At Sea, Qaqortoq,, Greenland, At Sea, At Sea, Newfoundland: St John’s, At Sea, Nova Scotia: Halifax, At Sea, Massachusetts: Boston

This is part of the Summit 2022 schedule that was put up for a day about a month ago. Notice it's only a 12 day cruise in each direction, so you can't do a Lift and Shift. It only goes to Iceland, not Southampton.

Also, it may not happen as it's not official and may be changed.

It is actually more likely to sail not going to the UK.  Cruises out of Southampton not likely till fall because their hospital system in normal times has little spare capacity.

Could Celebrity allow a L&S in August?  Yes, possible if L&S is extended.  Who know what will happen by August.  The almost impossible part is starting in the US being more than 7 days.

Like many who are booked we will see what happens.

I have said before that most cruises scheduled for 2021 will be changed.

Date. . . Duration. . . Ports. . . Cancelled

Living there.  The British National Health Service is funded by the government.  In their nationalized system everything is controlled and limited.  Am sure you have read about how it takes months and sometimes years for "elective surgery".  A good friend waited 4 years on the list for rotator cuff shoulder surgery.  When finally scheduled was told he was over 65 and thus no longer eligible.  Similar in Canada.

The National Institute of Health. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3551445/#!po=0.757576.

Shows the US having 13 - 30 ICU beds per 100K population.  The UK has 3.5 - 5.8.  The US has huge reserve capacity in part to our "Snowbirds" that created large numbers of beds in Arizona Texas and Florida used mostly seasonally.
