Carnival Test Cruiser Selection

CCL CEO made that statement as to not piss off its customers and by hoping the CDC made that requirement so the blame of that decision was not on Carnival, it was a smart business move. The bad publicity with just a few cruisers w covid can tank the restart. I am more concerned about ppl not following the rules and there being fights and such. I'm booked 9n vista Aug 28 and hope it sails at 95% vaccinated but with lessened mask guidelines

Arnold Donald never said cruise lines under the Carnival umbrella couldn't mandate vaccines. He only said Corp wouldn't mandate vaccines.

I love cruising more than any other type of vacation, but someone would have to pay me to use a vacation week and follow all of those test cruise rules.  Heck, I don't even want to cruise with the CDC's fully vaccinated cruise rules of wearing a mask at a sit down dinner or on the sun deck.

My husband wants me to reschedule our August cruise, even if it's not cancelled.  It's disappointing because we are fully vaccinated and thought, at the most, they would require vaccines and we could cruise with reasonable rules that are applied to land based pools and restaurants.  Our cruise is on the Mardi Gras, lido deck, $600 OBC, and free beverages.  Ugh.  And now I have to seriously consider letting that go.

It's a tough decision but Mardi Gras hasn't left Barcelona so each day it looks less likely that it will cruise in August. It might be the better decision to wait knowing that it's probably going to cancel.

Yup!  I'm hoping something happens that changes that "dining room/bar mandate" to what we experience in land-based restaurants with walk to your table with a mask on, sit, take mask off.  Leave table, put mask back on.  That I could handle.

I have no reason to think this won't be how it works.

Well, as Jean Luke Picard always said: "Let it be so. Engage!" That's how I'm going to handle it. 👍

I have the time but dont have a regular doctor. Be hard to go to a random doctor who doesnt know me and ask him to sign a letter that it's safe for me to cruise. I doubt a doctor who doesnt know you or even one that does would sign a note about it being safe. Liability.

I think those test cruises just for that reason wouldn't be easy to find volunteers.

If your vaccinated you don't need a note.

  • The cruise ship operator must ensure all volunteer passengers have either:
    • Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 using an S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-authorized vaccine or a vaccine product that has received emergency use listing from the World Health Organization (WHO); or
    • If not fully vaccinated, written documentation from a healthcare provider or self-certified statement that the volunteer passenger has no medical conditions that would place the volunteer at high risk for severe COVID-19 as determined through CDC guidance.

They are just waiting on the ruling on this lawsuit.  I suspect the judge will side with the CDC.  I agree the rules are crazy if you factor the entire ship is vaccinated.  But currently that will never be the case.  Considering I can go on eBay and get a customized vaccine card right now they will have to have very strict rules because we can't really sue the cruise lines which might be necessary if an outbreak happens and people die or the whole ship has to be quarantined for 2 weeks. It should not be American taxpayers responsible to float that bill which is what happened at the beginning of this pandemic.  They need to be able to 100% verify the vaccination records.  Then you can remove a lot of these rules.

Are they really for sale?? A week or 2 ago someone was arrested in my area for selling them (vaccine cards)

Is that what it says? Take a bite of food and put your mask back on? Take a sip of beer and put your mask back on? That's never happening anywhere.

Loads of things are never happening anywhere that cruise lines are somehow going to be required to do. You can go to Disney without a vaccine, you can go to a casino for a week without a vaccine, but no cruise ship, those are special.

Masks do not need to be worn in the water…”

There air around water has magical properties, just like the air around the table at a restaurant.

That's exactly what I was thinking!  All my meals would be on my balcony.  There is no way I will sit at a table constantly removing my mask to eat and drink.  It sounds like the CDC just doesn't want cruising to ever happen.  Maybe that is the one industry that hasn't paid up.

That is precisely what’s going on.

Some people want to shame others into getting the vaccine.  They call them names, say the virus would be eliminated if only everyone would get the vaccines, and act like any views other than their own don't matter.

My husband and I got the Pfizer vaccine.  I have a couple of relatives who said they would never get it, but changed their minds.  Another two said they wouldn't get it, but now both say they are considering it.  Some people need time to feel comfortable that the vaccines are safe.  There is nothing wrong with people waiting until they are more comfortable with putting a new vaccine into their bodies.

Shaming people and calling them names to get people to do what you want them to do, no matter what it is, does not work and is very disrespectful.

Thank you, I said the same thing and a few proceeded to copy/paste what the CDC said.

" Extended Time" is subjective. I'm also of the "opinion" that you wear the mask to and from. While seated eating/drinking one won't be required to put a mask on every xxx amount of minutes.

A normal dinner on a cruise is about an hour to hour and a half, thats normal not extended.

Common Sense needs to prevail.

Jean Luc Picard's standard line was "Make it So."  (Usually "Make it so, Number One.")  Occasionally accompanied shortly thereafter by "Engage!" if going to Warp Speed for some reason.  Sorry, just sensitive to mis-spelled names and mis-quoted famous lines. The Beatles sang "Let It Be"...

Anyway...

That makes perfect sense, completely analogous to what happens in land-based restaurants (where they still require masks).  I'm honestly quite surprised at the ultra-conservative stance the CDC is taking - it does not align with the common practices observed elsewhere in everyday life.

That would be Jean-Luc Picard.

Good excuse to plant my butt at the Alchemy Bar and do damage to the Cheers program.

I'm very curious about how bars will be handled.  If there isn't a good Piano Bar player, we spend A LOT of time just chilling at Alchemy.  If I have to have a mask on while sitting at a bar in between sips, I do not see myself cruising. We have a nice aft balcony booked but I do not want to feel confined to it.

Based on other cruises sailing right now you will not be allowed to sit at any bar.
