@mamaofami, the standard pre-flight briefing includes "If the cabin loses pressure masks will come down.  Put your own mask on first before helping others.".  Good advice not only when flying.

Have you checked with your vet?  They may have some alternatives and thoughts. Our son usually dog sits for us but he is always busy so this last time we  boarded him there. It’s the only place that will let us keep our dog’s sweater on (he is hairless and always cold 🥶).

Good Monday morning, all.  Lots to think about today, and hope for healing for those suffering.  My dear neighbour, Ruth, just told us she is having to go in later this month for surgery for colon cancer, she is 87 and has a heart condition, so it's going to be risky.  Please say a prayer for her.  We are going to volunteer to take her in for her second jab when that comes up - she is looking very frail and I worry about her standing in line for too long.  We sussed out the place when we went on Saturday, and I noticed a bunch of wheelchairs at the entrance, so I inquired about them, and we will be able to take her in in one of those.  I'll call ahead to arrange it.

 

Talking about jabs, I discovered yesterday that my shot on Saturday has not shown up in my online record - it now says "Overdue".  Pat's is properly recorded, so we went in yesterday to talk to a supervisor about it.  She said I am in the VIHA record (Vancouver Island Health Authority),  but she doesn't know why it didn't make it to the BC website.  Gee, great!  I'm not too keen to have to go for another shot - I'll give it a couple more days and then make a fuss.  I do have my card.

It's nice to hear how you are helping your neighbor get her vaccine.  Helping out others in need is a good thing!  We have a disabled neighbor who lives alone now and help him by taking his mail to his porch for him to retrieve later in the day (or night).  We also take his trash can down the hilly driveway from the top of the driveway, then return it up by the garage again after it's empty.  DH has told him to call anytime he needs something done which he can't accomplish on his own.  For instance, he's replaced the batteries in his smoke detectors before.  The poor guy had a bad fall a couple years ago and he's so slow in walking, that if UPS or FedEx ring the doorbell for a signature, he can't get there before they give up and drive away.  Sad part is he's only a couple years older than DH.  If we're going to be away from home, we make arrangements with another neighbor to take over until we get back.  🙂

Happy Monday morning to all!  My flag is flying, as it does most days.

 

Haven’t posted in a few days.  Friday and Saturday I helped at my step-daughter’s Church with their food bank.  About 50 volunteers working to distribute a semi load of food.  It was very hard work, but so rewarding.  Glad I could help, but was exhausted yesterday.  Not as young as I once was.
 

@rafinmd, thinking of you today.  Cherish your memories.

@mamaofami, please take care of yourself.  Caregivers need to take care of themselves first, so that they can extend care to others.

 

Still no rain in this area, and we are expecting temps of 100+ all week.

 

Guess my August cruise on  Nieuw Amsterdam is a go—got the “your final payment is due” email!

Good morning, all! We celebrated Dragon Boat Festival yesterday, to keep pace with Taiwan. I use big leaf maple instead of bamboo leaves to wrap the Zongzi (rice dumplings) and was pleasantly surprised that none of them unraveled or exploded while cooking. Those, and Char Sui made the day before, and stir fried veggies was our dinner. Tonight is leftovers.

 

Maple leaf wrapped Zongzi after cooking. Not all perfectly triangular, but successful non the less!

DH has gone to the big island (Vancouver Island) to do some shopping. I’ve stayed home to relax and enjoy the birds and the woods and do a little botanical printing. I’m trying out a new wrapping method that will either make life much easier, or completely ruin what I’ve done. Tune in tomorrow, when I will either be elated or deflated. Time will tell.

@rafinmdRoy, thinking of you today on Rogers birthday. Time heals, but some days it opens sudden rifts and for a moment the loss is fresh again.

@atexsix those salmon tacos should be just as good open faced on toast as in a tortilla. In fact, most things that go in a tortilla are good on toast.

Good Afternoon All, thanks for the daily report.  Another busy work morning, only one more planned zoom session today.  Apparently today is also National Strawberry Shortcake Day.  That is a treat I could go for anytime.  It's a rainy day here so am glad I don’t have to commute.  I hope everyone has a nice day.

Thank goodness it’s recorded in the VIHA system. At least if there’s an issue, it won’t turn into your word against a government computers!

Good morning / afternoon to all Daily-ites , Rich and Roy and all contributors , I was happy to see that today it was the turn for another nice port we had been to on one of the Holland ships , Puerto Chacabuco  . We were there on Feb 2nd , 2015 with the Zaandam on our cruise from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires. 

 

In a way we were a little bit lucky to do our small group tour from the port that day because on the last cruise before ours some upset local fisherman had been on strike and occupied and blocked the bridge which was near the port and none of the groups or large tours were able to get past the strikers .

 

Beautiful scenery when we approached the port which is very small and where we had to tender. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After a short walk out of port we found our mini bus and met up with our guide 

Here we are crossing the bridge which was guarded by a number of local police so there would be no disruption or occupation by strikers .

 

 

After a nice scenic ride we entered the National Parc where we admired the beautiful flora and fauna and scenery .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After another short ride we stopped in the middle of nowhere had to walk through some fields and grazing lands to end up at a large hall converted from an old barn where we were welcomed by the locals with a drink 

 

 

 

 

 

In the fire place a lamb was being roasted for those who chose lamb for lunch while I had a couple of delicious empanadas , with two different kind of fillings .

 

 

 

 

 

After lunch it was time for a lovely show of a Folk dance teacher doing a number of dances with some of his pupils .

 

 

 

 

At the end of this lovely show a couple from our tour were chosen to participate  , here is DW , Martha , glad I did not have to perform .

 

 

 

It was than time to start to go back on a different scenic route to port .

 

 

 

 

 

 A wonderful day was had by all , leaving than to go through all of the many channels and fjords towards Ponta Arenas where we would arrive 3 days later 

 

 

Hope I did not take up too much space today but it was very hard to choose from the many pictures I had , while describing a little bit of the wonderful day and our story of Port Chacabuco.

I’m with Seasick Sailor on the kitty option.  I think you have a legitimate concern.  I would be concerned for the neighbour and the kitty, both.

That's a good idea.  I think I shy away from anything pub grubby, I avoid barbeque ribs and chicken for the same reason, such a mess!

That's a wonderful idea, I never thought about toast!  I wonder if the galley would do a substitute like that?

Exactly.  I think you all realized before I did that I've subconsciously made my decision, I guess I just needed to hear it.

I did not. I actually wasn't even going to call them because I had them do his 3 year shots last March in anticipation of our April sailing that got covid cancelled.

I’ve always found them to be amazingly flexible and accommodating- but you have to ask. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t do that for you, especially with such an easy swap.

Thanks @sailingdutchy for the Puerto Chacabuco pictures.  We have stopped there, but not on the same tour.  We have stayed in Chile a couple of times before cruises (in Santiago) and always feel safe and comfortable in that country.  However, if I came upon that huge insect, I would not let it walk on my hand.  Just as we enjoy Taiwan and Japan when we visit Asia, Chile is the country we would spend a week in in South America.

@Horizon chaser 1957 loved your zongzi pictures.  I would never think that they could me made with maple instead of bamboo leaves.  We are having some for dinner tonight that are from Taiwan.  Bought them last week at a Chinese market near Seattle.  They were so good that we went back that same evening to stock up on a few packages of them even though it was 110 miles round trip.
