Rare Vict0riann Posted October 15, 2021 Author #352 Share Posted October 15, 2021 I feel so sorry for the Captain. He is forever having to apologize to the passengers, and I wonder if they will now be changing back to Marghera. I guess we all knew that the new world of cruising would be different! We actually took a Hop On bus this morning from just outside the port gate. They said it would be a drive around and then a tour of Diocletian’s palace and the old town, and I figured we could skip the second part and wander on our own, as we have done the walking tour a couple of times, but when we got on board, the guide said we would switch it around and do the walking part first as it would be less crowded. So I really got in my steps, because at the end of the drive around we were dropped off near the palace again, and had to walk back to the ship. The first time we were here, on Prinsendam, we parked right in town, now each time we visit, we seem to be at a more distant dock. It was definitely a hop on, no hopping off bus ride. There were a few interesting spots further out of town, and museums, etc., where it would have been nice to take some time. I wasn’t sure if it was because of COVID and the sites didn’t want us, or if perhaps the end of the season and not enough tours going. The guide was good, though. I was hungry when we got back, so we had lunch, and then a nap, to warm up. We are on the same side as VMax 1700 so my pictures from the ship are just like his. 14

I feel very lucky that ours is scheduled for 4:30-5:00! Don’t blame you a bit. Beautiful sky tonight over Split. 17
Rare Vict0riann Posted October 16, 2021 Author #356 Share Posted October 16, 2021 The Pinnacle Gala last night was interesting. I can’t say I will do it again, but I’m glad we tried it. Martha had hers without the wine, and that was probably a good idea. Not that there was a lot of wine, there was a white wine with our canapés in the Ocean Bar, I don’t know why they used the Ocean Bar, unless it was to have the pianist play ( much too loudly, you couldn’t hear yourself think). The canapés were very nice, just three little morsels, spicy pork belly ( just Martha and Pat indulged), tuna, and a pate, which was delicious. Then we were escorted down a flight to the Pinnacle. We had a table for four. Food and drink flowed. I’ll post photos if I can. No luck - I’ll try later, do a practice on the Daily, someone on the 18th roll call has posted that Canadians are being invited back to cruise to Fort Lauderdale, now that the rules are changing!

Rare VMax1700 Posted October 16, 2021 #359 Share Posted October 16, 2021 We had originally booked a tour to the vineyards today in Korcula, but as it is a tender port and to give my back a further 24 hours of recovery, we decided that we would not go. Last evening (12 hours before excursion due to depart) I went to the Excursion desk and told them that we would not be going. I didn't want them holding back the tour to wait for us nor did I want to receive a phone call at 7.50 am to remind me of the tour. So, it was just a courtesy to others (and myself) and I expected the value lost. However Alejandro at the Excursions Desk, immediately offered to rebook us on a tour for Sunday if we wished. He said it was too late to cancel but he could do an 'exchange'. So we have booked a tour to Medieval Piran tomorrow. I was really impressed with the service that was offered as I fully expected to lose the credit for the excursion. Take a bow Alejandro! 25

Rare Vict0riann Posted October 16, 2021 Author #362 Share Posted October 16, 2021 That’s nice of them, Colin. I think they are going out of their way to oblige on this cruise. I have stayed on board today, too, as the rich meal last night did not agree with me and I decided it was safer to stay close to home. However I am now feeling much better, and I’m looking forward to Canaletto tonight. How did the testing go?

Tudor said every cruise over 10 days will have a Pinnacle Gala, and that’s it. I have to say I don’t think it was really worth $120, plus gratuity, plus an already-paid-for MDR dinner. So far the best has been Tamarind, for the price. I’ll let you know about Canaletto… When Pat gets back from the tour today, we will be seriously discussing extending the cruise all the way to Fort Lauderdale. 😉

Rare VMax1700 Posted October 16, 2021 #374 Share Posted October 16, 2021 Once again, we took one for the team and after a leisurely lunch in the Lido, we decided to visit deck 3 of MDR for afternoon tea - just for the photo op and some food porn. So here it is. Nicely presented on the stand and tea poured from a pot (not hot water and a tea bag placed in the cup). 11
