Thank you!  How in the world was that monastery built up there?  I keep looking for cruises there but none of the cruise lines I would want to sail on are going there.  Or at least they didn't when I last checked.  Something to check on again.

We saw pulleys they used, crazy!    We were lucky that the Koningsdam had an overnight stop in Athens as it is a long way to Meteora and we then could do an overnight trip there.
Sometimes Cunard stops there or perhaps you could take a cruise that starts or ends in Athens?

An update on the unvaccinated aide. He is a very nice guy who was afraid to get vaccinated until the last possible day he could work without it. In his wisdom he asked Sam to accompany him for his second shot which made us laugh. How is Sam supposed to get them help or home an hour away. The agency has apologized profusely for not checking this whole thing out but they say we were in such a turmoil when we fired the last person they didn’t think to check it out when he said he was vaccinated. So today they sent their nurse to do a covid test on him and will do so every week till 2 weeks after he’s vaccinated. Of course it’s too late for us to do anything to prevent us from getting sick from him. He did quarrentine for 2 weeks before coming here. He exposed us and my daughter and her husband so we’re just hoping for the best. Unbelievable, but on the bright side, he’s a very nice soft spoken guy and Sam really likes him, so as upset as we are about his only having had one shot, and not telling the agency we’re now just crossing our fingers. This has been hell for us for 4 months. I was going to change agencies but the owner of the other one told me my long care insurance company owed them $48,000;and lost all their paperwork. That made me stay with what we had. These aides make $12 an hour so how bright can they really be ? It’s very difficult to get help now in this business as well as in others. People don’t want to work. I am paying three times what he makes and the agency pays their office staff and keeps the rest.

I hope all of you (and the aide) continue to be negative as you're all tested.  And on top of that the paperwork issues!  When it rains it pours.  Prayers for you all that everyone remains healthy and your other aide comes home soon.🙏

I hate to even mention this but we may be the next Daily family to have the appliance curse hit us.  Trying to prepare dinner DH said the oven was taking too long to preheat.  We tried turning off and resetting but it appears the lower heating coil isn't working properly today.  Drat!  I suppose we'll have to call Kitchenaid and ask for the name of a reputable repair person in our area.  We've worked our oven harder during the last 19 months staying home, since we used to spend months every year traveling (giving the oven a rest supposedly).  I've never lived in a home 10 years so I half expected something to break down.  The longest we'd stayed in one place was just under 8 years before this home.  Fingers crossed it's repairable and doesn't need a complete replacement (or a chip in the motherboard).🤞  It's a wall oven/microwave combo so could be a pretty penny.

They pulled the brick up by a pulley and carved.  It’s an incredible spot.  So grateful we got there when the Prinsendam had it on it’s itinerary.

It’s really phenomenal.  Hundreds of years and the mosaics and tiles are still really clear.  Some are damaged but few.  It’s a tricky walk down though (up was no problem).

Yes, it's pretty amazing!  We walked up in a very dense fog.  Since I couldn't take photos from below I bought a book in the gift shop that had some nice photos in it.  That cruise was on the Prinsendam, too.  Our first cruise on her in 2014.

Crossing my fingers that the “repairable appliance” gremlin visited you. Not his more problematic brother.

Good evening all, I hope everyone had a great day today.

Moments of frustration seems to be never ending. I have been dealing with some major medical issues the past month, hopefully things are getting better, but trying to get a specialist appointment is the latest frustration, 1st available is MAY next year 😱. I’ve felt the positive thoughts on here even without posting about it❤️

I was in Kirkwall on a land trip about 20 years ago. Would love to go back. , I would love to get to see Sheila Fleet jewelry studio again . Google her collection,

Blessings and prayers to all on our lists

Thanks to Rich for the Daily and to Roy for the Care and Celebration lists, also to everyone who has posted photos, humour and recipes.

It was frustrating yesterday to have no electricity, makes us realise how much we depend on it.  Appreciate being able to use appliances today.

Today is another cold mostly grey day, feeble sunshine occasionally breaks through, temperature 7 C.

Further inland, snow has fallen

@rafinmd Roy, hope your new AC system  works efficiently.

The number of delta cases in Auckland continues to rise.

Stay safe, take care everyone.

Yikes.  I hope it was warmer than that yesterday when your power was down.  Fortunately, while my HVAC was down inside temp stayed about 21-22C.

Yesterday was 8 C.  Had our gas fire going.

Were sorry for the men working up the power pole in rain and sleet

Feels like we have  returned to winter!!.

I agree that's a perfect reason to book another cruise!  I would love to get to Volos, Greece to visit Meteora again. So foggy I couldn't see it last time!

Yes, Meteora was a not to be missed from Volos, though I'm not sure if it's offered on many HAL itineraries. From the long gone Pacific Princess..............

Yikes on the appliance gremlin.  I hope it can be fixed but I am betting you are better off just replacing it (sad but true). Hope a fix works for you 🤞

LOL on never being in a house for 10 years.  We’ve been here for over 25 and done a pile of maintenance and appliance replacements.  I’m sure there will be more.

I moved all the time when I was “mobile” with the bank so when I said no more when we were getting married and  got the new job (which I loved as it was customer focused) we settled here.  Can’t believe how long ago it was.

Unfortunately, my aching  back is saying DH created too many gardens for me when I was younger.  LOL.

We’re over 25 years in this house and are redoing what we’ve redone!  We’re sure we’ve rebuilt it all nearly,   Lol!   Two years ago after a major ice dam caused us to take the living room down to the studs, we decided to replace the new four year old windows with a much larger one.   The money pit!
Poor DH replaced the garburator for the third time,  and it still didn’t work,  the plumber was also perplexed,  turns out it was a loose wire,  oh well now we have a new one, 😂. I think cruising is much more economical!

I laugh when I say I haven't gotten far in life. We're living in the house my parents built 2 years before I was born. I do have the bigger bedroom now though. So my old bedroom has had my daughter and now her daughter is living with us and using it (along with her cat and rabbits).

I think we've replaced just about everything so who knows what will go next.

I had that happen in the original oven I had and was able to have the coil replaced.  Wall units may be another story.  I remember when my sister left me with three teenagers to feed and no oven while she flew off to Switzerland for two weeks.  Her wall oven went bad and they had to wait to get one in that fit the space.  We grilled a lot while they were gone.

I've been in my home for 34 years now and as others have said, I am redoing what I redid.  But, that is all ok.   Mostly just cosmetics, no big reconstructions right now. In the past two years I have put on a new roof and new siding.  I also had a front porch built and did some landscaping and tree pruning.  Money pit!  This year I am painting.

Debbie, I do hope it's just the coil and not the entire unit!  I remember when a relative had their wall oven go out, they had the hardest time finding a new set up that fit their space.  Ours is in a tall cabinet with drawers beneath and cupboard above and I'm sure the opening for the ovens was cut to fit exactly.

Your updates to your home are what you would expect after 34 years and I'm sure you've maintained it well.  The nightmare repair to a home would be if the walls were riddled with termites, water damage, mold, dry rot, etc. and the wall had to be completely torn down and reconstructed.  Or foundation issues where all would have to be re-done.  Sounds like you've been lucky so far, and I hope the good luck continues for you.🤞

When I did the new siding last January I did have to rebuild a bit of the back wall of the house in my bedroom area.  This was due to water damage from an improperly installed roof years ago.  I can't tell you how many people I had out to check that roof and all the things they tried.  I finally replaced the roof again, long before it should have needed it.  I also had to replace some of the plywood decking for the roof.  In the wall I had to replace studs and headers.  Grrrr.   I would have gone after the first roofer but he packed up and moved to places unknown.

Now you're talking big money.  Lumber, insulation, roofing material and plywood add up fast!  And what about new windows?  I wish our windows were better here (builder grade), but with so many of them we won't be replacing them with nice ones unless we're here 20 years or more.  We have about 3 dozen windows!

I replaced windows in 2005.  Three of them have failed and are streaked badly.  They need to be replaced but I can't find the warranty.  I remember I put it somewhere safe, but I can't figure out where that is!
