MedallionNet: refundable or non-refundable OBC?

As of November 1, 2021, 50% "refund" for being platinum or elite was NON-refundable OBC.  This was on the Grand Princess.  Has anyone else challenged or have verification that it is refundable OBC?

I am going to rattle chains again at HQ for tomorrow.  I hope they are not dodging me because they have reneged on a policy.

Thanks…it’s crazy that the refund is shown as both refundable & non-refundable in the onboard folio…utter confusion by Princess with no one willing to correct it.

After reading the double-talk experiences of those who attempted to get it fixed onboard, I didn’t attempt it because I needed the MedallionNet 50% refund credit for my bill. I did go to the PSD to get an under $25 cash refund of my remaining military credit.

It’s one of the OceanReady options on all of my cruises before & during a cruise.

Thank you for the screenshot. I don't have that option on that menu. How long before your cruise did it appear?

That option was added to the MC app about 2 months ago before my cruise 3 weeks ago & it currently shows for my cruises next Spring and Fall. I don’t know what type of device you’re using but that’s what I see on my Apple devices…do you have the most recent MC app update (3.5 for iOS)?

Princess has promised a web-based site to complete the OceanReady process later this month (delayed from late October) that might have the MedallionNet purchase option. 🤞

@Astro FlyerI notice that you lovely advertisement for the Web Based Ocean Ready reflects "late October 2021".  November is almost over.  2021 is reaching the end.  What does your Crystal Ball (oops...wrong cruise line) say about 2022?

I do not relish the idea of trying to "teach", or do for, my older friends the - how to set up Medallion Class app on their devices.  It would be so much less painful to sign them up using a computer.  I sure hope this happens sooner than later.

Please use your influence (along with @Steelers36) to light a fire under Ocean Navigators to expedite this roll out.  Let's add @Thrak and all the other techno-savvy posters).  The more, the merrier.

Based on Princess’ slow rollout of MC which began 4 years ago, I’m not optimistic that a fully functional web-based OceanReady site will be ready anytime soon.

Princess has already said the web based functions will not happen until 1Q 2022.

Here is the latest - and it aligns with what I had been told before.

Yes, MC App should be charging those who are eligible for the 50% discount, the NET cost of MedallionNet.  This is an extra feature the IT team is working on and there is no particular ETA at this time.  (I realize their top priority is bringing MC App features to Princess.com ( a new Personalizer) and that project is running behind time, so other things may be sidelined).  When implemented, the App will recognize Circle Status and apply the discount.

So, we can book in advance now, pay full cost, and get the OBC on board.  Although the wording of this morning's email did not explicitly confirm the Refundable - which I had been informed of before - I believe it is the case.  Here is another reason for that.

In light of the fact that guests cannot pre-order MedallionNet at this time and only pay the 50% cost, the pre-cruise price is being offered on Embarkation - Day 1.  In this case, your folio is charged the net cost.  Therefore, in order to be fair and equal treatment, anyone pre-ordering has to get REFUNDABLE OBC.  I am almost embarrassed to keep asking the question and maintain that what happened when EMERALD and GRAND first returned to sea was an error and a fluke of poor training, etc.

Beginning Day 2, the internet price changes to the on-board pricing.  In my situation, voyages are far enough away, there is no need to pre-purchase internet now.  I will wait until the App is updated.  Otherwise, I would just wait until Day 1 - like the "old days".

Thank you! Our next sailing isn't until 12/12 on the CB. Very interested to see if will have to go through the same Non-Ref traps we did on the Emerald last month.

Your diligence is much appreciated, sir.

Thanks for the research & for sharing the information.

Our next cruises are in Spring 2022 and hopefully this snafu will be corrected by then. If not then expect to get the 50% discounted price on day one of the cruise.

I am hoping someone on an upcoming cruise will verify that purchasing the Medallion Net as an Elite will be charged a net price of $5/day, if purchased onboard on the first day.  $5 a day and not involving refundable/non-refundable OBC.

Leaving for next cruise in 2 weeks and did not get Princess Plus. On the positive side, I was able to reserve enough cruises / gratuities / bottles to leave a miniscule amount for casino. Yes, I'll still owe but just a small amount. Won't buy wifi for my next cruise (Spring 22) until this gets firmed up.

OTOH will there be any way to use OBC to buy internet before I board?

Edited by Ombud
Correcting bc I go in 2 weeks not 3. Better start packing😀

I know RIGHT NOW it's only excursions but recently I've been able to reserve more in excursions than I had in OBC. IF I had the option I'd do Internet before + excursions onboard once I had my internet OBC refund
