Sorry to hear the hotel is sub-par. But that sounds pretty much the same as what you’d get in a UK quarantine hotel if you’d been to a red list country. The hotel provides whatever service the government pays it to provide. You are not the customer so you get what you’re given and don’t get a choice.

It may well be that Royal had little choice where to send you - that may have been the Spanish authorities’ decision, and they dictate the service you receive.

As for letting you off at one of the Italian ports - that would depend on whether the Italian authorities agreed. And - sorry to be frank - why would they?

and this post validates my previous comment for American's!!

Not quite right,  A friend came back from Kenya for her daughters wedding last summer when it was red.  She choose and prebooked a four star hotel at Heathrow. She could choose from a menu and the food was delivered, take away style, three times a day. She said it was very good food.  She had an escorted walk twice a day around the grounds of the hotel.  It was during Wimbledon week and she said it was a good excuse to watch all the games.

She had to pay £1750 for 10 days, not the UK Government.

The OPs experience sounds awful, especially trying to keep a young child entertained .

This could happen to anyone and is a pretty sobering thought for those of us who have European cruises booked.

This sounds horrible, please let us know if you manage to contact RCL and any updates.

Not sure why people don't believe it, there have been other reports of positive cases being quarantined but in better hotels. It could happen to any of us who are cruising outside of our home country at the moment. I assume any foreign visitors to the UK or US would be in the same situation if they tested positive.

You know there are always three sides to a story right? Not sure I'm buying this one.

What aren't you buying,  that it happened?, that they had to quarantine?, or that the hotel is so awful?

I think RC (and other cruise lines) should have a duty of care if you potentially got sick on their ship. They should have someone from their port office or head office check up that all is OK during the quarantine. Partly for good PR and partly because the infection could of happened on their ship, either from another guest, or from a crew member .

I get that they are paying, but surely it's worth having a slightly better class of hotel than getting bad publicity and all this bad will

The hotel could be charging RC high prices but not delivering good service and RC should be made aware

This is the first 24 hours in the hotel,  hopefully Royal Caribbean will be in contact with you soon and things will improve

It is very unfortunate this family is having a horrible quarantine experience where many others have said that royal goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is taken care of.

From other posters I have heard they have a care team member check in daily to make sure they are ok.

I suspect royal has no control over what hotels accept quarantine people in spain and what protocols those hotels offer but hopefully they can get this family what they need.

I think RC are doing their best but the situation is now for the Spanish authorities and we have to follow their rules. RC have been in contact and have been supportive.

I had a brief conversation with a gentleman from Germany (next hotel room down, through the window) he was onboard an Aida ship (are they carnival?) he was disembarked sent here where he had to pay €1400 to stay in this S hole (which is on booking.com) for €40 per night. His experience no one from Aida are interested, whereas RC are in contact with me and are trying to arrange some kind of Uber Eats so we can get some food. Plus when the time comes will fly us back to the UK.

The only quarantine hotel situations I’m familiar with are those at colleges. Two meals a day get dropped off, a couple of water bottles, one hour of outside time. Most pay to have food delivered which stings when you are paying $7000+ a semester for room and board. OP can you pay for room service?

There was some comments yesterday about testing, what I will say is we requested a test (not RC) we did so because my daughter had a slight cough. Even though our current situation is really awful, I have no regrets, everyone onboard has a responsibility for the health of other passengers.

covid for my daughter was mild but potentially could kill someone else onboard. It wasn’t a situation to be selfish.

I want to get home with my family ASAP but we will cruise again.

no room service, a bag of absolute slop is left outside your door everyday. We’re leaving on bread rolls and the tiny bottles of water given at the same time. There are no other options if you ring reception they put down the phone.

I am sorry to hear you're going through this @Rangers1982. This was the nightmare in the back of my mind right up until our disembarkation tests came back negative on Harmony last month. I think someone near us must have tested positive as there was a security guard outside one of the doors in our corridor all day. 😞

Wishing you and your family well, a speedy recovery for your daughter and safe travels home as soon as you are allowed.

Thank you for doing the right thing.  Hopefully royal can arrange proper food for your family.  I hope everyone is feeling ok.

As said other some other cruise lines are not taking care of quarantine expenses like royal.

Unfortunately anyone traveling these days needs to be mentality prepared to be quarantined.

Good luck and keep us posted🤩

Yes I must have two accounts and cruise critic is a little glitchy on iPad.

That may be the source of the skepticism of one or more posters to the Leewads post, framed as an "update" but not connected to your original post.

Hope all works out and glad that the worst that you and your family are experiencing are quarantine issues and not adverse health affects.  I'd echo the recommendation of others that you reach out to RCL for some assistance with provision of adequate meals.  Best wishes...

I really feel for you, have they put you in an airport hotel? This must be so difficult with kids, hope things improve and you all get home soon! Dianne

Hotel is out of the hands of RC and is the Spanish authorities that organised but it is bleak. We are confined to room 24/7 maybe for 9 more days. The room has nothing apart from 2 beds and a small tv 📺 (all in Spanish)

RC have been trying to help and have added funds to an Uber eats account, hopefully we can try and order something but it’s all in Spanish. Hopefully the staff will bring food to the door as they haven’t been very helpful so far.

Nightmare! We are away in January but this time not with RCL and it’s a worry if something like this happens. You did the right thing at the time to help others, We will be back on RCL in May and June returning to Barca and I would hate this to happen, surely this must becoming to an end it’s been such awful experiences for everyone. The kids will be glad to get back to school I bet!

Your situation truly sucks but it might be time to make some lemonade out of the bunch of Lemons you have been given (capital L because they are BIG Lemons). The next nine days sounds like a good time to learn some Spanish.

Todo lo mejor!

You're going to be fluent at the end of this!  Think positive!  Bilingual child too!

Cannot believe the different experience from the previous Barcelona report of quarantine and those currently in Cyprus in the villas.

you don’t get a menu, you just get a bag left outside your door, every bag has a tiny bottle of water, a pear, some kind of coconut yogurt and in a box just some kind of slop mainly it’s some kind of cold fish, and a small bread roll. Everything is plastic including the knife and forks. If this food was served in prison it would start a riot.
