I just had word that a dear cousin in Virginia has died.  His daughters have not decided whether/how to tell his widow, as she has memory loss.  For many years when we lived nearby we spent all the holidays together, and our children grew up together.

Ann I am so sorry to hear this news. My prayers are with your entire family. I hope great memories help ease the pain of his passing.

Some cousins are more like siblings.

Saluting all veterans for their service and sacrifice.

11/11/11  we were leaving Ft. Lauderdale on the Statendam,  with Captain Albert.  Because of the busy day, a service was held the next day.

VictOriann and Horizon Chaser 1957. My condolences for your losses.

@grapau27Love the pictures of Mijas.  Delicious  ice cream at the Mayan Monkey.

Thank you to all who posted the beautiful pictures of Geiranger. We have been to Norway, but not that port. Would love to go back.

Ann, I'm very sorry to hear about your cousin passing.   I know how difficult it will be for his wife, even if she's told.  My mother had that problem and she was always asking for my Dad after he passed.  She didn't remember he had gone even after being reminded he was in heaven every day.  She died 6 months later.

My sympathy to all in the family.

The pictures of the Queen Elizabeth burdened with troops brought back wonderful memories of my dad and his four younger brothers. They all went over on the Queen Mary and, blessedly, all returned safely.

I have a number of uniformed portraits of my dad, gone 35 years now, but only this one informal picture taken at RAF Burtonwood (Warrington, England) that was posted online by one of his barrack mates.  Dad was stationed there for almost four years with the 8th Army Air Force as a mechanic on the B17 Flying Fortress bombers.  Dad, who enlisted at age 33, is in the rear, wearing light coveralls, smoking a cigarette, and watching the card game in his very spartan barracks.

Unfortunately, by the time I found this picture online, the man who posted it and who had identified all the men in his picture had passed, too. So, I wasn't able to thank him for this glimpse into my dad's off hours.Screenshot_20200901-214836.thumb.png.39b6a39467234c88d839d9a644949e44.png

Ann, I’m so sorry to hear about your dear cousin. What a difficult decision for his daughters!

Good Morning All,

Our thanks to all veterans.

Today I visit Dad, and might take him to our local hamburger place where they honor veterans. I’m sure he will be one of few from WWII. Not sure if there will be a conflict with the Veterans Day program they produce in his community.

We were in Geiranger on Prinsendam on her fairwell cruise in 2019.

Love origami. We attended an exhibition at the Japanese Museum in LA some 10 years ago and I learned to fold penguins in time for my Antarctica cruise. I had lots of fun folding them and leaving them for others. And flocking the ship.😇 A few years later, a colleague took the same cruise and a coworker and I folded a bunch, broke into her office and flocked it.

Flocking Veendam on a formal night.

Have a great day everyone!

I am sorry to intrude on the group but your penguins are amazing. Would you care to share the instructions or point me to where I might find them?

Thanks. I’m not finding the original instructions, but this one is another set for the SAME one. I’ll see if I can find the originals.

You need black and white origami paper. I ended up with several sizes. Also altered the pattern a bit and folded invitations to a CC luncheon from black cardstock, I think 10x10. I traced a “ belly” and printed the outline on white cardstock, along with the places to add the information on when the event was. This got glued to the black body, and made a stiff bird. I hung these on CC members cabin doors. They were a hit, even with my cabin stewards.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

@grapau27, Thanks for the lovely pictures of Mijas. I had the chance to visit there on 2 cruises.
I have a picture somewhere of myself sitting on the donkey statue.   I remember the chocolate shop and all the leather goods.
      Safe travels home.

Thank you.

Graham.
