Got Covid on Celebrity Summit. Here's the approximate timeline, for anyone interested.

Just add to the timeline, today was my first day testing negative. I have quarantined for roughly two weeks, so I should now be good to re-join society.

I think one question that we will all be asking ourselves is, if Covid continues to get more and more mild, and as mentioned this was no more severe than a mild cold, then does a day come where we stop all of this testing and quarantining? I would suggest that that answer is yes, although we are obviously not there yet. But we may be closer than people think.

I would contend that if there were adequate supplies of therapeutics to treat the current level of illness created by the majority of Omicron infections the CDC would not be as worried about it as it is but Omicron basically blew the system that was set up out of the water.   Prior vaccines and therapeutics had little use against it so we were virtually back to square one.

Everyone I know with Omicron had very mild "cold or flu-like symptoms".  Captain Gus announced on the Summit that each of the few who tested positive onboard "fortunately had mild cold-like or flu-like symptoms".

I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but certainly mild symptoms are good news.

I just checked my iPhone and I have it enabled.   One thing I noticed is that it says

Active Region -  California Department of Public Health

It has the option to add another region.   Do you have to activate a different region - e.g. Florida

I tried adding Florida, I guess I should have known, it responded   "Exposure Notifications are not Currently Available - Exposure Notifications have not been turned on for your region by your public health Authority"

Does this mean the OP had to be in close contact with a person from California?

I think you only do one at a time.  If you enable CA, for example, I think it works fine even if you are well away from CA, such as overseas.  It's just that CA Health becomes the notifying/reporting agency.

Try putting in a state that does have contact tracing like Massachusetts.

I added Massachusetts - no problem except it then shows Massachusetts as my active region so manually had to delete the region to get California back.

That's what I was curious about.   I was wondering since the OP thinks he was exposed while on the ship.   My logic would be if a person who tested positive from Florida doesn't have the capability to track  the person would have to be from a State or Country that has it enabled.

Mine shows no exposures in the history log even though I know I was exposed to 2 people last week who use iPhones.   I guess they don't have it turned on or didn't self report.

It one point, my exposure log showed 17 exposures via "matched key count".  However, there was only 1 notification that met the criteria of being within 6 feet of someone who tested positive for 15 minutes or more.  Current "matched key count" stands at 9 with the last (and only) notification from the exposure received apparently on Summit.

While these apps are imperfect, I do think they are generally beneficial.

Thanks for giving it a try.  My recollection is this tracing was very useful tracking down people across the country  who were in Provincetown for the big Delta outbreak last July 4th.

You mean like most of Europe has done for the last 40 years... 😀 Cameras, not cell phones.

Sad thing is I've had my app enabled for months, and totally forgot when I actually tested positive in August. I didn't get any alerts, either. The apps require you to remember it's there and enter your own status.

I didn't realize it was that easy to pick up covid. I'm on the Edge January 30th  and will be wearing an N95 mask indoors and don't plan on conversion with anyone unless outside. How does that work in the MDR when food orders are taken? Could I pick up from wait staff when being served?

We are second of 2 cruises starting 1/4. We have just asked to be seated away from others.  So far so good.  Otherwise we just wear our masks around others. (Kn95 mask) in casino and in ports.  Have worn n95 in taxi’s. Passed debarq Covid test between ships.  Halfway thru 7 day Apex.  Feel pretty good that we haven’t been exposed.  But guess time will tell.

We’ve had cameras in areas here…and I know they are always watching..my comment was more tongue in cheek…

Is everyone making the assumption that the NEXT variant is going to be milder, because I don't know that I have seen anyone with an Epidemiology say that? Just because Omicron appears to have been milder for most, but not all cases, than Delta, is that reason to believe that future variants are going to be as well? Not to be argumentative, but I don't know that I have read that, so I'm not sure it is safe to operate under that assumption.

No, but I’m hopeful in the long term. I just don’t consider it a safe assumption. And now staying away from the red banner…

Not sure why you thought it would be removed.

You didn't denigrate anyone and you have a valid point.

I, like the last two posters , think we are just all tired after the last two years and are trying to be optimistic.

I must live a very social distanced life as I have not shown any exposures via key count or close contact.

I think you are right.    I've been working on a home reservation with my Son's Father in Law and he tested positive as well as two of his other daughters.   All have iPhones but I don't think I have been in the same room and I don't believe they reported either.

I am amazed that the California COVID tracking ap tracked your exposure on a cruise ship!!   That is a very sensitive application or were you exposed by another California resident on the ship?

I don't think it told him who or where he was exposed.   Possibly on the plane with another California resident.    I really haven't figured out yet how it works if two people are from different states or haven't selected the new reporting area.

It seems to be very easily done, I think my wife and I both caught it down on Hiway 61. Both double vaxxed and boosted with Moderna.
