Question re Rotterdam promenade deck

As Jim wrote, you can, but it gets quite narrow around the MDR. I recall taking a photo of a crew member rolling a bucket with a mop in hand in that area, and there was absolutely no extra deck room on either side of him.

Here's a photo of the narrowest part near the MDR's kitchen:

Would appreciate if anybody could post picture of wider/widest part of promenade deck.

Hear is a photo of the widest part of the Promenade Deck on Nieuw Statendam that should be identical to Rotterdam.

Here are some photos of the Nieuw Statendam's promenade.  It should be identical on the Rotterdam.  The last photo is from the Rotterdam.

These were pulled from cruisedeckplan.com.  Just pick a cruise line, pick a ship, pick a deck, and there are lots of submitted photos you can click on tiny camera icons to see.

I had no issue with walking the deck on the N. S.  In fact I was just about the only one on it at whatever time I decided to do my walk. It was me and some crew usually painting the hand rails.  I liked to walk here vs the upstairs track because it was shaded.

A good wide walkable promenade deck with teak loungers is the thing that i miss the most on newer ships.  What a pity that they have been relegated to an afterthought.  It is/was your one chance to get some exercise, relax, read, outside, but covered/shaded very near the ocean without having piped in music, people splashing in pools or  high up looking through often dirty plexiglass.

The newer ships are so close to floating malls that they have lost touch with the fact that they are ships sailing on the ocean and that being near to the ocean is an integral part of the cruise experience.

I agree with missing the real promenade deck. Miss the deck chairs, spending an afternoon or morning reading, looking out at the horizon watching the ocean as the world goes by. I guess that's the difference between an ocean liner & a cruise ship.

Couldn't have said it any better.

Dockman,

So true. I grew up on the ocean and now live in the middle of the country ,far from the sea. I loved sitting in a deck chair, just watching the waves and water, for some of your very same reasons. I am on the sea, and the sea is what I want to look at, and feel the motion .There are casino's quite near me , and shopping centers galore. I could stay home and sunbathe, or swim in a pool....plus I don't need to be entertained.

I'm from the generation that learned to entertain themselves. (or as my children say "You're old !) Have a good day and enjoy the fact that now, finally,  we can go on a ship again....it may not be perfect but they are still afloat !

When cruising, I am an early riser (7 AM). I go exercise for 30-60 minutes while my early-riser wife showers and dresses. If the weather is nice (above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, I like walking three or four laps around the Promenade. If it is hot (80 plus) or cold, it is the recumbent bikes in the gym (4-4.5 miles in 30 minutes). Did that on the Rotterdam 12/01/21 for 11 nights and LOST two pounds!

Very industrial feel to this new promenade!

Nothing to like about it at all!!

It shouldn't even be called the promenade deck anymore, it's now the lifeboat loading deck.

I still like it better than walking around the top of the ship.

Ditto, except now HAL would charge to rent those deck chairs since it would be an ocean view 😀

missing those wooden loungers...

I have one of those 'steamer loungers' - sent it up to my son's house when I bought new porch furniture.  It's the first place I go to when I visit fairly frequently - that is after I give my hugs and kisses.
