Don’t believe Princess website

Currently on Sky Princess

UK Princess protocols clearly state no masks required, recommended but not required.

Boarded Monday, must wear masks. Now the ridiculous ‘sip and cover’ (although mainly being ignored) in all bars.

Totally not what we were expecting. Very disappointing. Can’t understand why website (updated on 31 March) still saying no masks but reality totally different.

Your choice to be sure. But requiring stricter safety precautions won’t drive away as many people as employing less safety precautions will.

It's specific to the ship, because there was a massive COVID outbreak on the previous cruise

Yes I understand that, but all those passengers aren’t on the ship any more and the ship has had a deep clean so why?

My guess is they don’t want it to happen again?

Well if you read the other posts you will see there has been an increase of onboard cases since the mask policy was dropped on several ships.  Not sure, even as much as I hate to wear the mask, that it doesn't help in some way.  We just returned from a 10-day partial Panama transit and the mask policy was pretty much non-existent the entire time.  My husband tested positive the day after we arrived back home after the cruise, and I also tested positive 4 days later.  We pretty much stayed to ourselves and didn't socialize as we normally do, spent a lot of time on our balcony and avoided really crowded areas.  Didn't really help, lol.  We are both fine with minimum issues concerning the Covid itself,  just the self-quarantine after arriving home.  Those annoying masks might be what keeps you from contracting the illness. 🤔

Having seen an increase in onboard cases since the removal of masks required, I assume  that is the “May be required in select venues or situations”

pax who were positive were disembarked but not the crew,  with such high rates of infection currently in the UK,  it’s inevitable some embarked whilst incubating  Covid even though they had a negative test.

Back to your original Post and advice to not Believe the website, why?The website actually says

Masks are recommended, but not required, in the majority of venues, though they may be required in select venues or situations. This will be clearly designated through signage and onboard announcements

Just an update. Cruise ships have recently reinstated mask requirements because of outbreaks.

Of the ten HAL and Princess ships (passenger carrying) listed with the CDC, only the Discovery Princess is green. Seven ships are orange (CDC investigating).

Sorry. I meant temporary emergency. And as the OP has reported, mask requirement now in more indoor venues.

Some are still on the ship, but in quarantine, because they let the Back to Backers stay if they wish to.   So that means anyone in the cabin with the positive tester can still roam the ship for the next cruise.  Although the negative person must only eat meals in his or her cabin & test everyday for 5 days.

Completely incorrect post.

We were supposed to be on the Caribbean Princess this Sunday San Francisco to Vancouver and just got an emergency notification the cruise is “cancelled to allow additional time for the ship's extensive scheduled dry-dock”.   Glad we hadn’t left home yet.  Can’t help but wonder if there are many Covid cases onboard and they decided to just cancel the cruise.

Actually, this post is true.  Both examples are from three Ruby Princess cruises in February and March.

Just finished 7 nights on the Regal

Mask policy in the casino changed to Sip and Cover for the last 2 nights and enforced, previously just recommended

Rest of the ship appears to be still discretionary

We've been on the Enchanted since early March and they have changed their protocols a bit to try and curtail the virus problem happing on other ships.

They would prefer people wear masks indoors and outdoors as much as possible but inforcement is next to nothing.

The crowd this cruise seems to be more accepting but it's still not being pushed on everyone. From what I can see, it's still more of a suggestion rather then being mandatory.

the mask policy for UK departures was not released untill very recently.

We booked just before with hope they would not drop masks as it was already clear cases on ships were rising without masks and the dropping of other social measures.

Only people booked very late could have booked with mask optional as the expectation

Quite disappointed when they released mask optional as there are far to many covidiots about that have no concept of giving people space or appropriate times to mask up.

Often see people trying to get into lifts when already enough in, asking to sit down at occupied tables.

There are a significant number not masking up anywhere.

Far to soon to be expecting cruising is back to normal

Need to expect late changes to protocols for at least another year.

The "that's the last cruise with crowd" soon run out of cruise lines.

Those passengers are gone, but the crew is still there. Crew interacted with previous passengers. Crew interacts with current passengers. I would much rather them take precautions than not.

Princess' Contract of Passage can be found on their website for anyone to see before booking a cruise.

Per the Contract of Passage section 6 c (5) :

"You acknowledge that the Carrier’s COVID-19 Guest Protocols may or will include (but are not be limited to): .... (5) mandatory use by each Guest (except for children under the age of 2 years) of face masks in most locations outside of the Guest’s stateroom while on board, during embarkation, disembarkation and shore excursions; "

We don't often read through our contracts but we nonetheless accept them.  We shouldn't be too surprised that we were not aware of all of  its provisions.

Conditions may change rapidly and sometimes require sudden adaptation of protocols.

Contract here:  Princess Cruise Lines, Ltd Passage Contract - Princess Cruises
