Rare marielco Posted May 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2022 I am on Voyager in the Baltic. Today I asked our server if the Covid restriction on crew leaving the ship was still in force. She said yes it is. this seems very unfair. There are no longer any restrictions on passengers except the hand washing before entering the Windjammer. No restrictions in any of our ports of call. No masks needed on the shore excursions etc… so passengers can come and go unrestricted while crew are trapped on the ship for months.
Rare cruisestitch Posted May 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Crew on Explorer can apply for shore leave. I saw many get off in ARUBA.
sjb317 Posted May 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Crew on Allure told us they are allowed off in some ports. We saw crew coming back on the ship in San Juan last month, all were carrying shopping bags😂 Sherri🙂
Rare shof515 Posted May 13, 2022 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Some crew do need to remain on the ship and can not get off. this is due to port manning which is a legal requirement. there needs to be a certain % of crew onboard for this. maybe your server is in this group

RRTcruiser Posted May 13, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2022 We saw lots of Allure crew get off in Cozumel 2 days ago, seems they are trying to slowly ramp up the % that can leave the ship.
smokeybandit Posted May 13, 2022 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Crew are free to get off in their home port (at least in US-based cruises) but are only allowing a growing but limited number off in ports o call.
chengkp75 Posted May 13, 2022 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2022 In the Baltic, Finland does not allow any ship to have shore leave. Russia does not allow shore leave. Germany restricts shore leave if the ship has been to Sweden in the last 10 days.

That has always been the case, even when it was the only place they could disembark. We talked to our room stewards, they said that they never go ashore at CocoCay. The few hours that they get off between morning service and evening turn down is their rest time. And that they need sleep more than a walk on the beach.

The. cruises out of the USA it could be easing up but here in Europe it appears to be different and the restriction; is still in place.
DukeASUGirl Posted May 15, 2022 #13 Share Posted May 15, 2022 My daughter's skating coach is crew on the Harmony, and she has been posting her photos from when she goes ashore in the various Caribbean ports. I think they have to apply for shore leave, but as long as it doesn't conflict with their job duties it may be granted. I'm sure it differs between Caribbean and Europe, however. jerseyjjs Posted May 16, 2022 #14 Share Posted May 16, 2022 On today's Chris Wong YouTube page, he comments that after 1 week of shore leave, crew are not allowed off the ship port again. This is on the Ovation in Alaska.

GTO-Girl Posted May 16, 2022 #17 Share Posted May 16, 2022 Just got off the Mariner and our poor room steward had no clue that this might happen in the future. They have been told nothing!!!

Entertainment staff is not customer facing, so little chance of spreading anything. I'm sure they have different protocol than a room steward or waiter.
