Best way to get to Horseshoe Bay beach. I’ve heard there’s a taxi available for around $7pp. RC wants $39pp for their transfer. Big price difference. Any thoughts/experiences.

There are van/shuttles for $7pp that run from all day long.  They are also waiting in the parking lot at the beach to take you back to the ships.  We have used them many times.

We were less than thrilled with the beach -- long line to rent chairs/umbrella and -- the sand isn't really pink there. We've been to other places on the island with actual pink sand and less crowds. If you're going off on your own, you may consider looking elsewhere.

We have been to Bermuda several times on cruises and land vacations.   I agree, Horseshoe Bay Beach is very touristy.  We enjoy taking the local bus (get a day pass for bus or ferry at building on cruise dock) and you can go to any beach.      We have found many nice private spots near Horseshoe to be very nice and have some great memories on this island.

If you definitely want to go to Horseshoe Beach then take bus #7 from the royal navy dockyard to the beach.    We love their bus system.     taxi's are very expensive on the island so we avoid using them.

Just make sure you look into the public bus system before you decide to go to another beach as since covid, the buses were very limited, if they were running at all.  Public bus does not go down to the parking lot at Horseshoe Bay Beach, so you have to walk down the big hill to the beach and then back up to catch the bus, if it is running.  In recent years, they have installed a new sidewalk and staircase down the hill, but it is not good for anyone with mobility issues.

The biggest problem we have with horseshoe beach is the long steep hill you have to go down to get to the actual beach. Going back up to the main road is not at all fun after a day at the beach.

How pink the sand is in the eye of the beholder. The sand is pink. Sunlight and sun position makes a difference too. The beach is crowded near the amenities. Walk to the other end, walk east and it is less crowded. You can even walk off the Horseshoe past the rock outcrop and there are empty beaches. There are many other pink sand beaches with less crowds. The reason they have no crowds is that they have no chair rentals, no bathrooms.

If you take a $7 minibus or a taxi they drop off and pick up at the bottom of the hill. It is only the public buses that require a walk down or up the hill.

The $7 fare is for shared ride minibuses. They carry between 14 and 30 riders. Guess what……your $39 transfer is going to be on a shared minibus contracted by Royal. Royal makes out nicely. Take it on your own and $14 rt versus $39. Of course it might be worth it if you have OBC. A private taxi is $35 so even that will be a better deal than the transfer if you are at least 2.  If you are a family of 4 or more I advise a taxi over the minibus.

Mini bus  worked out great for us a few weeks ago. $7  each way pp. and we were on our time schedule.  

 

We  were dropped off in the parking lot and just had to walk down the ramp to the beach. Plenty of beach chairs, $10 each, but by the time we got there they had run out of umbrellas.  Plenty of mini buses waiting for us to make our return back to the ship. Fewer than 20 people in the bus each way   

 

Nice snack bar with drinks and food.  
 

Gorgeous beach with soft sand. We had a beautiful day there.

OP posted originally in the Royal Caribbean forum which is not where it belonged since it was specific to Bermuda.  A moderator must have moved it to the wrong forum. I expect it will be corrected soon. I have made a report it is in the wrong forum.

I briefly thought wow - a beach we’ve never been to all the times we’ve stayed or cruised! Then I read the posts…
