Rare BoozinCroozin Posted June 28, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Just saw this pop across. Supposedly it was the Carnival Magic forced to dock because of a massive fight onboard. https://pix11.com/news/local-news/manhattan/cruise-ship-makes-emergency-stop-off-of-manhattan-due-to-brawl/
pe4all Posted June 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Saw it on the news. We are boarding Magic today. However, that is their regular docking berth when in NY. Waiting for more details.
Bostwick girl Posted June 28, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2022 I’ve been on 39 Carnival cruises and had no idea the nightclubs were still open at 5:20 am! Add alcohol and that’s asking for trouble, Carnival or any cruise line!

Those were mostly Elation and Triumph out of New Orleans in the 2014-2017 timeframe. Edited June 28, 2022 by Saint Greg

Though when I closed down the casino I had a couple times where we had a full table of blackjack going for hours and they shut us down around 2am.
Pyxie Posted June 28, 2022 #7 Share Posted June 28, 2022 (edited) They weren't forced to dock. They were already planning to dock that day and the police just met them at the pier. Maybe they had to dock at a different pier though. It's not incredibly clear to me and I've never sailed out of NY. KnicksChick Posted June 28, 2022 #8 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Wow I was on the June 16 cruise and the nightclub was packed. But always a good vibe.
cmukid87 Posted June 28, 2022 #9 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Why on earth are people out at 3-4am.....on debarkation day? Stupid people play stupid games and win stupid prizes. It's those people that give cruising and specifically Carnival cruisers a bad name. Disgusting. 8 3
Yankeegirl49 Posted June 28, 2022 #10 Share Posted June 28, 2022 I got off the Magic this morning, as stated above, we weren't forced to make an unexpected stop, we just docked a little earlier than usual. I didnt see or hear anything but I am not surprised this happened. Carnival staff was wonderful, overall the cruise was great...BUT...many of my fellow passengers can use a lesson in common courtesy. There was lots of entitlement, lots of people who thought they didnt have to wait in line, lots of people who thought they were the only ones on the cruise and lots of people who thought rules didn't apply to them. Still had a wonderful time and a great vacation, but the rudeness was out of control. I felt bad for security who had a busy week. 9

I was gonna say something snarky like "hmm, imagine that, for a cruise out of NY/NJ" (NYC and Jersey do have a self-promoted image of being "gruff", shall we say), but sadly, it appears that rude people are everywhere. It doesn't help that there are current events happening that are putting a lot of folks on edge more than usual. I know I've been a bit off-put recently. 2

I am a lifelong New Yorker and I have never seen the rudeness en masse like it was on this cruise. "Gruff" is one thing, but some of what I observed went way past gruff and way past the typical new York attitude.
luc122 Posted June 28, 2022 #13 Share Posted June 28, 2022 We don’t go to the nightclub, other than maybe to have a drink just to check it out, but early @10-11. is there any security posted inside as a usual thing? It would seem prudent as the night goes on to preempt any minor ego driven spats from getting out if control.
Can I Cruise Posted June 28, 2022 #14 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Copy/pasted from a cruise group: Just got off the Magic in New York. It was a great cruise! We even managed to get an NYPD and US Coast Guard escort to the dock because a couple of jerks started a fight that turned into a 60 person brawl. Its all over the news. It is my inderstanding that the people involved had tried to start fight all week and that a couple of shows had to move venues because of it. Why weren’t these people secured in the ship’s brig. This is not the first brawl on a Carnival cruise. They are going to have to deal with this swiftly and severely.

Typically security is outside of the venue to verify people are old enough to go in.
Rare BlerkOne Posted June 28, 2022 #16 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Carnival disputes they were "forced" "The NYPD initially described the incident as an emergency docking, but Carnival said in a statement that the stop was scheduled all along." I am confused by the news headlines like this. June 28 was the originally debarkation for the June 20 cruise that i was just on. and also June 28 is the next cruise for the magic. nothing was forced If anything, maybe the "forced" thing could be that we started docking like at around 6am instead of the traditional 7ish

Your USCG escort was not due to the brawl, it is a random escort done routinely for cruise ships. The USCG would have no jurisdiction over a fight on the ship, unless a US citizen called them or local LEO to swear out a claim, and even then, nothing would be done without the Captain's approval for LEO to board and make arrests, except to investigate the incident afterwards. 5
ladychater Posted June 28, 2022 #22 Share Posted June 28, 2022 I am a Carnival cruiser, but I have to say that the worst cruise, people-wise, that I ever went on was a Carnival Caribbean cruise out of New York. We called it the "rainbow coalition of trash" cruise. Name any age group, race, class, ethnicity, profession, religion, etc., they each sent their most loathsome members and loaded them on that boat (kind of a reverse Noah's ark!). From moment one, there was a large family pitching a fit in the lido swearing that their bag had been stolen, the one with EVERY MEMBER'S wallet and passport in it, and what was Carnival going to do about it (I'm assuming they were scamming to get a free cruise). People were rude, cut lines, loud, had no social graces, no decorum, there were a lot of almost-fights breaking out. It was vile. I'm a New Yorker, and I hate to say bad things about my town - I'm just hoping they were all out-of-towners! Meanwhile, I've been on 2 New York to Canada Carnival cruises, and the clientele was LOVELY. 7
jetsfan58 Posted June 28, 2022 #23 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Our society is really trending wayward these days! There is never an excuse for disorderly conduct; no matter what the venue. What examples are we setting for our children and grandchildren? We are much better as a society and hopefully cooler heads will prevail. My Carnival Cruise experience will never be distorted by those who did not learn manners at home.

Janet&Carl Posted June 29, 2022 #25 Share Posted June 29, 2022 "Entitled" New Yorkers hey ! not all but enough to spoil a cruise. Cruised many times and the only one I've said never again to was one out of NYC.
