NY Cruise Forced to Dock Because of Fight

Your USCG escort was not due to the brawl, it is a random escort done routinely for cruise ships.  The USCG would have no jurisdiction over a fight on the ship, unless a US citizen called them or local LEO to swear out a claim, and even then, nothing would be done without the Captain's approval for LEO to board and make arrests, except to investigate the incident afterwards.

Someone asked about flying into foreign ports for cruises and a lot of folks weren't interested. This is precisely why. No thanks, I'm only looking to cruise from a US port and back to a US port. Imagine the jurisdictional hurdles from other countries and all the delays, not to mention, many have weak protection policies for even their own citizens. Plus, the angels in the sky are usually within range (God bless the US Coast Guard!) if the worst case happens and the gun boat escorts make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. 😁🇺🇸

Just saw this pop across. Supposedly it was the Carnival Magic forced to dock because of a massive fight onboard.

I just got off the Magic today!  As a couple other people said, the headline was a little deceptive.  Today was our scheduled debarkation date and we were at the regular pier where we were supposed to be (88).  Also, early last evening the captain had announced an estimated arrival time of 6:00 am in New York so I’m not sure that we even docked earlier than expected.

Truthfully I didn’t even know anything had happened until we got off the ship and I saw it on social media.  I did notice a lot of coast guard people on board as we walked through the lobby, but that was it.

I am a Carnival cruiser, but I have to say that the worst cruise, people-wise, that I ever went on was a Carnival Caribbean cruise out of New York.  We called it the "rainbow coalition of trash" cruise.

I've taken Carnival and NCL out of Manhattan, it's definitely a less genteel crowd than you get when you sail out of Florida.  Sailed Carnival out of Long Beach, nothing like that, even on the party weekend cruises.  But I have come to expect the stereotype from Manhattan.

This can't be true. Social media always tells me New York people are so considerate of others. Meanwhile, Florida people are deplorables.

Yeah Carnival really needs to nip this in the bud.

crowd size and if they're still buying drinks seems to influence closing time...similar to the table games in the casino...but past 5am seems a bit extreme, maybe people were still lingering in lounge when things went south

This is 100% incorrect information. The disco was not open at 5:30am nor did this take place at 5:30am. Completely wrong.

Why on earth are people out at 3-4am.....on debarkation day?  Stupid people play stupid games and win stupid prizes.  It's those people that give cruising and specifically Carnival cruisers a bad name.  Disgusting.

I have no idea but no matter what deck I choose for my cabin, they always have a cabin nearby. Screaming down the hall at each other in the middle of the night as if they are the only ones on board at 2, 3, 4 am.

Well this is true; however, in this case, I think genteel is being kindly used in place of senior.

There's social media channels for everyone. Just pick one that agrees with you.

I am a lifelong New Yorker and I have never seen the rudeness en masse like it was on this cruise. "Gruff" is one thing, but some of what I observed went way past gruff and way past the typical new York attitude.

On our 2 cruises out of New York, we encountered the most insanely rude, entitled people.  It was ridiculous.  Rude people are everywhere, but WOW!

We were plan to tour NYC in some time and maybe take a cruise from there,  but now I read this and maybe not.  Is it just this brand that has this trouble or not?  Does this coast guard always get there when requested quickly?

The Carnival Magic cruise ship requested assistance from the Coast Guard after 40 to 60 passengers were involved in a brawl on the dance floor of the ship’s nightclub at around 5:20 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

A Coast Guard boat was dispatched to escort the cruise ship to its home dock in Manhattan, where members of the NYPD were on hand as the ship docked, according to WNBC.

try going on a HAL ship.   I would not expect to hear this very often.

No, but on HAL or Princess, your chances of having to dock for a medical event are probably double or triple...

MMMHMMMM...Well there is clear video of all these individuals that took part in this. So, being that Carnival has names, pictures, and all personal information, for everyone on the ship, it's just a matter of going through and looking for these people, which I am sure is already in the process of being done.

This type of behavior is unacceptable and uncalled-for no matter what the circumstances are. There is zero excuse and zero tolerance for this. There should be a permanent ban handed down for the individuals who took part in this.

In a world where cameras are everywhere, people gotta be a lot smarter with their actions.

I see why they have to call for the coast guard.  Looks like not enough security on the ships.

I see one security guy at the back that could do nothing.  What a disgusting display and I assume all week the same crowd made trouble that exploded on the last night.  No thanks. Carnival not for me.

I’ve been on 39 Carnival cruises and had no idea the nightclubs were still open at 5:20 am!  Add alcohol and that’s asking for trouble, Carnival or any cruise line!

Apparently my mom was right…nothing good happens after 2 am!
