Southampton hotel

Recommended Posts

Is it just for one night. Personally I would book the Premier Inn at Westquay and then book a taxi. it would be about £8 each way to the port. They are fine for the night and serve a good breakfast . Alternatively Elizabeth House do a shuttle but a little out of the centre, Holiday Inn, Hilton at Ageas Bowl, Harbour house hotel - dependant on budget as expensive !

We stayed at Leonardo and caught a taxi to the dock. A very short ride and I'm not sure if any hotels have shuttles. The hotel was good and served a nice breakfast. We prefer to eat outside the hotel for dinner and there are plenty of eateries within a close walk. It is Southampton by the way.

You can go to the Asda supermarket or the Waitrose in John Lewis to buy wine. The Premier Inn, Novotel, Ibis, Holiday Inn, Travelodge, Mercure and any of the town centre hotels are in walking distance of both of these and the cruise terminal. Central Southampton is compact and easy to navigate so I wouldn't worry about which you stay at providing you are able to walk without difficulties.

We've stayed there twice and would again.  It is in a great location for picking up any last minute items including wine at the shopping mall and is a nice area to walk around with an extensive nearby park.

Premier Inn at westcay.  Easy walk to restaurants for dinner.  Small quick type mart next door.  And taxi foe 8 to 10 pounds to the port.

Also stayed at the Premier Inn and agree it's a great location...  Across the street from the mall.

Clean, Basic, nice restaurant.   One thing I found strange.   They don't supply wash cloths in the rooms when we were there.    Walking over to the mall to buy one.   Easy taxi ride to port.

Wash cloths are not common anywhere in Europe. You might find them in fancy hotels, but inexpensive hotels don't usually (or didn't the last time I was in Europe).

Can anyone recommend a hotel in south hampton cruise port that has a shuttle to the ocean cruise  terminal.?

Save a couple of strikes on your keyboard - it's Southampton, not South Hampton 😉

I can think of a couple of city centre hotels which provide transfer to cruise terminals, but not worth mentioning because they simply call a taxi, which saves you just £5 to £10.

Some hotels on the city boundary (eg the Doubletree at Chilworth) or outside the city offer cruise transfers, but they're poorly located for local amenities.

The hotels on the thumbnail map at the bottom of the linked page are all city centre, none is more than a £10 taxi ride to any cruise terminal.

https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_accommodation.htm

Most of the hotels listed are fairly bland but perfectly acceptable modern national or international brands, quirkier ones are the Pig in the Wall, Ennios, and Mercure Dolphin (plus White Star Rooms, which isn't shown).

Some are more conveniently-located than others.

And some are better than others, but differences are clear from the prices and I don't think that any are to be avoided.

To those wine outlets listed by Polk01 add Marks & Spencer in West Quay Mall (same mall as John Lewis / Waitrose)  and the Co-op (called "Welcome") right by Premier Inn West Quay and Moxy's.

All are grocery stores with wine aisles, Waitrose & M & S for the better wines, ASDA for the better prices and a wider range.

Or if you're serious about wines, Majestic Wines (on Western Esplanade opposite the train station and just 5 minutes from West Quay) is a specialist with a huge range and knowledgeable staff.

I don’t think I can ever remember seeing facecloths in a hotel. I usually just take one with me and then throw it away to save carrying a wet cloth about.

Not as strange as when I found hotel rooms which don’t contain kettles 😂

I can recommend the Harbour Hotel. It's almost on top of the Ocean Cruise Terminal and the QEII Terminal, and they will transfer you to the terminal free of charge. It's also a very nice hotel with two fantastic restaurants and a bar on the 6th floor with wonderful views of the Solent and the Ocean Terminal.

For clarity, this is the Southampton Harbour Hotel

https://www.harbourhotels.co.uk/southampton

The only major 5* hotel in the city (others in the countryside around).

Has the footprint of a cruise ship,  high standards but by far the most expensive hotel in the city (best my wallet could afford was a sunday roast lunch, which was excellent).

Not to be confused with what until a few years ago was called the Grand Harbour Hotel (now Leonardo Royal Grand Harbour) which is close to City cruise terminal & the city centre. Also has panoramic views over Southampton Water.

Not as good, not as expensive.

https://www.jurysinns.com/hotels/southampton/leonardo-grand-harbour

(an added confusion - it's in the Jury's Inn Group, but the "Jury's Inn" is a different Southampton hotel, in the city centre but not convenient for cruisers.)

Indeed. Certainly not to be confused with the former Grand Harbour, and it is indeed the only 5* hotel in Southampton.  It's superb and the food is wonderful.  We are staying there again before we join Sky Princess in September.
