Local foods to try on a C/NE cruise?

Lobster seems to be the stereotype. (None for me, thanks.)

What are some local favorites that we might consider trying while in our ports?

Blueberry pie in Bar Harbor.

Beaver tails in Halifax.

Holy Donuts in Portland.

Dried seaweed (name?) in Saint John, sold in the city market.

Suggestions, please!

Yes to all of those! (Order the pie warm.)  Beavertails also in other places besides Halifax, have them wherever you can find them.

I agree with the suggestion above about poutine.  It was surprisingly good.

Enjoy your trip!

Blueberry anything in Maine.  Handpies at the farmers market, gelato at the food truck on the Easter Promenade or gelato places in the old port or muffins at lots of bakeries.  When they ask if you want your muffin griddled or grilled, say yes.  Also, peaches are fabulous in Maine, though the season seems to be almost gone.

I've seen stands (kiosks) along the boardwalk.

Thanks, our last time there we did a private tour and didn't have time to walk the port boardwalk so this next visit that's all we have planned.

Three years ago (just before the pandemic) and hopefully still now, there was an area along the boardwalk [towards the Marine Museum if you are walking from the ship] with a number of food shacks/stands, one of them being BeaverTails.

Still there, I had one there in June. And if you're going to St John  , there's a container village as soon as you get off the ship. One of the vendors there sells them as well.

"Container Village"...We've been there as we exited and entered the ship, but had no idea it had a name. To me it was just a terminal area set up for cruise ships. Lot's of vendor's.

I believe you are referring to the tented area just beyond the terminal.  The container village is new this year.

I had delicious scallops at Salty's in Halifax a couple of weeks ago. They were part of this seafood platter, but you could order them on their own.

I’m happy to hear that you liked Salty’s.  There was talk about it on another thread that said it wasn’t good anymore and the food was plain. I’ve been trying to decide where to eat in Halifax and I LOVE seafood!!
