When did Pinnacle Grill start charging for appetizer?

My point was that not everyone can afford to do what you do.  I'd be in gambler's rehab if that were the case in my life. Way over my head.  But, have fun if that's fun for you.

I understand that. I have been very fortunate. I got aggravated when my supposed "free cruises" were brought up. We have taken pax with us to a cabana including the butler service in HMC that could not afford that experience a few times. If you could private message on here there are members who I would love to bring along on a cruise that could have my wife's cabin offer.

Doesn't matter really. PG menu is the same throughout the fleet.

It DOES matter as most ships are not charging it from what I can see.  I’ve checked my PG menu on the Navigator app and there is no $7 charge listed for an additional appetizer.

Honestly, I’ve been known to have appetizers and skip the main course on the odd occasion.  😉

My "Free" cruises usually result in a $20,000 to $25,000 statement at the end of the cruise. So I really get tired of hearing how free they are. That has been my point all along. Nothing is free. I will be more than happy to pay for your cruise if you spend the amount of time in the casino gambling at the rate I do. You play $25 a spin on the slot machine and $100 a hand at the blackjack table for hours on end. At the end of the cruise let's see whose cruise wound up costing more.
This is exactly how Vegas works. The bigger players are comped for their rooms, meals, massages, shows and whatever else they want.

🙄

'Mediocrity' is of course a totally subjective term when used in describing one's personal experience... especially with food and food quality.

Yes, of course it is.  Seems there is a lot of commonality here.  Some people are happy to eat beans and wieners and think that is gourmet.  Others are more accomplished and expect more when paying an up charge.

Well, if you get aggravated, then don't talk about your casino cruise deals. Nice of you to offer your wife's cabin offer....but you can't private message members here. If you are serious, that is.

The standing joke with my PCC is that my wife can use her cabin to bring more clothes. To me it seems quite the waste. No reason to let it go to waste.

Of course.  I saw a woman bring no less than 7 suitcases on a 2 week caribbean cruise.  I'm a carry on gal myself. But, back to the riveting topic at hand.

It does seem to matter, as although the menu is the same, the charging basis is different.

This Westerdam upcharge is similar to its experiment of allowing an upcharge for drinks exceeding the $11 Signature Beverage Package limit instead of charging full drink cost.  Looks like HAL is testing the waters on passenger acceptance of that option as well as the upcharge on extra Pinnacle Grill starters.

It would be interesting to hear if there is an upcharge for additional starters in the Westerdam's MDR, Tamarind, or Canelleto's restaurants too.

If they start charging for additional starters in the MDR, I'm heading to the Lido where i can accumulate many plates of food without guilt or extra charge.

I don’t think they will do that.  For a time period they charged for additional entrees in the mdr on a couple ships.  That went down in flames but apparently the burn healed and hal is ready to get burnt again.

There will be an up charge for additional plates but a 50% discount if you wash the dishes 😀

And it also seems quality depends on ship & chef.

That's the truth @canadianbear!  I had the most wonderful meal at Rudy's pop up on Noordam and the most horrendous meal I've EVER had on a ship at Rudy's on Oosterdam!!  (That was the Mexican Riviera trip that I met you and Mr. Bear at the turn around day immigration inspection on board in San Diego December 2019.  That was my last cruise....)

We’ve had the same experience on different ships.

Yes, I remember that day chatting with you at turn around day.  Was our last 2 week cruise as well.  Still not ready to hop on a ship but I sure miss it.

Sorry Canada rocks.. Yes this screen shot was from the Westerdam navigator app... And yes the waiter did mention at that time of ordering that there would be a $7 charge for each additional app, wife had bacon and crab cakes I had crab cakes and steak tartare... We were charged $16.52 for both extra apps and the service charge...

the next night we went to Rudys with No upcharges unless you want multiple entrees. We also went to Canaletto with No upcharges for multiple apps... We really enjoyed it all except the surprise upcharges at Pinnacle.

I had gastric sleeve, so it’s better for me to order 2 appetizers and no entree.
