Creative on-board accounting......be careful`

Just off the sky princess and received my final shipboard  statements via email.  My wife and I were on the same booking in the same cabin (obviously).  Princess set up two folio accounts.  We received $75 non refundable OBC each for our booking and $100 stockholder non refundable OBC which was posted to my folio ...so we had $250 OBC.    Simplifying, for clarity   ...my wife purchased a pair of earings for $125 and we had no other charges.  The earings were posted to her account.

Reviewing the statements I received today.....My wife's folio showed the $75 non refundable OBC and an end of cruise a princess processing a charge to our VISA card of $50.  My account showed that since I had not spent anything, My $150+75 OBC's were non refundable and unspent.  Even though I had $225 OBC, some from jointly owned stock...since the $100 shareholder benefit was posted to my account, their accounting system ignored it when  closing my wife's folio.

Discussed with Princess today....and "finger's crossed", they said they would send it to accounting for review and it might take 4-6 weeks to resolve and refund the $50 that should not have been charged...it should have been covered by the OBC in my folio.  Had I not reviewed and called...I suspect that they just would have kept the $50.

That's a warning folks...Princess on board statements are not easy to read and you really need to check them closely.

Had something similar on one of our Princess cruises in the last year.  I "thought" I had linked our two folio's onto the same credit card, but in fact they had two cards on account, so we lost out on OBC and some discounts.  Princess never did anything with it.

Now we make it a point on the 2nd or 3rd day to be sure everything is linked as one account, to one charge card.

On my last cruise, I asked CS to print a statement for my cabin, both me and DH accounts I thought were linked before we boarded, using one credit card in my name.  CS told me I did not have access to my DH account, I told them the credit card covering both accounts was in my name and then they linked them.  No problem from that point on.  This thread makes me think I should check again after I board in 2 weeks.   For some reason things done on the app don't cross over to the on-board system entirely.

were your accounts linked to the same account and credit card?  If so then it should get rectified. If not then they treat each account seperately.

I make sure both are linked to one card and I have access to both accounts and have not had an issue.

Did have one cruise where even though one card was used, but initially the accounts were separate (I could not see charges to her account). Had to take the cc to the front desk in order to get them to link the accounts.

I had similar experience as OP last year, lost $70.  Didn't fight it.  This our latest cruise last month, we had 2 excursions cancelled near the end of the cruise and didn't spend the OBC that had been earmarked for them and credited back.  According to the summary, hopeful to get $350 back (balance was $351), but only my account ever has the refundable OBC ($350 max) and DW's side only has non-refundable OBC on it, so I hope we don't lose out again.  The summary "appears" to indicate we will receive $350 back.  Will see when it arrives.

We always use the same credit card for both cabins and all 4 people (husband and 2 kids)

If the “owner” of the credit cards checks the balance they get all 4 folios,

if someone else requests it, they only get theirs.
Luckily it’s always balanced out in the end.
Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I would not be pleased

Well maybe....

On one past cruise, the credit card was mine. I had set up the reservation and put myself first, DH second.

In the app, HE could see BOTH of our folios. I could only see mine....

I had that problem last 2 cruises where even though I set it all up,  and credit card was in my name, my husband could see both folios and I could not. . This last cruise it was reversed and I could see them instead. I have NO idea how their system sets this up!  But some of my  OBC was shifted to cover his casino charge during the final accounting.  We refuse to leave the ship with OBC. We will cash it out in the casino on the last day.

I didn't think I did anything extra to link the accounts, but when I check the 3 of us in, I always use my Visa for all of us.

This time we had $125 OBC, and I brought $400 worth of Princess gift cards with me, which I deposited to my account at Guest Services once the long lines have dissipated.

I checked the folios daily on the app.

The emailed folio for my son and DH has this line at the end of it:

Folio to Folio Transfer: MRS ITCHY&SCRATCHY

and their balances are transferred to my folio and then the OBC/Gift card credits are applied to them.

My folio says:

Folio to Folio Transfer: MR son of ITCHY&SCRATCHY

and

Folio to Folio Transfer: MR Husband of ITCHY&SCRATCHY

Had that happen once. Even though the card was yours sometimes when the info is passed to the ship (atleast earlier this year) there could be an issue (mine happened when they asked for card during check in). Easily corrected by just taking card to customer service.

OP, did you link your folios at any time before or during your cruise?

I was able to add my kids to account who were in a different cabin using my credit card.  I went to front desk to do this.

When I set up the charges, I set up the credit card on my account and from my account set up my wife as an authorized user, as opposed to going to her account and entering the same credit card.

I have always then gotten one statement with both our charges combined.

And.. that means that the authorized person only sees what they purchase,. I can see everything they purchase, as it’s really just my account. I like it that way. I sometimes might use my OBC at the casino…, or but him a gift, which he doesn’t need to know😉

Happened to me on the Sky a few weeks ago. I have a teenage daughter and didn't set up any credit card authorization for her. As such, our accounts weren't linked. We each had $200 in onboard credit, but I checked my onboard account (almost every day) and saw that they had tentatively charged my credit card for purchases that my daughter's credit would have covered. I immediately called Guest Services and they linked our account and reversed the credit card charge. You really have to stay on top of this during the cruise as Princess also charged us for two drinks although we had Princess Plus (those were reversed, too).

Because we have had similar problems in the past, as discussed here, we are now in the habit of stopping by the customer service counter when we first board to make sure our accounts have been properly linked. That isn't a real problem for us because we usually always have other issues to check on and resolve anyway. We have found it is easier that way to anticipate a potential problem early on rather than attempting to get Princess to after the fact.
