Important Sun Princess Guest Update

February 18 Departure Cancelled

February 13, 2024

Dear Valued Princess Guest,

We are writing to share an important update regarding the highly anticipated Sun Princess®

While we will be taking delivery of our new Sun Princess on February 14, the ship must remain alongside in the shipyard to allow for additional technical work to be completed and we regret to announce that we have no other option than to cancel the February 18 voyage. We share in your deep disappointment and frustration, and sincerely apologize for the extreme disruption the late cancellation of this voyage creates.

You will receive a full refund of the cruise fare along with any additional onboard services that were pre-purchased, as well as a 50% future cruise credit (FCC) that can be used on any future Princess voyage booked by November 30, 2024 and sailed by December 31, 2025. Rest assured, your booking will be automatically canceled, and you do not need to take any action to initiate the refund process. Your refund will be processed within three weeks and credited back to your original form of payment, and your FCC will be automatically added to your account.

If you have not started your travel yet, Princess will also provide you with up to $200 USD per person to cover change fees related to your flights.

Furthermore, we realize your travel plans may have you en route or already in Rome / Europe ahead of the voyage and that you will need to make alternative travel arrangements.

If you already have arrived in the region, prior to February 14 Princess will reimburse you for the entire cost of your roundtrip airfare.

Additionally, guests who booked Princess EZair and have already arrived in the region may call the following numbers for assisting rebooking their return flights.

Outside United States/Canada/United Kingdom 00-1-661- 284 - 4410
Outside Australia/New Zealand - + 61 2 8326 4400

These calls will be routed to the En-Route Assistance Line, which is staffed 24/7.

In addition, for guests already in the region, Princess will refund the cost of your hotel up to 450 euros per night covering the nights of Sunday, February 18 and Monday, February 19, and a per diem of 140 euros per person, per day to help cover meals and other expenses over that two-day period.

We kindly request that you provide any documentation of the fees by using this link: https://protect-usb.mimecast.com/s/3KbpC2GwnKC6w5RpHX7YIq?domain=princess.com

We understand the inconvenience and frustration that this news brings, and we do sincerely apologize for the disruption to your travel plans. We are committed to ensuring that your future experiences with Princess Cruises are nothing short of extraordinary.

We genuinely hope that you will consider joining us on another Sun Princess voyage, where we promise to provide you with an unforgettable journey filled with adventure, relaxation, and cherished memories.

Once again, we extend our deepest apologies for the inconvenience this situation has caused and thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,
John Padgett
President

2 very different notices which is very strange. One gives 50% towards another cruise and one gives $1000 OBC,

I have to conclude that Princess has some management issues. This late decision is going to cost PCL a small fortune...maybe it is all covered by insurance due to contractors being late etc. but so much money in refunds, they are also protecting agent commissions etc.

We are due to leave for Rome on Thursday and just got this notification. We just got our medallions so this news is shocking that it is so late. My wife is furious but is now working on plan B. Princess has really lost our respect with how this was handled. Someone should be fired over this PR disaster.

I completely understand the inherit risk of booking inaugural sailings.

But not one, TWO short notice cancellations.. ouch.

The tailend of this ship build clearly did not go even close to their scheduled timeline. Even if they had buffers built-in.

Can this get any more strange?  Whereas the initial cancellation seemed like it was known before they owned up to it this one seems hastily and sloppily communicated.  What a giant mess.  Feel so bad for everyone with plans to cruise in 5 days, and those who had lined up other plans after they disembarked.

Don's Vacation mentioned his concerns today.  The shipyard still had not turned the ship over to Princess as of today.  It was 1.5 sailing days from shipyard to Rome.  Even though all staff were board, he didn't think they had access for show rehearsals or any other prep work.

Not good for Princess.  They are burning the candle at both ends and is losing the battle.  I'm sure these "new" inaugural passengers are even more upset than the last cancelled group.

As an enrichment speaker scheduled for the 18 February cruise, I just got my airline tickets to Rome as well as hotel and shuttle reservations from Princess Corporate HQ. I am quite confident the Sun will sail on the 18th.

Looks like I will get the next the next couple of weeks off... who'd of thunk...😕

This is very disappointing and shows a lack of contingency planning by the shipyard, Princess and Carnival Corp.

My deepest empathy for all those affected, especially guests who are already enroute to or in Rome. Much harder to shift gears and make alternate arrangements once you have left home.

This is the result of some serious mis- management on the part of Princess.

I so agree with you on this.  I feel terrible for those who were to be on this sailing and there is just no excuse for such short notice.  This was handled so poorly.

Imagine getting off the plane to find out that your ship isn't going to sail.

This raises another question. What is wrong with the ship?

I was thinking this too.  If it was something minor they could probably just fix it during the initial sailing.  Must be something major if they are cancelling this so close to embarkation.  I hope they do a quick assessment and at least give passengers on future cruises a head-up if they have any inkling that the fix won't happen in time for the next sailing.  This last minute notice stuff has to stop.
