WHAT HAPPENED TO US ON THE REGAL PRINCESS AT CHRISTMAS - HEART BREAKING!

Now, here is where I will play Devil's advocate. If these are new cruisers (or at least new to Princess) who knew nothing about Princess prizes and the son is 18 (old enough to play but young enough to have little common sense/know better) and they went to the event based on the call they had won something at a prize event, then I see how it would be a disappointment.

The "young man" (not a child) knew that he had entered the contest but then withdrew, so when the call was received he knew that he had entered, but withdrew and received his entry fee back.  Therefore, he was not a participant in this contest!  How simple it would have been for this "young man" or one of his parents to have reached back out to the caller to let them know their son was not eligible for any prize and the story would have ended there.  Instead, they chose to go to the drawing and take whatever prize was to be given, knowing, the son was not a legal contestant.

When the young man withdrew his name and received his entry fee back, his name should have been removed for the listing, which would have prevented the Princess rep from calling him.  Human error.  Princess made up for that human error by providing OBC and Specialty Dinning for the entire group.  The End!

I would assume they must have had SOME knowledge of it if the son signed up and then withdrew? Should Princess have checked eligibility BEFORE calling them and putting the name on the check? Absolutely they should have. But, sometimes things happen and mistakes are made.

...which is pretty much exactly what I said?

he doesn't look like a child, and he definitely doesn't look young enough to appreciate "a good sport award" instead of a $100.

For example, mine is an 11 year old actual child. He cannot buy lottery tickets or grow a beard... We don't let him out of our sight on a cruise. But he is old enough to understand that if he doesn't buy a lottery ticket, he cannot win the main prize or really any prize.

Princess offered $100 OBC - that's super generous, considering the circumstances.

It looks  like an entertainment department member.

is he now?

Is that a real tattoo on his arm? If he is old enough to get a real tattoo, he is old enough to apply critical thinking.

I suspect you are old enough adequate comprehension skills as are others here who have implied something that was not stated by the original poster.  That is a photograph of the check being held by a crew member.

I have never seen an entertainment staff/crew member with a name tag on.

Or not in uniform.  This is NOT a Princess crew or staff member.

End of thread.  I don't think OP will ever return to this thread for clarifications.

"Child" was wrong to enter, remove, and expect to claim prize.

Parents should have taken generous OBC offer and dine at a Specialty Restaurant on the house.

99% of posters "got it".

They were posting a photograph of the check.

Why would they not have said “This is the check being held by a crew member”just to clarify this was not their son.  The son had to be at least 18 years old to get in the casino and purchase the ticket in the first place.  This photo is a young man at least 18 years old.  Even if this is not their son in the photo, it doesn’t change anything.

I have seen entertainment members in the buffet late at night with no name tag or uniform on. I recognized them from the musical they performed in.

Not at 8F sports or 17F school (plays basketball at school)

Thankfully "participation medals" are a thing of the past. As kids learn to deal with disappointment they become more resilient

I'm a teacher and I think you said it best in your last line that disappointment will help make you become more resilient. I teach elementary school and at the end of the year these kids all think they get a reading a medal for reading a certain amount of books. I refuse to give kids participation or a medal if it's not earned. I explain to him the things are earned and then when they are earned you are rewarded the better yet you will also gain a sense of pride for all the hard work you've accomplished. To reward you for something you didn't do is teaching someone they can get away with anything and everything. They need to know the difference.

I had a better beard than that at 14

I could equally ask you why do jump to conclusions?

By the way the OP I noticed last night posted the same sob story on Instagram and stated she plastered it all over Facebook as well. So I giggled when someone mentioned that she quickly became a member today and then within 2 minutes she posted this rant. Not sure if she's looking for a sympathy while crying over spilled milk. If anyone seems to be sour it seems to be her more than her son. Or we're just not wanting to be classy and wanting to trash a company because you want freebies and dissatisfied that you didn't get something you didn't earn. I think the best part yet of all of this is the OP has not come back to respond or answered any questions on any of the three platforms she ranted on.

If they are in the buffet (out of uniform), they are off duty.  This young man, who posed with the check, was not a crew member on duty.

The OP speaks of a "Brand and Marketing Manager".....has anyone ever met such a title on PCL?

No me with over 45 cruises

The brand and marketing manager was a new position they added right before the pandemic shutdown. So I can contest that it is indeed an actual position. I know a couple of crew members who have been promoted and their executive like supervisor roles into this title.

So out of curiosity I looked up the post on Facebook.  And first off the "child" in question is for sure an adult so was able to gamble legally.  In my eyes this makes the fault on this family not on princess.  You choose to enter then withdraw.  He knew that he had gotten his money back so no reason to think he would actually win.  It seems they would have taken the money if princess did not realize their mistake and are mad because princess did catch the mistake.  Also the fact that the check is not made out to him but for him makes me question what really happened.

Entertainers do not wear name badges.

wouldn't it make more sense if a casino staff member held a "check" up instead of a random entertainer?

We were assisted by a casino staff member on our last Princess cruise, who definitely had a name tag which displayed his name and department. This was at Guest Services on the first day of the cruise.
