gkbiiii Posted January 9, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Will the next Cunard vessel be the King Charles, with Charles as the Godfather of the vessel?
Host Hattie Posted January 9, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2023 The ship currently being built is Queen Anne, who knows when/what the next one will be.

Who is to know when the next Cunard ship will be built. Will King Charles still be king then and if he is I very much doubt they would name a ship after a King.

nybumpkin Posted January 9, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2023 I think it's more likely that they would name a warship for him, but I'm not sure what the Royal Navy has in the works.
Rare Germancruiser Posted January 10, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2023 As far as I know- a ship - esp. a Cunard ship will always be a " Queen"!

Dorset cruise fan Posted January 10, 2023 #9 Share Posted January 10, 2023 We are now in the Carolinean era with Charles on the throne and there was a previous Queen Caroline, wife of one of the Georges so I think a Queen Caroline would be very appropriate. Dorset cruise fan Posted January 10, 2023 #11 Share Posted January 10, 2023 I can't spell, apparently it should be carolean, or Caroline so I would still go for a Queen Caroline. Does anyone else remember the little ditty : Queen, Queen Caroline Washed her hair in turpentine Turpentine made it shine Queen, Queen Caroline

The RN has had several ships called Prince of Wales, not all of which have ended happily. But they were all shes.
swjumbo Posted January 10, 2023 #14 Share Posted January 10, 2023 (edited) HMS Ark Royal, many castles, HMS Iron Duke, RRS Sir David Attenborough sort of blows some of these statements about ships being female out or the water. Crystal also has Crystal Bach, Mozart, etc. Hurtigruten’s Roald Amudsen, etc. The list goes on! Edited January 10, 2023 by swjumbo

Ships can be called anything they like - well, probably not something offensive - but are still referred to as she, though I’m not sure that applies in all languages. Perhaps so but the Op is specifically asking about naming a Cunard ship Long Charles and the answer would be no. Doesn't matter what other countries or cruise lines name ships that is not what was being asked.
