Influencers onboard

I don’t care how they earn their money.  This is about sharing a space with other people.  It’s not just for their use.

So why call out influencers specifically?  That isn’t an issue specific to influencers nor is it something you see in influencers/content creators/YouTubers generally.

Maybe because this thread is about “influencers”?  Or did I end up in the spa thread by mistake?

To the previous poster.  You have a common resource that 20-30-40 people want to use.  An “influencer” has no right to walk in and think they can have it for their exclusive use.  Yes anyone can be rude but they don’t usually video themselves doing it.

Be polite to your fellow passengers and we won’t have a problem.

A thread you started calling out influencers specifically for this.  Hence my question to you specifically about why you are calling out influencers when you are far more likely to encounter rude passengers on ships who are not influencers.

Well maybe because that’s what I wanted to discuss because I find them self important and annoying?  But ok, if a pax stole your pool chair, let’s talk about that instead.  🙄

You did.  What kind of spa treatment is the best ?

None of them.  Because last time I got one, an “influencer” was filming me for his fat acceptance website.  😭😭😭

Trust me -- I'm sure you will agree.

The biggest " problem " on board are rude, low-life , passengers ( try the OVC, pool lounge hogs, self-entitled folks that won't follow the dress code, and those in line removing gratuities, as an example ) rather than whom you call " Influencers " ---

I've never noticed one--- I could care less who the hell is filming around the ship-- and , if someone is making a few $$$ from their videos, good on them.

C'est la vie--- that's life.

What I don't understand about this thread is the fact that of all the rude people I have encountered on cruises, none of them have been influencers, content creators, YouTubers, etc.  You are far more likely to deal with the average rude passenger (who likely has a 9-5 job) than you are to deal with the few influencers who are rude and obnoxious.

I don't see why it should matter to anyone else how they earn their money (assuming they are doing so legally) or what hours they work.

All that said, I completely support those complaining about people who interfere with others' vacations but I think you are targeting the wrong group of people if you are focusing just on "influencers".

My response was to the person insulting those of us who earned an honest living the old way - working 9-5. Read the first paragraph of the post I was responding to and see what I mean.  I have no particular issue with influencers on a ship as long as they stay in their lane so to speak - I specifically mention that my comments can apply to non-influencers as well.  I happen to have a relative who has made a great living as an influencer of a different type.  I don't really care how they earn their money or what hours they work as long as they aren't adversely impacting the cruise I paid for as well.

LOL-- Now I'm insulted. See post # 282  where I said " I,I,I " a few times , and I ain't from no " new generation ".

12 pages over why someone who is filming around the ship disturbs some people ???

You know, the ones that have to find " something " to complain about.

And, bye the way-- I was going to complain to GR when our Server forgot to bring my 3 shrimp cocktails at the same time, but the line was too long with people removing their gratuities !!!

That’s the point.  I don’t want to notice them!

I'm not talking about someone who videos their cabin or takes pictures.  Maybe you get lucky and a pool is empty when you want to shoot video.  But taking over a space for their own use is not ok.  Don’t run around the buffet expecting everyone to wait for you.

Right!  I've seen lots of vlogs where they film the buffet.  As if the buffets aren't busy enough.  It would be super annoying being in the buffet and a vlogger is in the way because they're filming the food.

While I'd be annoyed if they're "in the way" but usually they move quickly or at most spend a few seconds at each dish

So they can maximize how many people they annoy?  😁

We’ve noticed them. On our last cruise a guy in his “costume” was constantly walking everywhere on the ship, holding his phone on a selfie stick out in front of him. A little annoying, but not really an issue. He didn’t block anyone or anything, just someone walking by filming you was a little awkward, i’d prefer he didn’t do it, but on a 1-10 scale of annoyance it registered about a 2

My first and only encounter was in May and I was patiently waiting my turn at one of the food stations as a person was filming the 4 or 5 dishes. I waited probably at least 5 or 6 minutes or more and then had to say "that's enough time".  She moved on.  I just thought it was rude to assume they can be there that long when people are waiting.  Why not just move aside and continue when no people are there.

Certainly if someone needed extra time I understand and would never say anything or just move to another station.  I was not going to another station so she could film for minutes on end.

I am different about this one, because being gluten free we watch recent videos of the buffets to see how easy it will be for me to eat on a new line. Since we consume the product, I would let them have their space because those videos are super helpful to us.

Although it may be helpful to you, it’s unbelievably rude for someone to hold up the line so they can record footage for a video. That influencer or YouTuber is making money and someone who PAID good money is left waiting while the Influencer makes a recording that is monetized. I’ve been stuck behind people thinking that they have priority access because they’re filming something and have zero patience if they take more time than someone who is filling a plate.

If someone is filming a legitimate public service video they should make arrangements with food & beverage to film when the venue is closed.

Small rant but tired of people thinking that they have special privileges because they’re filming or taking pictures of themselves.

The videos I have watched, they just go down the line pretty quickly and the videos are less then 15 minutes. We don't need the long form description of each dish, just a quick view. Most also seem that they were done at a more quiet time too. I for sure wouldn't watch a video where they wax poetic about the lunchroom food.

Not my area of expertise, so I don’t know the nuances, but if this video is being used for commercial purposes he should be required to get a release from anyone appearing in it who could be identified. Otherwise, it isn’t legal to release it.

A lot of people will blank faces.  I even watched an airline video recently where the reviewer blanked his own face.  But I would find it annoying if someone walked through a restaurant or other space filming everyone and everything.

I just watched part of a YouTube video by some rather annoying guys, recording in one of the Beyond pools.  Do I have to worry about influencers, TikTok stars etc taking over the ship?  I don’t have a problem sharing space but I’m not leaving a space to make it more convenient for them.

That Youtube video would be a great example to share so we can see what you mean.  TikTok, a bit different, might also have an example or two you (or others) could share showing a "ship being taken over".

My guess is that a person's likelihood of being disturbed by a customer writing a check in a grocery store line is much much greater than ever having that happen with a TikTok or Youtube person. :dontknow:

On the flipside, I will say I have seen countless non-vlogger types walking around - on ships and in ports, museums, parks, etc.. - having a Facetime chat with friends or family.  So, for that situation, I can GUARANTEE you will run into those types of people, and you might feel like you have to leave a space to get some peace while they chitchat away. With Starlink, more and more folks will likely be taking the opportunity to live chat with folks back home.

No one has a problem if people are considerate.  But if you are blasting your music at the pool or chatting with family at full volume at a restaurant without headphones I may ask you to turn it down.

If you want use of a space for your own benefit then ask management.  And no, just because someone has a YouTube channel it doesn’t mean that I care about it.

What I don’t understand is why people use speakerphone in public. I won’t ask anyone to stop though using their phone or stop blasting music. I ask management to ask them to stop. Too many psychos who get enraged.
