sandebeach Posted April 13, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2023 Today is the first day since Monday that the sun is shining on Ft. Lauderdale Beach! Our Ft. Lauderdale mayor has issued a State of Emergency. Residents have been asked to stay off the roads unless absolutely needed, because there are so many roads flooded and also blocked with cars that flooded and need to be towed off the streets.
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted April 13, 2023 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2023 I saw a live picture of the airport this morning. It looked like a lake. They will likely need to pump some of that water to speed the process.

Ret MP Posted April 13, 2023 #12 Share Posted April 13, 2023 I grew up in Dania, Fl (that's long before it became Dania Beach), right next to the airport (9XX Nautilus Isle, Dania, FL) and we used to get our little flat bottom boats and row up and down the streets between I-95 and US-1 during the rainy season(s), not every year but several times during my childhood. Yes, the airport would flood out too. It's too bad though that people are going through this today.

That number for Ft Lauderdale is about what we get here in the Phoenix area, in three years. 1

Florida, it only takes one SUPERCELL to dump that much rain or close to it, anyway. It's not uncommon in S. Florida to get flooded. The good news, it goes away fairly quickly. The bad news, flood insurance is very expensive.

Yep, until the water levels where the rainwater is pumped to goes down below flood levels, pumps and natural runoff doesn't do much good. But, current local news photos are showing the water subsiding, even some areas actually dry now. It won't be long before the water is gone and the clean-up begins/continues.
