AC isn't minor (but you did finally clarify after many post it was only an issue on the first day, but you felt it was worth mentioning anyway) and I use the TV to check my onboard account. I prefer not to use my phone.

You can’t seem to decide if I complained too much or too little.

And congrats on tying the knot!! Hope you have many wonderful years together (and without brown water...)

Yes, congratulations!  That went well, right?

For the most part my husband and I have sailed on Celebrity ships, but we have also sailed on RCI several times.  Last September we sailed on RCI's Enchantment of the Seas (our third time on this ship) for a 6 night cruise to Bermuda.  We had trouble with the plumbing in our Grand Suite from day 1.  We reported it and had maintenance come by several times to "fix" it.  Anyway on our final night on this cruise, the water started flowing BROWN from both the faucets and into the toilet.  It was disgusting, and we felt we could not use it to brush our teeth.  We did not complain (though I know we should have, but so many other things were poor on this cruise (maintenance-wise and general upkeep) that we just wanted to get thru the night and get off the ship.  My husband has worked for years in the plumbing industry in the US and said there is NO excuse for water running brown in any system.  We will not sail on RCI's Enchantment again, and now we will surely avoid Equinox.  Thank you for being honest about your experience on this ship.

Thank you for posting, and congrats on winning the brown water lottery also! Maybe we’ll get some casino points 🙂

@CelebrityBrownWater Thanks for explaining. I thought the other issues were throughout. I think I will bring a small vial in the future to just save a sample to pour out at GS if I have brown water and fsce stonewalling like you did.

(That makes 2 things I am planning on taking to GS...the other is my frig contents if the steward won't take it away as discussed in another thread.)

And yes, congrats! Getting married is the most important part of it all!

Thank you! And remember your cell phone is your biggest friend. When they were stonewalling, they actually asked if we had video, after seeing photos.

Record any major issue with photos and video.

This is one of the several reasons why we steer clear of drinking the tap water on board most ships - but this would have been awful just to even look at.  Thanks for reporting it here on the board!

Yes, my thought exactly. We actually cancelled a NCL cruise years ago when they dropped bottled water from the drink package. They would then allow guests to bring unlimited bottled water on board (admittedly a huge inconvenience) and then they banned this because of 'security'.  Posting our view and reason for cancelling on the boards we received many lectures of how great the ship's water was as if we were miscreants to want bottled as we drink at home (it always amazes me how many people will question one's preference). I see the Virgin Cruises also do not allow bottled water. Between IV cabins and included bottled water with DP one can eliminate many cruises.

Before I retired, I was in the water filtration business for 25 years and I do not drink tap water on land or on any ship because of what I know.. I drink only RO filtered water in my home and outside my home it is bottled purified or filtered water for us. Many here will say that the tap water on a cruise ship is safe to drink, but what the OP has experienced on the Equinox is proof that is not always true. At least the Celebrity drink packages include canned and/or bottled water in their packages. We sail in suites and with the premium drinks package we keep our cabin stocked with Evian bottled water as we will do next month on the Equinox.

I wish you congrats on your marriage!  My hub and I will be celebrating our 40th anniversary of marriage this year (on Celebrity just FYI, but not Equinox, lol).

We celebrated our 50th on the Equinox in 2021, but we did not win the brown water lottery either. We were in a Sky Suite and it was one of the best cruises we ever did. We will be back in the Retreat on the Equinox next month.

Evian is the way to go

What do you think of the ice cubes in drinks?

I also sold commercial ice machines and they require some type of minimal filtration. At home my Reverse Osmosis system feeds into my fridge ice maker. On a ship we keep the Evian bottles in our cabin mini fridge to keep them chilled. I only use ice in my adult beverage drinks at home and on the road. We do not drink sodas except for tonic and club soda in drinks. BTW, I do not drink the canned water on Celebrity, it is safe to drink, but to me it has a bad metalic taste, that is why I have our butler remove the cans and gives us Evain in glass bottles.

Water folks are as bad as beer folks…I learned that today,

That said I grew up drinking from the water hose outside when I was young.  I still do after yard work, etc…

Thanks..

We bring onboard a 4 pack of Fiji and supplement those with purchases at ports.  Onboard we prefer to buy water in glass.   I drink ciub soda  with lime, but wondered abt the ice,. Appreciate the info.

I really wouldn't fret about the ice onboard. That's whole next level unnecessary worrying!

The water on modern cruise ships is sea water which is processed in a desalinization system (reverse osmosis).  It tends to be high in sodium and sometimes the process is imperfect.  We always use only bottled water when cruising, including at meals, and avoid things like iced tea, etc.  The classic drink package includes unlimited bottled water which is highly purified.

This is not correct.  Evaporated water (a common method for making fresh water) runs at around 0-1ppm sodium,  and RO water is around 20ppm sodium, which is less than most municipal water.  Either system will divert the water produced back to sea if the alarm levels are exceeded, so the process is not "imperfect".

Thank you for correcting the information, I was going to do the same thing. Evaporated water is the same process for making distilled water. Also don't cruise ships add choline to the water to keep it bacteria free and sanitized?

Since you are good source on this, which process do modern cruise ships use for water on the ship, evaporated or RO water?
