SSBrickNJ Posted August 25, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) I'm getting more cruise solicitation mail than in the past. They want my future business. I'm thinking since I took a cruise earlier this month that this is not a coincidence. 1) Has anyone else experienced an uptick in various Cruise Related Mail after returning from a cruise? 2) Does anyone know if certain cruise lines happen to all tap into a mailing list of potential clients? RuthC Posted August 25, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2023 I am certain that HAL shares info with Carnival Corporation, who shares within the Carnival 'family' of lines. However, I am not aware if they share beyond that. I have gotten mail from other cruise lines, but sometimes I am able to tell by the way they have mangled my name that they didn't get it from HAL. 3
rodndonna Posted August 25, 2023 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2023 I am pretty certain they are shared within the Carnival line. It is quite evident if you play the Casino and get offers that they share.
crystalspin Posted August 25, 2023 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2023 I get postal mail from HAL and only HAL. I get email from HAL and Princess (whom I have booked but never sailed, but I do have a PVP with them). I get occasional email from Oceania -- I think I took part in a contest to name a new ship? I get no contact at all from Royal Caribbean or Norwegian despite having sailed once each. So no one appears to be sharing my address! 1
Rare Mary229 Posted August 25, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2023 Same as @crystalspin I only get advertising from lines I have actively opted into and no others. It is illegal to send unsolicited promotional emails.

HAL is part of Carnival Corp, they would disseminate details.
dockman Posted August 25, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2023 Try and imagine the size of the data base of email addresses that all the major cruise lines together now have.... That would be worth some very serious $$ to companies wanting to promote to the cruise demographic people. Of course the airlines and many other huge companies also have massive data bases of email addresses also worth zillions. Once upon a time you pretty much had to print and then mail stuff to peoples home addresses which was very time consuming and costly not to mention all the paper wasted....now an email promo can be produced and sent to millions with the click of a button...it's a different world. Not sure if big corps can legally sell your email addresses or not but the answer is probablay buried deep in all the fine print lawyer speak. Thankfully so far i do not thing HAL/CCL has sold the data to other companies.

PigsCanFly Posted August 26, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2023 We have never sailed Princess, we have not sailed Carnival in 30+ years, and sail Holland America frequently. As soon as we book a HAL cruise through a HAL casino offer, we get lots of HAL and Carnival emails, sometimes Princess. We also frequently sail Royal with casino and crown & anchor offers. When we book we seem to get Celebrity emails and occasionally a Azamara email. At least , in our case, I believe our status & casino play incites the interest from sister lines of HAL and Royal.
Rare Haljo1935 Posted August 26, 2023 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2023 I have not received any cruise related communication from outside the Carnival family except for the 1 line I explored pricing with. So, it does not appear as if CCL has sold my info.
Rare Mary229 Posted August 26, 2023 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) If you are getting “unsolicited” emails from lines you have never sailed with, even if under the same corporation you need to check your profile settings on their website. Additionally when I have hit the unsubscribe button on lines I am no longer interested the emails quickly end. this is different than selling your demographic information. Those are two separate enterprises. Edited August 26, 2023 by Mary229
Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted August 26, 2023 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2023 We don't get any from other lines.

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted August 26, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 26, 2023 I’ve been getting brochures from Atlas Lines, a new French? Cruise line. They have smaller ships. Frankly, I’m interested.
Ride-The-Waves Posted August 26, 2023 #15 Share Posted August 26, 2023 We receive hard copy solicitations but not emails. Some of it large glossy brochures for cruise lines we would never consider sailing. It is not easy to get off their mailing lists. Must be less expensive to creat and mail a brochure than to delete an address...

So thank you to EVERYONE who has participated in my thread. I've chosen to quote @PigsCanFlybut I have read what everyone has said. I've learned thru multiple people about the HAL-Carnival connection. Yes, Carnival is the one sending me the most postal mail. I've seen others reference PRINCESS. Yes, I'm getting emails from Princess. I also get the occasional flyer from NCL, but that seems to be just a continuation in what they've done for years. No uptick there. I'm fine with receiving emails or postal mail. I created this thread because I was curious, not because I was inconvenienced. Have a nice weekend everyone 🙂 Edited August 26, 2023 by SSBrickNJ
