Senior Savings Sale?

I just noticed on an upcoming cruise in the cruise planner that the Deluxe Beverage Package has a 35% Senior Savings Sale. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a Senior sale before.
Is this only offered to seniors?  Do they think seniors drink less on the package than younger purchasers?

hmmmm, I'm definitely a senior and I'm not seeing that sale for any of my upcoming bookings (Oct/Dec/Feb/Apr).

I logged out and back in (had logged in early this morning) and now it's there!  I see on 'the Blog' that now there's the option to add beverage packages when you book the cruise.  @Ourusualbeach are you seeing that option for your customers?

ETA: I only see this for my sailings through the end of this year.  It's not showing up for my Feb on Harmony or April on Anthem sailings.

Some people stated that they were denied because the age for this sale is 65+ and they were over 55 but not 65.

I think this is true--I'm over 65, but my friends in the stateroom next to me are 59 and 60--and aren't able to get this deal.

Great question! Why would RCI offer such a high discount?

Possibilities:

1. Assuming that drinks costs about $14 (plus automatic gratuities), at 25% and 30%, the standard breakeven point is five drinks per day. Even at that level, one could charge those five drinks to the room and still have the same overall costs.

At 35%, it appears the break even costs is four drinks a day. RCI maybe gets a few extra sales from cabins that might otherwise not buy a package.

2. Some people have medical issues or are taking prescriptions by the time they are 65+. A cabin might have one person who can drink alcohol and one that cannot. They might just pay again for the alcohol drinks for one and non-alcohol drinks for the other and still be cheaper than two drink packages at the current pricing.

3. Cabin prices in general have gone up. Some cruisers might be foregoing alcohol packages or buying less drinks on-board in order to free up money for the higher fares.

RCI obviously must believe that this is a profitable offer so RCI must assume that 65+ cruisers drink less on the average than younger cruisers. I know there are exceptions but the bean counters are like the casinos: as long as the bottom line is more profitable, they will keep experimenting with these numbers.

I believe this offer is a moot point for most C&A cruisers who are 65+ since they most probably have obtained Diamond or higher status which included happy hours in the past and vouchers presently.

In those cases, a person would have to drink more than nine drinks (if a current Diamond) in order to break even. I know some easily can do this when soda, coffee, juices, etc, are combined with their drink numbers. Maybe they are trying to entice older C&A cruisers into full unlimited drink packages and testing the water (I should say 'alcohol' 😆)  with the extra 5% discount added to the normal maximum 30% discount during special sales.

Not seeing that.  Still no access to the cruise planner for TA's

For an upcoming January cruise, the current offer of 30% off the CAD price of $141.28 pp/pd comes to $98.90 ($73.65 USD). That's $1390.51 USD for two for an 8 night cruise, over 50% of what we paid for the cruise. These BP prices are insane IMO.

Yes, I wonder how many people are dropping their purchase of the unlimited drink package in an effort to afford the cruise and pay on a drink by drink basis.

Just FYI  It's $67.99 for my 2 short Allure sailings in November,  $62.99 for the Dec Wonder and $77.99 for Christmas Allure

I checked my sailings and I never got the seniors discount on any of them.  I did have  50% off, 35% off and 20% off of some artificial selling price though

Depends on how much you drink on a cruise wouldn't you say?  $74 is equivalent to about five drinks. I can go over that easily when on a cruise ship. Especially factoring in wine at dinner, specialty coffees, etc.
