Good for you. Something we always do to inconsiderate people and we aren't teachers. 😉

We were seated just behind this area at the high top bar (great for quick exits) and witnessed a lady become irate bc she wasn’t allowed to sit in the reserved section. She was loud and quite vocal in expressing her disgust with all the “able bodied people in that area taking space away from a little old lady…”. We offered our seats but she declined. And if that wasn’t enough, the show was standing room only with crowds of people standing behind us…carrying on full conversations… during the show!  It ceased a bit when I turned around and flashed my teacher grade stink eye in their direction. Some how this doesn't surprise me, I did food and wine pairing in Feb and this couple talked over the sommelier (apparently they knew more than him too). Everyone was getting annoyed, I normally stay quiet but I snapped and told them to keep it down as they were ruining it for others. For some context I have hearing issues so their noise was making it hard for me to hear the sommelier. They said 'because of their age they had to talk louder' I call BS on, you wait until the sommelier is done not talk over him.

Anyway I stood my ground - funny enough they were able to talk quietly between themselves after. Once the event was done they left pretty quick and others came up to thank me for standing up because they were annoying them too.

Two interesting things occurred yesterday:

1.  Deal or No deal cards went on sale in the casino and the line was very long and slow moving. I wasn’t in line but I was playing at a slot machine in the thick of the line. It was interesting to hear people’s complaints about various things…in this case, the very slow moving line. The game must be a lot of fun..not sure I would have waited in that line. At one point there was a brief, yet hostile exchange between 2 passengers regarding possible line cutting. It was quickly resolved but not before a few choice words were exchanged. Celebrity may want to reconsider how they go about selling the Deal/No Deal cards.

2. Evening chic is very casual. Those of you who are struggling with how to pack all your Alaska stuff AND chic attire, rest assured there’s nothing to fret about as it seems most anything goes.

But regarding chic night, the other interesting thing occurred in the theater in the reserved section for Retreat guests. Love the teacher grade stink eye…at this stage in my school year it has become less and less effective.  😂

We find the MDR menus to be more varied and the Luminae menu didn’t appeal. Additionally, the MDR’s ambience is much more pleasing to us because we don’t feel packed in like sardines.

This is one of the reasons we prefer the Solstice or Millennium class ships, you can order off the MDR menu in Luminae and also are not packed in like sardines in Luminae.

However, it is good that you can go to any of the MDR's and get seated.

The price discrepancies are annoying, but on the bright side it looks like Montaudon is back️, or that is an old menu.  None on the Edge for the TP in April.

It appears that the red cabernet list has shrunk?  No Gingrich Hills?  I would have expected to have seen two more elevated California cabernets besides Caymus ...

great photos.  Our friends will board ECLIPSE in Vancouver( I believe)..later today.  This port is on their itin.

We did a 10 nighter on Eclipse in Alaska. It was the best cruise of our lives. They are in for a great time.

Oooh. I love how you’re spilling the tea! Lol. 🙂

@SerraG and @Georgia_Peaches would you agree with this for dinner attire.  I’m seriously contemplating packing designer jeans in dark and white with a mix and match of blouses and two easily packed dresses (not cocktail, more professional/work) for chic nights.  For DH, designer jeans and polos with black dress pants, dress shirt, two different ties for the chic nights.  I think this seems okay, but want to make sure. We aren’t opposed to dressing up but if it’s much more casual want to “fit in” and avoid excess luggage.

If he likes wearing tie's that is fine.  It is close to what i wear.  However, I no longer bring ties but do throw a sports coat in the bag in case I feel like wearing it.

A few pics from Ketchikan:

Did you do the Lumberjack show?  That's one of the main attractions in Ketchikan.

Also, we found the best prices for smoked salmon there.

He’ll wear ties…lol…easier to pack than a sports jacket.

I remember when I was on a cruise and the day before Kotor we had the line up for tender tickets. Several of us were in a loose line in chairs leading up to the desk where the crew member would be handing them out. About 30 minutes before the designated time, a couple of guys came up and plopped down AT the desk. About 15 minutes before, the crew members came up to get things organized and told them they needed to get in line. They proceeded to just move around right in front of the desk as their female significant others who had not shown their faces before showed up. Which was also when someone behind me in the line said to the crew members that they had not been there the whole time and pointed to a couple who were there before me and me and said "They were here when I got here. These guys weren't." And the female significant others had the audacity to say that their men had been there "all morning". We knew that few people wouldn't really affect the number we got, so we didn't make a huge deal about it. And yes, everyone including them up to the person who spoke up got ticket 1 for general tender. But it could have gotten ugly. There has to be a better way than the general line up.

And yeah - guess who didn't show up on the first general tender. The big bros who lied about being first.

I typically wouldn’t either but the last time I cruised I wore dresses every night.  Which I suppose I could do. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We had a lovely day in port…despite the rain. In fact, given that I was prepared, I welcomed the rain by channeling my inner child and splashing through rain puddles…because I could!

After a walk about town we made our way to the 11:15 lumberjack show. We bought our tickets on line ahead of this trip and used a military discount to gain entry for an addition 15% savings. The show was the perfect amount of cheesy with a sprinkling of historical account of the logging industry. We had a ball!  I’d like to give a special shout out to the Ketchikan Fire and Rescue who promptly and professionally attended to an elderly cruise passenger who was having difficulties at the beginning of the show. My heart and prayers go out to the patient and family. 🙏

After the show we sought a place to eat smoked salmon dip to be washed down with a local brew. Not sure why I thought such was a thing because apparently it isn’t. After 3 failed attempts to find such elusive offerings, we gave up and headed back to the ship. We opted instead for a cocktail in the hot tub on the retreat pool deck.  It was a great way to while away the afternoon.

I thought it was appropriate, so I bought it. I’m happy to add this little number to my cruise T shirt collection.

I take the jacket -- I think on our last 13 day cruise I wore it one evening chic night.

I wear jeans/polo's in the day time, dress slacks and dress shirts in the evenings.

I think you will have a wonderful trip. As has already been said, layering is your friend. I lived in a long sleeved shirt and a fleece vest. The only place we used our puffy jackets was on the Mendenhall Glacier.

Safe travels!

Carolyn

Carolyn, what month did you go? We are 3 weeks out and, while I don't want to over pack, I want to be prepared!

We have often managed with just puffers and sweatshirts.    My only recommendation is that if you want to spend outside on deck at the Glacier make sure you bring Ear Muffs, Scarf and Gloves.   It really gets quite nippy outside during the stay at the Glacier.

My sister from Oklahoma (who never listens) didn't bring any of the above and I had to give up some of mine... should have just let her freeze.

Typical sibling.... you "should have" but you didn't!

Loving your review Georgia_Peaches! (as always!)  🙂

In your first post you noted that you are in the retreat....we (group of eight) are planning an Alaskan cruise and hoping to all book in a suite for the first time.  Question for you (and others who have sailed in suites before) - are folks in suites allowed to attend/eat in the MDR's if they don't like the menu in Luminae?  (Apologies in advance for what is likely a rookie question lol.  We are seasoned X cruisers but know nothing about suites).  Thank you!

If you are sailing on an M or S class ship, you may order off the MDR menu in Luminae.  And you can mix & match.
