Medallion

OK What are these things?  I understand that they open your cabin and you put your cruise ship charges through them but what is with all the designs?  Can I just get a plain one or I have to pay for a design? And now I see you really should purchase a way to hold the medallion so as not to lose it and make it easy to carry.  Can I ask how everyone does theirs?  What do women do as opposed to men?  I don't want to order something that says-Newbie to Princess just by what I have ordered.  I guess I don't need my lanyard for my room card.  LOL

Think of a medallion as another form of cruise card. There is no charge for them. They come with a lanyard. Most carry them other ways. They are shipped to you pre cruise , US & Canada, if you completed all the check in info and you have the plus or premier fare. You can also pick them up at the pier. Nothing to fear. Medallions are harmless.

I order the plain medallion they are small so the design is difficult to see, IMO those ones are more of a memento than a fridge magnet after the cruise.  They each come with a lanyard and the medallion just pops into it.

I have blingy medallion holders with a retractable cord that attach to my purse or belt loop no awkward bending and its not around my neck.  Amazon sells some nice ones if you're interested.

Yes, you can get a "plain" one. Your first cruise color will be blue. There is no charge for it.

It comes standard with a lanyard whIch has remarkably soft non-irritating material. We both just use that. Some men say they put it in their pockets, some women's clothes don't have so many pockets, (the Mrs. tells me.) She prefers the lanyard anyway.

Suggest picking it up at the port. You'll read here the problems people have with delivery. So, why sweat it?

They are magnetic and stick on your cabin wall at night, so you don't lose them.

At Dollar Tree they have AirTag holders for like a buck-and-a-half if you prefer. They fit the Medallion.

You seem to be concerned how you will appear. When I see someone purchasing everything offered, photos, bling, logo merchandise... it's then I think newbie.  But it's not a bad thing. Most people, if they see you are new, with a blue Medallion, will be helpful. You may run into the odd stuffed shirt, but it's Princess so very few of those. Enjoy!

I have no problem with a lanyard-have used them for all my other cruises.  Concerned DH will lose his as I heard its about the size of a quarter.  Might want to get something for him as he will not use a lanyard.  Didn't know delivery was/is such a problem.  Is it a pain to pick it up at the port?  Are the lines long?  Just think I will be adding to the embarkation process which I want as easy as possible....

No issues getting our medallions ordered and delivered in plenty of time. Nice option. We didn't use lanyards or wristband holders. Kept mine in my pocket and my wife kept hers in her purse.

I use a purse while cruising in the evening only.  During the day I use my beach bag and I slip my lanyard and his card (mediallion) into our vacation vault which is secured to both of our chairs.  Can't help it-New Yorker here-permanently paranoid .  LOL

Like to order it. Love when it comes two weeks before the cruise. Saves five minutes in boarding because you are in the green lane not blue.  I use a lanyard ( easy in the casino. My husband got a wristband ( Amazon). They are waterproof so no need to take it off. Makes life easy.

No.

Are the lines long?

Depends on when you get there. Early, longer lines.

Remember that a good bit of their business is to new customers. You will not be alone being new to the line, far from it! They will be there to help you through questions you may have at the port or onboard. You will read here that many of us have different tastes about many issues, foods, services, entertainment..., but I think most will agree that Princess crew is the best. Just enjoy yourselves!

Most airtag holders will fit a medallion if you want to look at wristbands, clips, wallets, etc. on Amazon. As others have said, it comes with a plastic "pendant" that attaches to an included cloth lanyard, so no need to purchase any separate holders if you don't want to. In the past, I have used the included clear plastic pendant that I attach to my own fancier lanyard. For my upcoming sailing next week, I bought a fancier silver pendant airtag holder to put it in. My husband has a "sport clip" that clips to his collar, shirt pocket, belt, or belt loop.

To me the lanyard just screams tourist especially when I see people wearing them in port

I am a tourist in ports. Strange thing to be worried about.

I used to knot the lanyard around my wrist like a bracelet.  Then Mrs Ldubs bought me a medallion wrist band, so I now wear it like a watch.

You do recognize that in some ports tourists are targeted for pick pocketing or other crimes

So true!  That's why we keep ours in our pocket using the *original* medallion holders!

We use a carabiner in our pocket. Large enough not to get lost but small enough to not show

We have not picked up our medallions at the port since they started shipping to Canada, never had an issue and they always arrive early.

Mine gets attached to my purse right away and hubby's gets zipped up inside.  I've had to wait in line before so glad I don't have to do that anymore.

I believe sometime last year Princess decided ‘new’ to Princess will have a White medallion with a ‘Blue’ Seawitch. Previously, white was used for the inaugural year of a new ship.

As you progress, the background color will match your loyalty level with a White Seawitch.

I use a Velcro wrist band. It’s on my wrist 24x7 so I always have it.

It came from Amazon & I use it on all of my cruises.

You really don't need to pay for a designer medallion and you can carry it with the provided lanyard, with just the little clip and holder at the bottom of the lanyard or remove it altogether and just keep it (about the size of three nickels piled up) in a pocket.

I prefer to carry mine in a small Faraday pouch attached to a belt loop clip/carabiner. I can stick it in my pocket or let it hang. Keeps it out of sight and undetectable until I choose to pull it. My preference, one generally viewed as weird and paranoid by many of my friends here.

My wife loves her silver colored bracelet purchased, at a surprisingly reasonable price, on board.

Our most recent experience was May of this year. Those on first booking were blue. It may have changed since then.

Our daughter had her first sailing Princess cancelled in 2020, as did many of us. So they creditied her for that and her first cruise was a gold Medallion, (which looks chartreuse to me.)

Yes, in port our medallions go in either pocket (DH) or purse (me). We probably still look like tourists, though 😏
