Beware Of The Quest

Recommended Posts

If there was a quest on Voyager last April, I was oblivious to it. I guess I need to pay more attention to the Compasses.
I missed it on my first cruise, too. Sure, I saw it listed, but it didn't beckon to me, so I didn't go.

Now I never miss one. :) I have some WONDERFUL blackmail videos of my children. :D

Quest and Love and Marriage are supposed to be 18 and over, your son should NOT be there. It states it in the compass and they make an announcement at the beginning of the show!!!This is an adults only show

One of the couples in the Love and Marriage game on our cruise had their late teen sons seated near the front of the auditorium. Anytime they said something embarrassing, the CD had the boys stand up and be noticed. No real harm for their age group.

What they need is a Senior Quest game where the nursing home contingent can compete. I can just imagine topless seniors humping, girate-ing, and cross dressing all over the ship. BEWARE!!!!

I really don't think RC is going party line. These ships are so huge, you can always find a quiet refuge. Generally speaking, the hot tub orgies are confined to Carnival's 3-4 day cruises.

OMG THAT IS TOO FUNNY

RCCL used to always claim it was a PG-13 game. (2002-2003). Although the content of the game has not changed, the description has slowly changed from PG-13 (2002-2003) to Not Recommended for children (2003-2004) to Recommended for adults only (2004-2005), and now it would seem to PG-18. (Parental Guidance).

None of which would suggest that Children under 18 are absolutly not permitted.

I am looking at the compass from our Navigator cruise from January. On the front page it specifically says "ADULTS ONLY". The last time I checked adults only means no children.

If what you are saying is true, and feeling as you do....I would start writing letters to RCI. I'm not sure that a forum about Quest is the appropriate place for your comments, especially considering the philosophy of the Quest event.

I totally disagree. What are these boards for if not for sharing information with fellow cruisers. If the nature of the show is changing (even if just in a few cases)why shouldn't people be made aware of it so they can make their own informed choice.

I also don't agree with the poster who labeled the OP a troublemaker. I think those who are attacking the OP are the troublemakers.

I come to CC for the great things I can learn while planning a trip, but I am constantly frustrated by people who flame others for asking a question or stating an opinion.

It is sad, but when I am referring people to CC I tell them they can learn a lot here, but you better have thick skin sometimes.

I completely disagree with this. Allowing children to attend adult events affects the event for everyone there. Most adults are quite inclined to "censor" themselves when children are present in ways they wouldn't have to if parents respected the adult events. It creates a completely different feel and vibe. It can be similar to adults who prefer to be seated only with other adults at dinner because they do not want to have to tailor their conversation to youngsters. Did it occur to you that it was not "R" rated as it often can be specifically because the children were allowed to stay, the participants knew that, and so the adults tempered their behavior? And it should not be the responsibility of adults to adjust for children being present at activities like Quest; it's the responsibility of parents to remove their children from such activities. How about parents respecting the "adult event" notations in the first place and not bringing their children to those events?

I believe that RCI should make the age minimum a requirement at Quest and all other adult entertainments--just as they do with the casinos. It is patently unfair to allow parents who are so selfish and disrespectful to diminish the enjoyment for other adults, who rightly expect that adult events will be attended by adults only.

And don't give me any of that "I paid for my kids to cruise and they can go wherever and do whatever they want." I paid for my cruise, but you don't see RCI allowing me into the AO facilities.

beachchick

p.s. Quest isn't any big deal to us, but I doubt I would have enjoyed the one described. But guess what: I would have left the area instead of complaining later.

Amen to that!!!! I could not agree with you more!!! Keep your kids out of adult areas!!! It's as simple as that!!!!

Why isn't this an appropriate place for a thread about Quest? I'm a bit confused, I thought CC was a place to get information and share experiences and opinions about cruising?

And there's also usually an Adults-oriented comedy show. Typically, a comedian will do an "all audiences" show during the main show times on one night, but then return at midnight on another night for what is billed as adult humor.

Take this to heart. You will probably hear all of the seven words George Carlin said you couldn't say on television (the days before cable) and even a few you may have to look up on the Internet later on. Often, the words are strung together to describe in detail things that you may consider to be vulgar. We love it -- but it is not for kids.

But again, it's only 45 minutes at midnight out of your entire cruise. Some might say your kids should be in bed already -- I just say this is not the place for them.

Thanks to all for this thread. We are soon to take our first RCCL cruise, and it sounds as if it will be our last. I don't care to associate with people who think this behavior is entertaining. No, my daughter won't be at this show, but she might be at the pool next to the guy who just finished performing, and I doubt his personality will change much. These are situations I try to protect her from. On land you can just leave- on a ship you are stuck with the others on board.

I don't want to be "Way off base" here but how would your daughter know the guy next to her at the pool was the performer at the Quest show unless she asked him.

Theoretically he could be on the Carnival cruise you book in 2 years too, couldn't he?

I applaud your protecting your daughter, I do the same with my daughter.

But you should not let others prevent you and yours from doing what you really want to do. There are mean, evil and perverted people all over the world, not just at the Quest shows on RCCL.

If we ran our lives hiding from the evil in the world we would all be hiding in our homes.

Go on your cruise and have fun, don't go and be looking over your shoulder.

  • 10 years later...

Having family with almost 50 cruises on RCI to account for, Quest has been being changed up lately. Mostly because of the unfair morons that seem to think it necessary to show up with bag fulls of the so called requested items. Now how realistic is that? Especially to someone who has never been or seen? Seens tons of the Quest shows, and although they are resemblant of frat party hysterics and adult in nature, I don't see it being as bad as some are making it out to be. I am quite sure it wasn't a lap dance that was called for, despite what particular people saw it as. And if guys doing the worm is considered banging the floor...then hey...whatever.

Are they still doing this, ten year later. On the EOS next week. No one has mentioned this is on our M & M. Great sailing folks woohoo

Nor should they have, as unless it was specifically written as so in the Cruise Compass or stated prior to the show, the rule does not exist.

"recommended" does not mean it's a rule. just a few years ago every compass would say "The Quest, Rated PG-13"

I've only been cruising Royal Caribbean for 5 years, but in that time I have always seen it as 18+ and marketed as adults only. Agree this is not enforceable, but I don't agree that it's been marketed as PG

Edit to add: oh gosh! I've just realised this is a super old thread that's been resurrected. I guess my view stands though :)

You seem to be digging up some very old threads tonight. Btw, the poster you quoted above passed away a few years ago.

Wow, wondered how this thread made its way back to the top! The quality of the Quest depends on the CD AND the crowd. We have been on sailings where it was a snooze fest (ahem, John Blair), and others where it's been a BLAST (Leigh Xuereb). As Leigh liked to point out, if you, as a parent, choose to have your minor children in there, Royal isn't going to pay for therapy. One sailing the CD actually busted a team for having brought a bag of supplies. Bravo! It's so easy to have that kind of "cheating" going on, so it's on the CD to be creative enough to change the game up just enough to keep everyone on their toes.

Truly, if the Quest is not your style, please leave and don't spoil it for the others. We look forward to this on EVERY sailing.

Still doing the Quest on Explorer and Enchantment. Not sure about Empress. I think those are all the EOS ships.

Interesting read. I didn't realise Quest has been running for so long as I only came across it on my last cruise.

I only went to it as a last minute, impulse thing to satisfy my curiosity. I am not from US so have never seen the show. Didn't know what to expect but knew it was adults only.

The show I watched was tame but I could see that with the right participants and the right encouragement, people could get carried away. The comedy club has a strict age restriction as does the nightclub so no reason why they can't do the same with Quest.

Did I enjoy it? Would I go again? Is it my cup of tea? The answer is no, no, no. Would I be offended if it went a little too far? Probably not.

What surprised me is how seriously the participants take this and how involved the crowd get. Clearly it is popular. Perhaps a warning to let people know what to expect so that nobody is offended.

Well, I'm an "adult" and MichaelinME, I'm with you....I definitely do NOT want to see men humping the floor or other women naked doing lap dances....sorry but that does border on classless and gross rather than "adult". Give me a break. I played Quest on the Explorer, and sure they had men put on bras and other funny stuff, and we had an absolute blast! However I don't want to go see a late night free for all with a bunch of people's body parts hanging out or simulating sex. I'm not a prude but people's decency, or lack thereof, seems to be getting a bit out of hand. Hopefully it was just that one cruise director that allowed it and it's not the game entirely that's going to the dogs. We had a HILARIOUS time playing it on Explorer, it was probably the highlight of the cruise! Hopefully it will be the same this next time! :)
Don't believe every post you read on CC. You should know better.

Hmmmm - there mustn’t have been any threads about Quest that entire time. How else would one even find it?!?!

PS. Why doesn’t CC lock threads that have been dormant for a while? Like 6 months or a year?

Why should CC lockout old threads? I sometimes find new info from an old thread I missed or elected not to read when it was first posted. Apparently this thread caught your attention enough to read and then post a comment and question. Thanks for doing your part in keeping this old/dormant thread alive.

Especially on the Mariner of the Seas!

We recently were on the Mariner of the Seas. Our second time on this ship and about 9 other times on Royal Cariibean ships.

We always enjoyed going to Quest show. (Adult Scavenger Hunt). For the most part they were always funny and little risque. But we still enjoyed them till this past time.

The cruise director, Becky Thompson encouraged a different kind of Quest Routine, which was very offensive, and included having children in the Studio B that were not supposed to be there. They did not enforce the 18 or older rule on this ship.

This Quest was practically a pornographic show, encouraged by Becky and her assistant cruise directors!! They had men, simulating sex on men (each other),they encouraged women to take off there tops, and many did, but one of them was completely topless, and they did nothing to stop her except a few minutes after she performed her routine, which was lap dancing on a man ,nude!!

Men were instructed to hump the floor! And becky encouraged men to take off there pants, but one guy had his on, because he had nothing underneath, but was willing to take it off!.

Anyway, we have always enjoyed the Quest, don't mind pushing the envelope, but this was totally unacceptable, and unbecoming of Royal Caribbean and the Cruise DIrector. We are both younger aged, not older but see this as complete carelessness at who they offend.

We were with a group, who we encouraged to go see this show, only to be horrified by the results!!

Beware on the Mariner!!

Hey no need to convince me, Becky really was the best CD ever. We had a similar experience in July of 2006 and have been let down by every Quest since.
