  1. The cruise is June 20 on Cunard QE. The reason given for canceling Juneau was “operational issues “. I call it a sea day however they will be going into one of the glaciers.
  2. Since it is bussing the article I read says the rockslide fix has to comply with DOT requirements, whatever that means. I seem to remember the article saying that the city would also have spotters watching the mountain just in case. Even if that works not sure I would want to be on a big ship with everyone trying to get on however many buses they have. I have a cruise scheduled to stop there however I think it will be touch and go all season. The cruise I am in already canceled Juneau and put in a sea day. I will not be happy if they cancel another port.
  3. I think it would s more like “fairly common” for cruises in general. On the last 6 cruises I have been on/planned the itinerary has changed on 3 of them. On four of them if you include getting back to the starting port over 5 hours late.
  4. That would get me really upset. I have a friend on that cruise.
  5. The problem with being shuttled is that the mountain has to be fixed and safe from landslides in order for the shuttle to run. Again work scheduled complete by April if all goes smoothly.
  6. Then Celebrity new about this last September but didn’t tell people until past final payment?
  7. I read an article that says the Skagway dock repairs will hopefully be done by April. If the repairs are successful we should be OK. If the repairs aren’t successful then they will have to skip Skagway. The article also mentioned using buses to shuttle people at the dock.
  8. They are looking at everything to raise revenue and cut costs. If it ever goes down, it won't be by much. This will continue until people stop traveling on the cruise line.
  9. Just want to confirm that the free at sea doesn't include Cappuccinos and Chai Lattes? We are not big drinkers, so all the free alcohol is not that important to us. Not even sure it justifies the cost of the gratuities if the coffees aren't included.
  10. There is a limit (I think it is 12) and then you can't bring soda.
  11. There are cruise lines that include bottled water. Royal is just getting cheap. The McDonalds of the Seas.
  12. You do keep the OBC. If you are bidding on Retreat I would email Celebrity to see if they include dinks. I say this because the rule is you don't get any promotions associated with the new room but you do get the standard benefits of the room class, not sure if drinks are considered a promotion or part of the room for retreat. If you are bidding on Aqua you don't get drinks. FYI, the same thing happened to me, within the 90 days they charge more than the difference between cabin prices. Leaves Move-Up as the only answer.
  13. FYI, the big box store does not participate in the program so if you booked through them then you will NOT get an offer. The one caveat is that sometimes (depending on capacity) they make a decision a little further out then 4 days so if you bid too close to sailing they may have already accepted other bids. I also have a feeling that they might make a rolling acceptance. However, I do agree with your conclusion that they "shuffle the deck in the most financially advantageous way for Royal."
  14. The official limit is one bottle per person. As others have said the official limit has been in place for MANY years.
  15. I am trying to find out if the "designated smoking areas" impact any of the cabins with balconies.
  16. Where is this on the Celebrity website? I can't find it. I know this is the policy on Royal cruises.
  17. Subjective, so if you thought it was banquet hall quality before then it is one step below now.
  18. Probably have to settle for OV or inside however they are there. Repositioning cruises sometimes go for these prices.
  19. I think the food quality has gone down however for the cruise we were on this month I think it was acceptable. But not great. Not 4 or 5 star restaurant quality. of course food can be somewhat subjective.
  20. They might also change some of the cabin numbers. Also, FYI, they sometimes shut down the port for hours at a time due to fog. Celebrity has no control.
  21. Both Royal and Celebrity have gone downhill however based on my last cruise I still believe Celebrity is “acceptable.” Some people might think it has slipped below that. If you can book Royal for $50 pp/pn it still might be worth it. The cruise lines are cutting back to try and get to full profitability. I would not expect improvements until they have paid down a lot of the debt.
  22. Are there any cabins impacted by people smoking?
  23. On deck 9 you can get chair movement noise from above. Still a good choice.
  24. Our first cruise on Celebrity was last June on Summit and the next time we sailed was this January on Constellation. Between these two sail dates the quality of food has definitely declined. They are using lower cuts of meats for example. For example in the buffet (I know you asked about the MDR but this is a very clear example), many of the chicken dishes used chicken drumsticks, not even chicken thighs. In the MDR they did not have prime rib in the 21 days we were onboard (a B2B). So overall I was not thrilled however, for us, it was acceptable. The one other thing to consider is since they slashed the dinner buffet (lunch and breakfast are still ok) most people will eat in the MDR making things more crowded/hectic.
