We won a moveup bid on a recent cruise with 2 linked cabins and found out each move up is considered independent of each other and there's no guarantee the new cabin will be assigned in close proximity to the other linked cabin. In our situation we started with a C3 and an inside. The inside won the bid and was moved to a C1 2 floors up. We called Celebrity and explained our need to be in close proximity to the other cabin. We were fortunate that they were able to identify 2 concierge cabins down the hall from each other and they made the switch for us. They said they can't guarantee this would work out again in the future, but were happy to make an adjustment where possible.

If Elite or higher would you book cruise only?
kathynorth replied to gordylad's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We price out our cruise with AI and with sail only + gratuities. If the difference is more than $250pp we take the sail only, bring our 4 bottles of wine, pick up water during the 5-7 happy hour, etc. If there’s anything else we want we pay for it. -
Yes, your Captains Club perks stay. You are treated like any other paying cruiser. You even get points based on level of cabin.

Custom private tour Cusco, Machu Picchu. What not to miss
kathynorth replied to trk_koa's topic in South America
We were on a Celebrity cruise and added on the MP/Peru land tour. We had explored booking with other companies since we saw so many on these boards doing that, but although expensive we thought staying with the cruiseline would simplify all the transfers. We had never visited SA and thought this made sense for us. Well, our trip was top shelf the entire way and we were pleased with our decision. -
Punta Tombo is a huge penguin colony about a 2hr drive from Puerto Madryn. It was a wonderful experience with lots of tour options. Try to get on a tour that will leave soon after the ship docks so you get there before the ship tours. We took this tour in Dec 2018. Their website showed the early start, so I emailed them based on advice I read on these boards. They said they decided to add a boat for the cruise travelers and we were able to reserve spots on the later tour. The boat ride there and back was eh, but the penguins on the island were great. It was lots of fun walking the trail to and from the lighthouse with penguins everywhere.

Bringing Alcohol, Not a debate, Interpretation
kathynorth replied to kelleyd's topic in Celebrity Cruises
It seems that many of the screeners get easily confused with differing alcohol policies of the different cruiselines. On our last cruise we brought on 4-750ml bottles of wine. My DH packed them in 1 carry on bag, which was flagged as he went through. I had gone through in front of him with our other carry on items. This resulted in a debate that involved 6 or so screeners. "Is 1 person allowed to board with 4 bottles? Should his wife return to the station to carry on 2 of the bottles? Is this the new Celebrity policy, maybe we should get the supervisor and have this looked up?" Fortunately I had a copy of the cruise contract on my cell phone and was able to show it to them so we could all stop wasting time. My point is that you may end up with a screener who agrees with your volume conclusion, but you may end up with a screener who says 2 bottles per person. Your best bet is to not carry them all in the same bag and if you have a travel partner have them carry some onboard. -
I think Celebrity took out the Silk Harvest restaurant and it's now the LePetit Chef dining show.

By when do I need to purchase insurance?
kathynorth replied to TravelingCircusof5's topic in Celebrity Cruises
I had this same question and found out you need to know what type of insurance you want before you can figure out the deadline. Trip cancellation, trip interruption, medical, medical with pre-existing, and/or evacuation? Each of these categories also have factors to consider. Some types of insurance require purchase within a booking period, others can be purchased the day before the trip. Timine can also influence price of the product. Figure out what type(s) of insurance you are looking for and then ask your same question specific to that type of insurance. -
I'm Elite+ and have cruised in the same cabin with family members who were classic in Captain's Club. If you are invited to an event (Elite Breakfast, Heli-pad Sail Aways, Wine Tasting Event, Backstage/Bridge tours, Welcome Back Cocktail Events, etc.) then your cabin mate will also be able to attend with you. Your cabin mate will not receive any free CC happy hour drinks, laundry, match plays, etc.

My suggestion is to try for both. We were lucky enough to make it to Magdelena Island and had a great time. We were tripping over penguins!

Finally going to Alaska - X Cruisers, WWYD?
kathynorth replied to Alsmez's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We've been on 2 Alaskan cruises: one went to Glacier Bay and the other to Hubbard. Since you're asking for opinions, I'd go on the one to Hubbard since you get up close to an enormous calving glacier. Whale watching out of Icy Strait (private tour) was one of my favorite excursions of all time. -
I just read the article and think this is a terrible idea. I agree that many passengers order multiple entrees that they don't fully eat, but part of that problem is that the waiters encourage this practice. Instead, the kitchen could offer 2nd helpings as sides, where you can get a half order of a dish instead of getting a 2nd full plate of food. I routinely order off what was referred to as the "classics" menu when the menu of the day doesn't appeal to me. It's nice to know that salmon or a steak is always available. I'm not sure how eliminating that option will speed up service. If they continue to slim down the menu in MDRs the cruiselines risk turning their "restaurant" into a school cafeteria.

Call Captains Club and ask if they can change the reservation for you. You can also do it after you board the ship.

frito58, thanks for posting your experience. I hope you are feeling better and on the way to a full recovery! Your post has pushed me to check on comparing insurances to be sure we choose the best fit for our needs.

Places like Blue Lagoon typically say you can’t bring in your own food, but no one has ever checked our bags. You can get closed cans of water as part of your drink package. On port days there is often a person just before leaving the ship with water. At this time Celebrity does allow passengers to bring water onboard. We once brought on a case of Pellegrino. Your cabin attendant will leave beach towel in your cabin the night before port days. You can take these off ship. Be sure to return the towel to your cabin so you don’t get a purchase charge for a missing towel.

Good that you are at home and hopefully feeling a bit better; wishing you a speedy recovery. Are you sure that’s a number for the ship? It could be someone shoreside following up to be sure you’re ok. If you post the first part of the phone number we can let you know if that’s a US landline.

On our most recent cruise it looked like I was able to complete the muster drill on the app the night before so I did so. Then it showed as not completed shortly after we were on the ship and I needed to do it again prior to check in at the muster station.

Unfortunately, the bed in our cabin wasn't comfy and clearly needed to be replaced. The couch in our room also need replacement, but dresser, closets, and bathroom were all fine. There was a rather noticeable round rust stain, maybe 2ft diameter on our balcony. It made me wonder why someone didn't slap a coat of paint to cover that up. We also saw carpet replacement taking place in some of the cabins on our deck. All the common areas looked fine though. We had been on the Summit 6-weeks prior to our Infinity cruise and did comment that the refurbished Summit had much brighter common areas, likely because of the renewed furniture in these locations. However, the aging of the Infinity didn't dampen our enthusiasm for this ship. In fact, we'll be sailing back on the Infinity is a few short months.

Yes, that’s what we were required to do on our recent cruise. As an FYI, only the elite+ passengers get the discount. We booked and paid for dinner for our family of 4. My DH and I received the elite+ discount, but we paid full price for the other 2 members of our family.

I’ve been on 3 different Celebrity ships since the restart and going to your cabin to collect the key card and drop off carryons has been the policy on all 3 ships.
