stleda124 Posted August 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2018 I already am thinking JS is the way to go but want to put it to the experts. The price to upgrade from OV Balcony to JS is $937. For whatever reason, the price to upgrade to W (guaranteed Suite) is $1987. Now obviously the JS is a guarantee and the W is a gamble. Would you gamble a $1000 for a chance at something higher? TIA Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Sent from my iPhone using Forums Not that for sure - maybe $100 - $200 depending on the length of the cruise. Other than double points really nothing you are getting other than a bigger bathroom and a bigger cabin.

Rare mac_tlc Posted August 11, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2018 I don’t know if the prices given are total (how many people ?) or per person. A $200 upgrade to a JS for 2 on a 7-day Cruise is a whopping $15 per person per day. I don’t think there are many of those around. To the OP’s original question, I would not do the guarantee —- you may end up with a JS anyway. If you are going to upgrade I would do the JS. mac_tlc Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jj1144 Posted August 11, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 11, 2018 If you can afford to upgrade to the Junior Suite do it! We sailed in a Jr. Suite on Independence of the Seas in March and it was beyond our expectations! Soooooo much room! Big balcony! Deep bathtub! Walk in closet (with door) big enough to be a small child's bedroom! Coffee maker in our room. Bed, Sofa plus a chair and ottoman I could go on and on. . . .we were a group of 11 sailing together for my Dad's 90th birthday and we could all congregate in our Junior Suite cabin at one time with no problem (and usually did!) I can't imagine needing anything better (though if they gave me a regular suite at no additional charge I suppose I would take it. Lol.) Oh, did I mention the 2 full size loungers plus table and two chairs on the balcony? HUGE!!!! DO IT!!!!!

Colorado Babe Posted August 11, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 11, 2018 We always book JS and our rule of thumb is that we are willing to pay no more than $200 per night per person (two of us) if it’s more than that, we won’t do it. If it’s less than that, SCORE! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

TIA Sent from my iPhone using Forums I, personally wouldn't gamble the $1000 when you may end up with a JS anyway-but, then again, if you don't gamble, you won't know for sure how it would end up? Also, with the JS you could pick your cabin/location. Likewise, only YOU can decide if you are comfortable spending more for your cruise and if the benefits outweigh the costs. Could be cruising time is very valuable to you and you want to make the most of each and every cruise you take-which could make cost less important to you. Not a bad thing. Others may enjoy a cruise more if they pay less than a certain amount for it. Not a bad thing either. You will find as many opinions on cruise costs/budgets as you will on cruise food and what to wear in the MDR. Isn't it nice that we all have options? Happy cruising and enjoy your cruise no matter your decision!

cb at sea Posted August 11, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 11, 2018 With a W, you still may only get a JS....I'd just book the JS for that price, if you want more spacious accommodations. Of course, you don't get the "suite perks" with a Js....
Cruisegirl6 Posted August 11, 2018 #24 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Not at all! That is nearly 1k not worth the JS and you have a decent balcony room so why waste that money, you can put that towards drink packages, shore excursions, specialty dining etc. If you are 4 people in the room then I would say yes for the extra room (walk in closet, much more dresser drawer space and larger room), then that would only make it over $200 per person then its worth it. Also, the bathroom in the JS has a tub so you have to get into this high tub to take a shower, would this bother you? If you have young children you may want the tub....just a few things to consider before making up your mind. If your only two people I would not spend that kind of money for an upgraded room....FYI, our past two cruises and upcoming one in October we have the JS the two of us don't even use 70% of the closet and 60% of the drawer space its a total waste but its a casino deal for us so of course we took it. Ours is a casino deal as well. We have paid this far. $190 in port fees and $588 for the balcony. This would be to upgrade to the JS. But like you mentioned, regardless the price is still almost $1000. I did call yesterday and a GS is $1407.
