"LIVE" From the Oasis of the Seas / March 6, 2010

Recommended Posts

I can't believe it's over already! :( (and I wasn't even there!)

Thanks, Radio, for doing this each vacation. We so love virtually cruising with you. Any chance you could do the Adventure of the Seas before April 2011 -- I'm pondering trying that one out!

Great pics -- I look forward to seeing the whole album.

...whatever your camera is...its a keeper...GREAT pics.

Frankly, the exterior of the Oasis OTS could not be described as beautiful; way too boxy...out of necessity I expect due to its size and passenger capacity.

But that is more than mitigated by the incredible interiors. It really is an awesome ship and I appreciate your efforts during your vacation to bring it to us in almost real time.

Safe Travels!

Mitch

Hi Radio,

Thanks again for the virtual cruise.........I love following your live posts. Are you going to post live from your Bermuda cruise in May? We'll be getting on the ship as you get off and we've never been to Bermuda so looking forward to your postings. Can't wait!! Thanks again........

Last year when we were on Freedom, Richard was the CD and the best!! Everyone loves him and his dry sense of humor..He told us that cruise that he would be leaving soon to be CD on Oasis. I hope he's there when we go in 3 weeks! Thanks again for all your posts and answering all of our questions.

Thank you, Radio. Your "Live" reports help all of us wait until our appointed time as we really feel like we are cruising with you. You also gave me pause to consider the Oasis as a vacation possibility.

Radio,

Do you have any pictures of the casino on the Oasis? Also, how big are the casinos on cruise ships? Are they the size of a decent banquet hall, or just small rooms with a few tables and slot machines?

Finally, what is this auto-train that you mention that takes you home overnight?

Thanks for the informative and interesting tour.

We haven't seen the casino on Oasis yet (next year, I hope), but except for the one on HAL's Zuiderdam, they're all pretty good sized rooms. We've never had a problem finding an open $.25 video poker machine. Now a nickel or penny slot (for me) -- that could be a problem. There are quite a few tables, too. And there are usually slot and blackjack tournaments, too.

The autotrain is a non-stop train that travels north and south between Lorton, Virginia (about 25 miles south of Washington, DC) and Sanford, Florida (about 30 miles northeast of Orlando). It leaves around 4:30 pm from either station and arrives at the next station at around 8:30 am the next morning. You're served dinner and breakfast; there are passenger cars and then special cars for vehicles. When we last traveled on it (in 2000) there was a lounge car where a PG movie was shown a couple of times a night. You only take onboard what you'll need for your overnight on the train. We've traveled about 5 or 6 times with our three daughters and would take books, games, small blankets and pillows. We've usually had snacks, too. There is no access to your car once you board. The train stops for a crew change in Florence, SC, and no passengers are allowed to leave. It's a fun trip, but flying directly from DC into Orlando can be less expensive now. You can find all the details at the Amtrak website.

Thank you, Radio, for your great report. We can't wait to book our next cruise, which we plan to do on Oasis, but we'll wait until after our next cruise. You always do a nice job. I remember meeting you on our 2005 Mariner cruise.

Radio, this is the first report of yours I've read. I came on here to research the Oasis, as my DDs saw a brochure I have on it - and are begging for me to take them. :)

I have to say your report and pictures were wonderful. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your trip. You really make it feel like being there, and it is a shame to see it come to an end.

Hello Radio........................thanks for the trip - - - - - we'll be on the Big O in October.

Auto-Train - - something we have been thinking about doing - just haven't "yet!"

If you get a chance, some pix of the train and interior would be great to finish up your thread, I'd love to see it, if you can.

Again, thanks,

Mr. Radio, thank you so much for posting this live review. My husband and I will be sailing on her in June and seeing your posts and pictures everday was a really big help in our waiting process.

Hopefully, you will do a live post for Bermuda. I will be looking for it. I have been wanting to cruise to Bermuda but my husband has heard not so good things about crossing the Atlantic. We are limited to the summer months since I am a teacher or spring breaks which usually occur in late March or sometime in April.

Have a safe trip home and once again thanks for taking time out of your vacation for so the rest of us could enjoy it also.

Radio has posted the auto-train pictures before. You might find it in his links. He has a treasure trove of pictures posted over the years.

Thank you so much for a great fantasy week for all of us in the real world! While I would love to cruise with you and Mrs. Radio sometime, I wouldn't want to miss one of your reports. I feel like it is an "extra" cruise for us... without the hit to our bank account! :D As tough as it is to leave the Oasis, sounds like you have just a short break before your next adventure. We wish you safe travels home with much gratitude for sharing an amazing week with us all!!
