The "new" Celebrity Secrets thread

Thanks for all the helpful tips and the laughs. :D

My DH are going on a cruise the end of September. I started a roll call and it is pretty active. But I have not been able to motivate the group to do some of the activities. For instance, some folks would like to do a cabin crawl. But I don't have enough folks willing to open up their cabin for it. :(

So, since we were lucky to have snagged an aft cabin with the HUGE balcony, we were thinking of having a PAR-TAY there.

Our plan is to invite folks to come, but to cut it off at a reasonable number. In other words, however many would fit on the balcony and not cause it to collapse.

My question to you folks is.....would we be able to get lots of snacks from room service for this party? We thought we might just ask folks to bring their own drink(s). And if we could get some room service snacks we would tip the attendant well. It sure would work out better than us trying to collect food from the buffet and bring it back to the room. :o

Has anyone done this before? And, if so, do you have any suggestions for us? ;)

I remember hearing about a couple who had a party in one of the big suites. And I think they were able to get some snacks from room service. But it was so long ago and my memory of it has faded.

Hope to hear from you all with some suggestions. :)

Thanks!

GiGiAnn

We recently served breakfast for 8 in our cabin. Just order what you want and tip the server when he brings the food. What class are you in on the Aft. If it is CC or Sky Suite you should have no problem.

Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid it is neither CC or Sky Suite. Just a FV cabin on the end with the balcony that is 5 times the regular size.

Celebrity provides services for Rosh Hashanah and Friday night. The services will be led by a Cantor. Everyone is welcome to the services. Watch for the time and location in the daily activity listings.

Anyone interested?

We were guests at a par-tay, which is exactly what she called it, on a FV balcony. It was lovely! We were invited to bring our lunch from the buffet or just bring ourselves, and sure, you can ask folks to bring their own beverage.

Our hostess had a big cheese and crackers platter and a gorgeous bunch of shrimp. A few of us on the same deck, aft, brought our deck chairs. The steward was most helpful to the hostess. Mr. B. and I actually attended with no plan to eat lunch; we often have a late lunch. The socializing was the most important part, and it was truly lovely. My recollection is there were seven or eight or nine or ten couples. Great cabin and fabulous balcony! with such happy personalities. Enjoy!!

Over recent time, I have found new 'secrets' on this thread.

BUT...no one has posted about the ship photos - which are copyright material - and if you decide to have a ship photo copied to have a second copy, most photo copy shops will refuse (but sometimes they do not check).

However, at the noted web site, you simply get a free copyright release and then you can make as many copies as you wish on-shore. (The multiple prints option on the ship makes them VERY expensive!!).

We have had 2 gigantic FVs on the M Class ships. Each time we hosted sail away parties.

I asked the cabin attendant for cheese plates and such. But also stopped into the buffet at tea time and picked up little sandwiches and desserts.

Everyone brought their own alcoholic beverages.

Lots of fun:D

You can bring aboard your own soft drinks and bottled water. Stop in at a store on the way to the cruiseport to buy some twelve packs or so-- you don't want to try lugging them with you on a plane because of the weight and because of what might happen in a depressurized cargo hold. Bring a roll of duct tape with you and tape the cases together, then put a luggage tag on it. It will be delivered to your cabin for you.

Have your cabin steward clear out the mini fridge so you can keep your soft drinks and water cool (not cold). Put what will fit into the fridge and store the rest under the bed until you need to replenish.

Celebrity won't confiscate the sodas? That's fabulous!

Hi we have just come off Rome Venice. We had a very active roll call of over 100 but once the sail away par-tay was over and the meet and greet Clebrity put it collapsed. Hope you have more luck. Very disappointung. Wanted a pub crawl, slot pull cabin crawl and Olympic themed night for the Olympics that are on at the moment. We did a gift exchange and that was a flop too.Seems we should have sailed with you in ept lol!!! Make sure you dont miss the sea day brunch its kept very quiet and uf in Aqua you have to ask for the slippers too Enjoy Luz

Hi weve just done Silhouette Rome Venice. We had over a 100 active roll call but once the sailaway par-tay was over and the meet and greet where Celebrity supplied nibbles and tea and coffee it collapsed. Very disapointing. Hope you have more luck. Wanted a pub crawl, cabin crawl, slot pull gift exchange.Seems we should have sailed Sept lol!!! Also to those in Aqua class you have to ask for the slippers and the sea day brunch time and venue is kept very quiet too. cheers Liz Tasmania

I stumbled on this thread! I have gained a great deal of information! About the cooler, canape delivery, sweets in the cafe and thank you so much for touching on the insulin information! I travel a lot but am not diabetic! Many friends are always asking for advise about medical issues. I am so glad the information about insulin was here! Keep up the good work!

Many people are new to Celebrity and are diabetic!

It started with a comment about the refrigerators not being cold enough for insulin and morphed from there. Sort of the same way room service delivery of appetizers morphed into cheese than morphed into a disdain for soggy crackers.

A valuable tool on the site allows a search by keyword. You can find info about almost anything that way. If we started a new thread for every single topic, it would get out of control.

Perhaps requesting anchovies for a ceasar salad should have started a new thread.

Those discussions or any discussion never bothers me. I learn something everytime, especially about anchovies and shabbas service.

Not a big deal, just my humble opinion. As for diabetics, there are diabetic specific websites that deal with this subject more comprehensibly.

We just got back from E. Med. on the Silhouette and had a Guar. Suite S1. Your butler will do ANYTHING you want. We loved afternoon tea in our room and goodies and every morning ordered grilled asperagus, fresh squeezed oj which is $4 if you order it anywhere else, and bowls of fresh berries. We also asked on other days for just berries around tea time. I have food sensitivities and our butler took my list directly to Murano and Tuscan Grill himself and I was very happy.

I guess it's not clear to me why you feel you need a lot of people to do a cabin crawl. If you have whatever number who are willing to show their cabins, you have enough for a cabin crawl. Just limit it to those who are willing to show their cabins. This is more of an educational event than a social event anyway. Absolutely the best way to learn about cabins. So go for it, whatever the number!

OK! I meant deck chair! If you want another laugh I lost a pair of panties that blew away. The next day I overheard a couple laughing about the panties they found on their deck. Better use those clothes pins!

This has to be one of the funniest things I've read! I almost spewed my drink all over the computer screen.....:p:D

Something else to add to the already long list.

If you are not Aqua Class and really want to indulge in the Persian Garden experience, you can buy a half price pass for the cruise on Embarkation Day.

So for a 13 day cruise like we are about to do, that is $75 for the pass.

You get them at the Spa Desk, on sale that one day only. That is $6 day, can't beat that. Steam, Sauna and relax on the heated chairs watching the world go by.

We will be on the Solstice next June to Alaska, do they offer this to all, we are booked in a CC and for $6.00 a day it sounds wonderful. There is also a pool into the spa I believe, can you use that also?

Thanks great tips, love the knowledge from everyone. This is our first Celebrity cruise.

I'm in my first suite for my next cruise an have a butler. Will he bring us cheese instead of canapes?

 On the Silhouette in March we requested (in a sky suite) cheese, shrimp cocktails and fruit and received them every day at 4 PM . We only had to request them once.

I know there have been questions here about whether one could exchange the complimentary champagne (ugh cheap) provided in AQ and Concierge class cabins for a red or white wine. We asked our stateroom attendant to do that immediately upon embarkation and it was done pronto. She brought us a decent Chilean chardonnay (it retails for probably about $12 in Ohio).

As well, since I had booked with my AmEx platinum card we were told that we would receive a premium bottle of champagne. I was delighted, when instead of the champagne, there was this notice in the room:

img005.jpg

I called and ordered a bottle of Cakebread chardonnay (one of my favs) and we took it to the MDR, where of course, there was no corkage fee since it was provided by Celebrity (and AmEx).

Also, of note, even though the above notice stated that we received a $70 shipboard credit valid for only specialty dining, I saw that the credit was posted to our account on the second day. I asked at the front desk if it had to be used for specialty dining, and she told me that as soon as it is posted to the account, it can be used for anything (other than the casino).

We also received a 2 category upgrade via the AmEx Platinum program. Caution: Don't just depend on your TA to know and offer these things. Always do your own research and know what each program offers.

And finally, the above was a copy and paste from a thread I started a while back following a Solstice cruise. Here is the actual thread with some questions and answers about the AmEx Platinum benefits.

Does the platinum AMEX card have to be used for the deposit and final payment? I made the deposit with a VISA card, but could make final payment with the AMEX card if I would be eligible for these benefits.

Thanks!

darsura, the key is that you must have your TA book it via the AmEx platinum benefits system (see the link above that discusses this).

I don't know if it matters that you made your deposit with another card, but I would think even if it does, since you are within final payment, your TA should easily be able to cancel and rebook with your AmEx Platinum card.

You cannot personally book through Celebrity and get the AmEx platinum benefits. That I do know. Plus, why would you ever, when a good TA will give you added benefits that you otherwise wouldn't get.

Thanks for your help. I will check with my TA. I would not want to cancel and rebook because I received an OBC from Captain's Club when 2013 itineraries were released which I would then lose. I believe that that OBC is combinable with another, and if I could still qualify for the AMEX benefits, that would be great.

Thank you for the tip. Now here's the challenge, how to find a TA that's as helpful as yours, I am positive that ours knows nothing we are always chasing them for info even though they are supposed to be a preferred Celebrity agent!!

I love this thread, as a first time cruiser I have learned a lot, thank you all.
