1sttimecruiser1973 Posted October 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Just a quick question... as I am a first time cruiser, is the Vicking Crouwn Lounge is open to everybody or just for certain people (like the Diamond Lounge)? Thanks so much and Happy Sunday
BND Posted October 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2012 It's open to everyone, unless there's a special or private event going on and that's usually only in a part of it.

Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted October 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2012 You will want to seek out the /vc lounge often. it is a great place to watch the ship sail away from port. (nice high view) During the day it is relatively quiet and I enjoy reading there on sea days. The bar usually opens around 5pm. Until then it is not used much. (there may be a few activities--but, there are tables right by the windows you can use unless it is a private function)
ChipLondon Posted October 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Open doors, and one of the nicest places for early evening cocktails on most of the ships.
wallypbear Posted October 7, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Everyone is welcome to enjoy the lovely ambiance of the Viking Crown Lounge. I am sure it will become a favorite spot on board for you as it is hands down, absolutely, the most ultimate lounge anywhere on the high seas. Langley Cruisers Posted October 7, 2012 #10 Share Posted October 7, 2012 The VCL is absolutely glorious early in the morning. I love to go there and read, while DH does his own thing for a few hours. We meet up later. Bar service can start around 11 am I've noticed, but check the Cruise Compass for bar hours. It gets crowded quickly after that. Enjoy your first cruise! :)

dchillis Posted October 7, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 7, 2012 With out creating a big spat. I saw in a post that there is a smoking section in the VCL (maybe its only on certain RccL ships) is this true. If it is true is FOS on of them? Janice M Posted October 7, 2012 #15 Share Posted October 7, 2012 we'll second that!!! *** I'll agree too. One of my favorite areas of the ship on sea days. Also the promonade deck (outside deck 4 0r 5) is nice. Jan

Smoking on RccL ships seem to change by cruise, before I saw this answer I read that back in May people reported that you could. Strange
gandkinFL Posted October 7, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 7, 2012 We were just off Freedom a week ago and smoking was allowed in the lounge. We were in there for our Meet and Mingle and even though no one was smoking at the time I could still smell the smoke. It is a great place to go if you want a quiet place to watch the ocean and/or read during the day. Another time we were in there in the afternoon and and two men were sitting at a table smoking. loubetti Posted October 7, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 7, 2012 A little trivia: When RCI sold off their first two ships, Song of Norway and Nordic Prince part of the sales contract required removal of the Viking Crown Lounge. This did not occur with later ships being sold however, such as Sun Viking and Song of America. Here is Nordic Prince, as "Ocean Star Pacific". Song of Norway, now "Ocean Pearl". She has been since sold to China as a floating Casino:
mus1cals Posted October 7, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 7, 2012 On the Independence in August the Viking lounge was for over 18's only. Before it used to be for all until 10 p.m. when children were then excluded. I was disappointed as we could not go to the lounge. If the children are well behaved I cannot see any problem. If they are not well behaved it is up to the staff to request they leave.
SevenWonkas Posted October 7, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 7, 2012 We love going to the Viking Crown Lounge during the day to read and enjoy the views! It's typically very quiet, and usually empty! Sometimes we encounter a handful of other people reading or playing cards. I remember a few cruises had this a designated "quiet spot" during certain hours of the day. We went up there one cruise, and a few ladies came up and started having a loud dance party (all to themselves). When they didn't stop, we kindly asked them to leave and referred them to the sign at the entrance notifying people of the quiet hours. They left with no complaints. :)

ninnau Posted October 8, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 8, 2012 Yes, I can remember that on my two cruises on Nordic Prince. Back then we were more formal, and I remember climbing those stairs and trying to hold my long dress down because of the wind. I like the way it is now but it was fun then.
