Hi All,

I know majority of us love the stop in Labadee for the day. I got to thinking, wouldn't it be great if RCI considered an overnight there and we could enjoy 2 full days on the island. They could have entertainment at night on the island in a certain area and possibly a buffet. Just some of my thoughts. What do you think? Happy Cruising!

Don't think it would ever happen because of the risk of malaria. Mosquitos like to come out around dusk, if you notice, the ships get out of there usually around 4pm.

Never thought of that . Would just be great to enjoy Labadee for 2 days. Thanks!

I'd rather have an extra sea day instead of an extra beach day. If I want a beach vacation, I'll go to a beach for a week. I want a CRUISE vacation... put me on the boat, baby!

Not sure I understand. If you would not want another beach day, simply stay on the ship!

But that's not "cruising" -- that's "piering".

I wanna be in the middle of the ocean, waves everywhere, fish and dolphins swimming alongside, with the ship gently rocking and lulling me to sleep.... :D

And people out and about and the casino and shops open instead of the ship being like a ghost town.

Totally with you on that. Im not a beach person. I cruise to CRUISE. I wouldnt care if the ship didnt stop anywhere but thats just me :)

Guess I am in the minority, I would not mind an overnight stay at Labadee at all. Once they include off ship activities like beach party, BBq's etc. You can even have an early morning swim in the lovely Caribbean sea before breakfast.

As others have said I dont see it ever happening and I think safety will be the main reason. Can you imagine drunks swimming all over the peninsular (labadee is not an island) at all hours of night

While you may be correct don't forget that there is an RCI crew that is based there - as there is on CocoCay - on a rotating, but permanent, basis. There is a residence complex just passed the straw market backside wall that houses this crew. The Haitian workers live locally - there is a fairly large city called Cap-Hatien that is about 5 miles away. The complex on CocoCay is mid-island.

I actually didn't enjoy Labadee at all, and although I haven't been there, I am guessing I'd feel the same way about CocoCay.

I like to have an actual city to visit or a sea day, not just a small beach resort.

Labadee does have a malaria warning on the US Travel site for mosquitoes. Those living there probably get malaria vaccines.

I'd love to stay overnight, but I don't have to either. Makes no difference to me in the end.

Who is forgetting about the crew? The cruiseline would not have people living at Labadee or Coco Cay unless their vaccines were up to date. The thousands of people on the ship are not required to get a malaria vaccine.

Provided it was safe, I think it would be awesome! I love Labadee - one of my favorite ports in the Caribbean. (It would be preferable to the overnights we've done at Nassau.)

I'm with you. They could sail ten miles out and drop anchor and I'd be perfectly content. Usually just get off the ship to appease DH. I've got a really busy life, so to sit by the pool or on the balcony and read or have a few drinks at a bar or play for a while in the casino is heaven for me.

I've mentioned that to my wife several times. We always get off the ship at Labadee as early as possible and we are usually in the last groups to head back to the ship. I'd be fine with 2 days.

Do you really feel that being tied up to a pier is the same as cruising? If so then I suppose the ships could all just stay tied up in Ft. Lauderdale for the week.

There are no vaccines for malaria. People going to endemic areas take prophilactic oral medication to help protect them from aquiring the disease.

I would not book any cruise that was spending two days in Labadee. I try to avoid cruises that spend any days in Labadee. I'd much rather be in a port where I have the option to travel around and people who want to go to the beach have the option to do so. If I want to go hang at the beach I will go for a walk down the street.

You are correct. Just meant that with whatever crew is there the risk - mitigated in the manner you mentioned - must be minimal or they wouldn't keep them there. Not the best choice of words on my part.
