I didn't think it was just the US. I don't think the casino is open when we dock at Labadee. Maybe someone on the roll call will chime in...

At many caribbean ports, the casino can open early evening, even if the ship is still in port. As an example, when the ship is docked in Nassau until 11Pm, the casino opens around 7 or 8 PM.

I am told that the casino can now open in the evenings when the ship is docked in Bermuda .

Don't know Jamaica rules and don't recall casino hours when docked there.

Well we are on this cruise with the overnight in Labadee. When the cruise was booked, the over night was suppose to be in Puerto Rico, but they said it was a mistake and the overnight was meant to be in Labadee. We have called RCCL and they don't know of any plans on the island when we arrive.

I guess we will find out soon enough.

I agree. I love labadee, but that itinerary sucks.

And I see a problem with an overnight in Labadee. Over 4000 people on a dark beach in Haiti with rocky cliffs, no lighting, lots of booze, and surrounded by the poorest people in the western hemisphere?

Someone on either this thread or another mentioned they might not be able to get off the ship on day 1 and I can see that as a definite possibility.

Am I reading this correctly?

An evening in San Juan and basically a day in labadee for an 8 night cruise? I guess the ship is the destination.

I can't imagine there is enough to do on that ship for that many days with only 2 ports. Probably why I am not going.

I enjoyed Labadee, for one day, when I went there. However, that was before they added the roller coaster and other amenities. To be honest, I much prefer "real" ports to the private islands. These cruise line resorts, while nice, are sort of like the Caribbean as created by Disney World. I prefer the less developed ports, where I can enjoy the natural beauty of the island. (Dominica springs to mind.) The private islands are basically beach resorts, and while there is nothing wrong with a beach resort, they are all pretty similar.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just to let you know the mosquitoes in the Caribbean come out during the day I was bit by one on Labadee while I was on the water in a cabana. Luckily I did not get that new disease that they carry.

Don't think it would ever happen because of the risk of malaria. Mosquitos like to come out around dusk, if you notice, the ships get out of there usually around 4pm.
