Yoyo123 Posted June 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2013 lol I know it's a dumb question but I want to know if do you walk all the way from cabins to pool deck on bikinis or you dress up at the pol deck?
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2013 You need to have some kind of a cover-up. There are kinds of nice cover-ups for women in the stores -- all price ranges. Or you can just put on a pair of shorts and some kind of a top. Men just put on shorts and t-shirts.
CruiserBruce Posted June 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Hmmmm.... never seen any indication you need a cover up. Most cruise lines say something about covering swimsuits in the eating areas, or no swimsuits in those areas. But have never seen any requirement for cover up walking from cabin to pool. paul929207 Posted June 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Yes, you should wear a cover up when not at the pool. This includes going to and from your cabin, also going to any public room including restaurants
cb at sea Posted June 24, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2013 You don't HAVE to "cover up", but most do. Throw a tee shirt or shorts over your suit...or get a swimsuit cover-up! No need to completely change clothes at the pool!
serene56 Posted June 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2013 I agree- you dont have to-- there is no rule there against it. But with no coverup you will not be allowed in to the eating venues. and walking from the cabin to the pools can get long
sparky-elpaso Posted June 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Think of your cabin as your house or apartment and the hallways and public areas as streets. Most ladies wear a cover-up of some kind and guys would wear a t-shirt and maybe shorts (depending on their swimsuit style).
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 24, 2013 In general many women do we a coverup even if it is not required. Keith

Rare Scrapnana Posted June 24, 2013 #11 Share Posted June 24, 2013 It may not be a "rule" but I did not see anybody leave the pool area without a cover-up on my last cruise.

ducklite Posted June 24, 2013 #13 Share Posted June 24, 2013 As my mother often told me: Just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you should. While there might not be a rule about covering up a bathing suit when not on the pool deck, it's just good manners to do so.
Wayfairers Posted June 24, 2013 #14 Share Posted June 24, 2013 I'm in agreement that a coverup isn't required. Social convention is that you wear a coverup, and almost all do. However, if you prefer to walk around in your bathing suit, I believe that is your call. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

FoghornLeghorn Posted June 24, 2013 #16 Share Posted June 24, 2013 At first I thought, yes...please put on a cover up, that would be proper :) Then after I thought about it.... IF I had the body to actually wear a bikini, I would probably walk, or skip, to the pool without a cover up :) (don't be frightened, it'll never happen) :D
Rare BlueRiband Posted June 25, 2013 #17 Share Posted June 25, 2013 Bathing attire is for bathing areas whether you are on a ship or on a land based resort. Really, how hard is it to throw on a shirt over a swim suit? I'm sure there is already something in your closet that will work just fine.
MSN-Travelers Posted June 25, 2013 #18 Share Posted June 25, 2013 lol I know it's a dumb question but I want to know if do you walk all the way from cabins to pool deck on bikinis or you dress up at the pol deck? I think we are too wrapped up in American modesty values for most of the posts here. The OP is from South Africa, is booked on a European cruise line and they have a different view of displaying the body. (Quite frankly I had never heard of the MSC line and was surprised to find they are the fourth largest in the world.) I would suggest taking some sort of cover-up and waiting to see what your fellow passengers are doing.
luddite Posted June 25, 2013 #19 Share Posted June 25, 2013 I must admit that when I walk with bikinis my wife gets a mite .... perturbed.

cheeseburger.in.paradise Posted July 1, 2013 #22 Share Posted July 1, 2013 As there is no rule against it, you can wear a cover up, or not. But obviously, as shown by the comments, you will be judged negatively if you do not. Its your vacation, your money, do what YOU want.
RSLeesburg Posted July 2, 2013 #23 Share Posted July 2, 2013 I remember once in Europe I watched a woman change into her bikini right beside the pool (not on a cruise), just local pool. I was quite shocked, but did not mind the show
navybankerteacher Posted July 3, 2013 #24 Share Posted July 3, 2013 Virtually everybody wears some sort of over up from cabin to pool - there is no rule, but there are long passage ways, most likely an elevator ride, and - depending on the ship, the layout of the Lido deck, and the elevator you take, you may have to pass through the eating area -- where cover-ups are required. Also, you don't want to do it in bare feet, even though there is no law about that either.
Trolleydolly80 Posted July 3, 2013 #25 Share Posted July 3, 2013 I know what you mean. Like do you have to go to great lengths to dress up or can you just go in your bikini or just throw on a sundress. I'm on my first cruise in September & worried I may be a little underdressed. I.e too casual. but I suppose it does depend on the cruise line & the days activities. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
