javafriend Posted January 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2014 DH and I were recently on a cruise. I noticed a fellow cruiser wearing a shirt stating "I am a member of cruisecritic.com and I am taking notes". To me, the "taking notes" part is offensive and comes across as threatening. My DH said to him it is like they were trying to get better service. The cruise line we were on is very responsive to cruisecritic, always a gracious Host for meet and greets. I would like to hear other's opinion on this or similar wear. Is it all innocent fun or is there deeper intent? Lisa
luddite Posted January 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2014 C'mon. Be serious. This cannot be an issue worthy of a frown-face.
javafriend Posted January 22, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 22, 2014 To me, it is worthy of a frowns face because to me, it makes members of cruise critic look bad.
MCC retired Posted January 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Innocent Fun , ease up . Most onboard don't know what CC is or even care .
Ashland Posted January 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2014 The wearer of the shirt was probably doing it in fun...but not something I would ever even consider wearing or have anyone with me to wear...I tend to not want or need attention drawn to me... Most "real" critics want anonymity ;):)
crystalspin Posted January 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Agree with Ashland. (snip -- almost guilty of derailing, sorry!) Although, unless the shirt was sold in the CC gift shop, the PTB may not feel so charitable. Edited January 22, 2014 by crystalspin
LrgPizza Posted January 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I kind of agree with the OP. I might be embarrassed to wear that shirt. **sorry** Maybe I am taking it wrong, but I guess I can't see any other meaning behind the message it displays. Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I wouldn't think it offensive. It seems to me like someone poking fun at a stereotype (everyone thinks that "us CC'ers" just walk around looking for things to complain about). Then again, since someone is complaining about this, perhaps "they" are right.... ;)
boulders Posted January 22, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Most cruisers don't know about Cruise Critic. So, is the saying on the shirt the way we want to introduce Cruise Critic?
Karysa Posted January 22, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) I have read many posters commenting that one of the main reasons for going to the meet n greet is to meet the senior crew members so they know who to be nice to. I think the staff will actually think the shirt is funny because it really is kinda true. Might as well own it I guess! I will pass though, I look better in dresses:) Edited January 22, 2014 by Karysa Added s
Sue Do-Over Posted January 22, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 22, 2014 The cabin crawl signs on our last trip confused a neighboring passenger -- she asked if we wanted her feedback for our 'article' -- as if we ran a newspaper or something. Lerin Posted January 22, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I took it to mean the shirt wearer was taking notes on other passengers, like checking to see no one came to the buffet in their bathrobe. Regardless, I find it slightly comical.
Karysa Posted January 22, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2014 This is strange to me. Where are all the opinions on this one? I thought that this thread being about cc and cruises and cruisers after all would prove to be a very interesting read.
Aquahound Posted January 22, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I would have just rolled my eyes at this person for actually taking the time to have that stupid shirt made. But as the week went on, the devil in me would have been finding ways to mess with them. ;)
houstoncruisers2001 Posted January 22, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I noticed a fellow cruiser wearing a shirt stating "I am a member of cruisecritic.com and I am taking notes". Taking notes? These notes?
wwcruisers Posted January 22, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 22, 2014 This is strange to me. Where are all the opinions on this one? I thought that this thread being about cc and cruises and cruisers after all would prove to be a very interesting read. Well, one thing I've noticed, over the years -- the crew does pay attention to t-shirts. We usually wear t-shirts from previous cruises, and it never fails that a crew member will say "Oh, I was on that ship, back in ...." However, my CruiseCritic door sign usually just draws questions like, "what's Cruise Critic?" from passengers and crew alike. So, as important as we all think we are in the cruising universe, CC is apparently just a blip on the radar screen! ;)
slidergirl Posted January 22, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) I equate it to the people who make reservations at my hotel and add a note in the comment section that they are a "Senior Contributor" to TripAdvisor - you're trying to weasel some perks... mr green Posted January 22, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I have read that when visiting some ports, if a store clerk finds that he, or she is dealing with a person from Cruise Critic, better service is normally given. john
sherryf Posted January 22, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I think it's amusing, but perhaps they should have included a smiley :);):D so people knew they were joking.
Langley Cruisers Posted January 22, 2014 #22 Share Posted January 22, 2014 ^ But maybe s/he wasn't joking so much. Perhaps gathering information for a review? I don't know. OP, sorry you were offended by this. Umm... when you said it makes other CC members look bad.... trust me, some members can look bad all by themselves without help! Bwahahaha!! j/k . polySeraph Posted January 22, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) I think it would depend on the motivation of the person wearing the shirt and motive can a be tricky thing to determine. The vast majority of folks I've met through Cruise Critic are lovely people and if I were to see any of them wearing a shirt like that, I'd shrug it off as quirky personal taste. Otoh, I have met one or two that really would wear that shirt in hopes of getting a better experience. Karysa Posted January 22, 2014 #24 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Hey cc mods what about a study as to how being known as a "cc'er" by all you meet affects your cruise? You can secretly ask one couple from the roll call ( lets say they agree) outfit them with cc t-shirts, luggage tags and hats and a cc door sign and have them attend the meet n greet while wearing the t-shirt and then ask them to describe the service and treatment that they received on the cruise and at the ports. You can then ask 10 random couples coming off of the cruise the same questions. This would make for an interesting read. If you did this on 5 ships during the same week it would be even better.:) Edited January 22, 2014 by Karysa
