oysteroftheseas Posted May 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2014 Our 2nd cruise, but the first one ever that we are planning. We've been together for 12 years and have never vacationed ALONE together. We are debating between Vision of the Seas (5days) or Oasis of the Seas (7days). I know they're completely different ships but I have a feeling I would get bored on Vision of the Seas very easily. Our first cruise we went on grandeur of the seas.. it was great but we are afraid that Vision of the Seas would just be a repeat of that ship. Let me know your thoughts below :) I feel so overwhelmed! P.S. is it true that sometimes they upgrade your room?
janetz Posted May 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2014 Oasis Of The Seas is also a destination. :D The shows are just great and there is so much to do. I would do the 7 day vs. a 5 anyways.
Rare Keith1010 Posted May 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2014 I would definitely go with Oasis Of The Seas. Keith
OCruisers Posted May 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2014 Oasis is a floating resort but in a good way! You won't get bored on that ship! :D LuLu

oysteroftheseas Posted May 25, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted May 25, 2014 What about kids? Are there a lot of kids on the oasis? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
jamessemaj Posted May 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2014 You don't say when you are going, but if it is in the summer, both will have lots of kids. Also places to escape them if that is what you want. When schools are out, cruises have families with kids and those ships have attractions for that demographic. oysteroftheseas Posted May 25, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted May 25, 2014 August 16 is the oasis one! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
OCruisers Posted May 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 25, 2014 August 16 is the oasis one! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk There'll be quite a few children ... but, Oasis is big and it's unlikely they will want to be in the places you'll enjoy going. In the summer there will be children of either of the ships of interest to you. LuLu
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 25, 2014 7 days is way better than 5 days. And Oasis has much more to offer.

celebrity Posted May 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 25, 2014 Nothing against the big girls as I have never sailed on them but have you considered So Caribbean out of Puerto Rico? To me, that is the ideal itinerary for active people. The ports are much better than Eastern Or Western in my opinion.

DonnaK Posted May 26, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) Everyone needs to try Oasis at least once. The entertainment options on that ship are incredible! The neighborhood concept really scattered the people well, so the ship never feels crowded. And, RCI does a great job of keeping the kids positively occupied, especially on the larger ships, so they aren't usually an issue. Vision is too small and old for my tastes. olemissreb Posted May 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Not knowing the itineraries, I'd go Oasis simply because it's a 7 day cruise. I've never cruised less than 7 days - don't know if I can!:)
big al Posted May 29, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 29, 2014 I agree with DonnaK....Vision & Grandeur are sister ships and are waaaayyy too old & small for today's cruisers who like OPTIONS..there are virtually no options on the Vision...Oasis is big, yes, big with options, shows, restaurants, pools, hot tubs ( just the canti-levered hot tubs in the Adult Solarium are worth it alone!), shows, Royal Promenade, Central Park ( my fav, especially at night),Zip-line, Flowrider, ice -skating shows, Diving shows in Aqua Theater ( best at sea, IMO)...you get NONE of this on the Vision...if you want QUIET, and wish to read, chill out, virtually do NOTHING for 7 days, go on the Vision...if you want adventure, OPTIONS, and walk around with your jaw dropping and say, "WOW!"...try the Oasis...honestly, even if you HATE big ships, it's still a no brainer for someone who thinks they will be bored..I went on the Enchantment in 2008 , a slightly larger version of the Vision, and although she was nice, my DW & I were sooo bored- no ice show,no Royal Promenade, no diving show, no central park, no Adult Pool area ( very cool!), no Flowrider, no 70's Retro disco party, no Boardwalk area...it's comparing a Best Western to the Bellagio in Vegas...Just MHO... Extra Kim Posted May 29, 2014 #19 Share Posted May 29, 2014 (edited) I would say that the port of call is what you should look at first. I have been on Allure (west caribbean), Serenade (east/south caribbean) and NCL Epic (west med). Best ship of those: Epic, hands down. Better food, better pools with slides, better shows (Blue man group!!) Best cruise over all: Serenade. A nice ship with nice ports of call. One thing that I missed on Allure was more ports of call, 3 in a week isn´t enough even if the ship is big and has a lot of things to offer. If Allure would have done the same itinerarie, it would have beaten Serenade. Our next cruise will be on Legend, it will be a bigger difference in the size compared to Allure but I know that the ports of call will make up for that. SuiteTraveler Posted May 29, 2014 #20 Share Posted May 29, 2014 I would recommend: Oasis of the Seas or Allure of the Seas BUT If you want (and can afford a more unique cabin) and want a much more upscale experience, I would recommend NCL EPIC The Haven Spa Suite - not mini-suite, The Haven Spa Suite which gives you full access to the Spa facilities plus full access to The Haven. The suite is very unusual with a round bed, in-room hot tub, large balcony, special large shower and butler service. You get to have breakfast and lunch at the Epic Club and also get free concierge service. This suite is really terrific and it is very different from anything found on any other ship. I will warn you that you will be very spoiled! Here are the pictures: http://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/epic/staterooms/2/spa#tab_detail The reason I recommend the Epic is that the entertainment is fantastic, there is stuff to do constantly and, if you have a The Haven Spa Suite, you can go in the Spa area - sauna, steam room, thalisotherapy pool, heated loungers and jetted spa everyday- which is a fantastic perk. My husband who is NOT a spa kind of guy, went with me - after me trying to get him to go for 3 days and once he went, he wanted to go everyday! Then there is The Haven - which, is fantastic. There are many different restaurants on this ship which cost a bit extra, but are well worth it - I just plan the extra expense into my budget beforehand. There is also an ice bar, the largest casino I've ever seen on a ship. There is a Blue Man Group show and a Cirque du Soleil show as well as comedy shows. There is an Irish Pub, Sushi Bar, Chinese Place, Noodle bar, Teppanyaki place, French restaurant, Churrascaria, Steak House, Italian restaurant, as well as the largest buffet I've ever seen on a cruise ship. There are too many bars to mention and a full scale water park and sports court. There is so much to do and see, you cannot do it all in a week. I've been on Oasis and it has many of the same features and we really enjoyed it, but if my choice was a balcony on Oasis or a The Haven Spa Suite on NCL (and sometimes the prices are very close for the two), I'd go with The Haven Spa Suite on NCL. Btw, The Haven Spa Suite also has a DVD player - so you can bring along movies or TV shows you have wanted to watch but never had the chance to see, if you want. The Haven Spa Suites have large balcony's with lounge chairs.
Aquahound Posted May 29, 2014 #21 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Without a doubt, go for the Oasis. Oasis Class is unlike any other ships at sea, Oasis has arguably the best entertainment at sea, and since you've already been on a ship like Vision, it's time to step up. The production of Hairspray is every bit as good as Broadway and at the end, you'll be on your feet dancing. The Aqua Theater show is unique to Oasis and the excellent ice show is not offered on Vision. Plus, there are live bands all over the ship and a ton of activities.
