Is this flight possible?

Recommended Posts

Liberty of Seas over Thanksgiving says is gets back to port at 7am (is that normally accurate?) and the flight from Ft Lauderdale leaves at 8:40:confused:

I would not even consider a flight that early.

No, that flight is not possible at all, even if you are the very first person walking off the ship carrying your own baggage.

The terminal that Liberty uses is not very efficient, and backups getting off the ship are a common complaint.

That flight time is way too early. We have made a flight of 9:50 off Oasis once (which is a very efficient terminal) but typically would not book anything before 10:30 - 11:00 earliest.

Even if you were to get off the ship at 7:00, you have to factor time for customs and luggage retrieval, transportation to the airport, airport check in and security lines plus minimum gate time.

Do not book that flight.

That's what I figured:( Thanks everyone

This link might help What is the latest arrival time to reserve a flight before the cruise, or the earliest departure time to reserve a flight after the cruise in order to make port/airport connections on time?

Give it a few more hours and you will have lots of responses telling you that they have booked flights at 7am and got there with time to spare.

It may be, but what stress about it. Also, DYI, airports around the holidays almost always have huge lines getting through TSA. So you might make it to the airport then miss the flight because you have a two hour line getting through security trying to take home a gallon of their favorite gravy and refusing to toss it.

That may be true, but there is a big difference between Oasis/Allure disembarkation, and that of Liberty. For whatever reason, the disembarkation from Liberty is much slower than Oasis/Allure or Indy at Port Everglades.

Agreed. Plus, Oasis/Allure arrive at the port earlier, and start self-disembarkation by 6am or so.

I would only risk an early flight with these two ships.

Thanks everyone. it stinks because it is the only flight flying into Providence that day via Jet Blue, which we have a $800 credit with. Guess we will just have to fly into Boston

Jetblue flies into Worcester now too. Might be worth looking at that option too.

To reiterate what dadroy said, please factor in 2 hours to clear security at FLL unless you are Pre-Check or similar. Hate to be harsh, but in our experience, FLL poorly manages holiday crowds!

FLL poorly manages security on a routine basis, let alone one of the busiest travel weekends in the year. FLL is my least favorite airport in the US.

I would not attempt this on the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Spend a night at FLL. Leisurely disembarkation, leisurely day, take the flight the next morning.

Possible? Yes... But you'd be more than stressed the entire adventure.

What airline? We flew Delta off the Oasis a week ago. Stepped foot off the ship at 7:15, got through CBP at 8, was at the airport by 8:15 and were at our gate by 8:45. They start letting people off the ship at 6:30, so sure, you could make it. But everything has to break right.

We had Pre-Check, which allows you to essentially bypass the TSA line. We also did online check-in through our phones, and got lucky to be 3rd in line to check bags curbside at the terminal. We also walked right up to a cab and drove off and didn't hit any traffic whatsoever. And also remember, your flight might be at 8:40, but they will start boarding at 8:20 and will try to have the gate closed at exactly 8:40.
