Sweet sorrow

We were getting ready to depart the ship on the last day of our cruise a few weeks ago. DW was packing the bags and I was plotting to bolt the Friday elevator rugs down so Saturday wouldn't official arrive. At 9:20 the phone rang. I had just won the 7 day Caribbean Cruise.

We had three times the luck that week. Our flight was full, so we were given a voucher for taking a later flight. We flew in the day before, so we were flexible. One of the ports was cancelled so we also got future cruise credit.

I almost made money on that trip. I'm considering quitting my day job and going into cruising for a living.;)

We don't play the lotteries, but could you suggest some numbers for the next Powerball drawing?? :)

Congratulations on your free cruise!!

Congratulations! Similar thing happened to me on my last cruise. We were leaving a day earlier and that day, I won the bingo cruise. Just booked the cruise on Friday.

Call HAL to get the lowdown on the restrictions and conditions - there are several. You should be able to use it on any cruise, though, not just Mexico or the Caribbean. But there is still a cost for the non discountable portion of the fare and the port fees and taxes - typically $300 pp plus the cost of higher categories if you want to upgrade from an MM.

Yes, that is what we discovered when we won a free cruise also. We have also discovered that certain promotions are not applicable when using your free cruise. So, not to knock it, as it still results in a great discount, but it ain't "free".

I booked my cruise also. I had been wanting to try a Caribbean cruise with HAL, so that's what I booked. We upgraded to a verandah and since we booked early we got to pick exactly the stateroom we wanted. The future credit help offset some of the taxes and fees.

I'm not usually so lucky. I told my friends it reminded me of going to the casino, expect for the part about winning.

So true. Our free cruise cost over $1K for 5 days! And one doesn't get any OBC or other special promotions with it except the shareholder benefit.

This free cruise will cost me about that also, but that includes an upgrade to a verandah stateroom. If I had chosen anything other that the 7 day Caribbean or Mexican cruise, I would have been given a $900 credit. Not free, but better than a stick in the eye.

Yes, we upgraded to a VB, but our cruise is a 5 day repo. And you're right, it is better than a kick in the butt! I have to keep remembering the $1K discount on the full fare. Maybe I'll keep playing bingo and buying cruise lottery tickets after all!
