Live from Explorer's 14 Night Repositioning S. Caribbean cruise to Port Canaveral

As I said, they aren't letting us outside at all, so I could not go out on Deck 4, but here are a couple of artistic shots through the rain-dotted doors:

And of course, these are on exhibit everywhere:

Only thing that is annoying was the elevators were out on the one end of ship. And of course no Eagles game live

they Won !! :}

D20's life boat looks like this now:

Captain Rick announced that there is passenger lifeboat space for 3,700 and there are 3,030 on board, so in case of emergency, we will be reapportioned to other lifeboats!

stay safe carol !!

thanks for the great pic Merrion_Mom! The waves look outrageous. glad to hear that everyone is safe and no damage to the ship. We get on her in Ft Lauderdale on 4 Dec. Hope the rest of your cruise is smooth sailing.
Ditto on the the thanks for posting this great report.

Also hope the rest of your cruise is smooth sailing.

This weather system is a doozy -- cold here in SC (near Hilton Head) and Columbia, SC had snow yesterday.

Carol, if that is what the seas looked like in the daytime I would only imagine what they could have looked like at night. Hopefully things will smooth out and improve quickly. Glad to hear that you are OK, but I could imagine the forces to put anyone on the floor, especially mid-ship.

Was it just me, our did anyone else notice the manufacture's first name on the life boat. After that weather and seas, there might have been a few who could've done what the first name sounds like, perhaps in bed.

I've always found that highly amusing. Very mature, I know ;)

So where are the best hotspots on the ship?

...

I'll piggyback on MM's great thread: best spots are in line below RC Online (Library on 7 and Future Cruise Sales area on 6) and the Viking Crown Lounge. I even got a signal in the Schooner Bar, although it was thready...

I'm onboard for this cruise, too, and will probably post a separate thread... once I figure out how to upload photos... and sneak some time from all the activities to write up reports! So far, even wet, rainy, and with the big bang, it's a great cruise and a great cruise critic gang onboard. More details to come.

Thanks to all for the good wishes. It is remarkable no one was injured given the size of the wave as described by Captain Rick, and the damage it caused to the ship. Whew!

You can actually see the progress on the new terminal by comparing this picture to the one in my first thread.

The walkway-gangway-entrance thingy (sorry about all of the technical language ;)) is now "ready", stretching from the building to where it will meet the Quantum.

It was COLD today, and wet. The pool had the netting on, and there was barely a soul in sight.

We left late, as most of you noticed on the webcam. But finally we started to slide away from Cape Liberty for the final time.

It was very emotional, quietly passing the Teardrop 9/11 Memorial:

You don't see a lot of Florida departures with empty pool decks on sail away. :D

It was very windy this weekend in PC though

And to piggyback on Denise's piggyback...........;) :D

I got a good, strong signal IN THE THEATER tonight before the show.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that the show was HORRENDOUS. That's an hour of my life I'll never get back again!

The strong movements of the ship led to the decision to postpone "Fast Forward" with the RC Singers & Dancers. There was a ventriloquist named Brad Cummings. Awful, just awful.

But on a more upbeat note, this is the Photo Of The Day, perhaps Of The Cruise.

Ladies and Gentlemen, for your viewing pleasure, I give you.............

The Scooter.

Tonight's dinner. I didn't eat all day. Not sick or anything; just napping and resting.

So I began dinner with two cups of chicken consommé.

Ruth, the vegan, had this lovely melon appetizer. When it was first presented, there was a dollop of yogurt on top. Oops..........NO! The issue was quickly resolved.

Then I had the roman vignole salad with salmon:

1507900_10205126759436770_3837508488716342467_n.jpg

and the angus beef sliders, which I removed from the rolls. And forgot to take a picture. But just imagine widdle hamburgers. ;)

Question - is there any warning that a wave of that size may hit?

Unfortunately there is no way to warn of a rogue wave.

I have 2 friends on that ship, hopefully they are OK

We arrived in Port Canaveral this morning on the Freedom, and last night the ride was a rough one. High winds, waves etc. The Explorer is a tough old bird, she'll persevere thanks to a great crew

Here is a deep, profound, philosophical question to ponder:

On a ship with 3,031 passengers, of whom THIRTY are children.........

why does there have to be a "late night comedian"?

Can we really not just have him whenever we want?????

Talk amongst yourselves.

After the show, we made a mad dash out the door in front of the crowd, and discovered that the outside deck on Deck 4 was now partly open.

I was able to take these two photographs of "my" lifeboat.

For those of you who are new to cruising, or are unfamiliar with lifeboats, they are NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SITTING ON THE DECK. ;) :p  :D

You can also try the areas near the forward elevators, above Cafe Promenade. I have had good luck there...even on deck 10.
