Muster Drill

Do we have to take our life preserver to muster drill? I seem to recall that we did not have to on our Princess cruise a year ago.

Take but carry-do not wear or put on until they tell you at your muster station!!

It seems to vary .... I remember reading here on CC that on one at least one ship, life jackets did not have to be taken to Muster Drill. Might have been to Royal or the Regal.

 

I have never been on a Princess cruise where it was not required ..... yet.

I strongly believe that regardless of how long its been since you cruised last its always good to get that few minutes of familiarazation and hands on. During a crisis it could save your or a fellow cruisers life.

Depends on the cruise. We have been on 3 cruises this year. 2 cruises we were asked to bring the life preservers and one cruise we were told not to.

I agree, that on Princess we always take the life jacket. Guess I was remembering the time on Celebrity when we were told not to take the jacket with us. Just wanted to see if I was remembering correctly. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting this. Gives me hopes we may not have to take our life jackets with us to Muster Drill on our upcoming on Ruby in January like we have always had to do on other Princess cruises.

We were just on Star November 14-24. We were required to bring the life jackets to muster. Like most things with Princess, the only consistent thing about the policy is the inconsistency.

I would imagine the first day Patter will give that info. Be prepared to take yours until you hear otherwise.

I think this was discussed a few months ago. I remember someone saying Princess was trying out a new program. Only those that were Elite and I think Platinum did not have to carry them but anyone with a blue card was required to bring them. We were also on the Grand in October and did not have to bring the vest to muster.

You forgot about Commodores who earned their Elite before sailing?

On Ruby Princess last month everyone was required to bring their life jackets.

(Interesting aside: I heard the muster leader mention that the 700 pax on the second leg of a B2B were not required to attend the drill)

But I have never seen any passenger carrying a life preserver, nor seen its use demonstrated at the drill. Now you have me wondering if aside from the number of those orange rings hanging outside on the open decks, is there a life preserver for everyone onboard :confused:

They don't get life jackets. They get water wings and swimming lessons in the pool on the first sea day.

So THAT was how the Norovirus kept coming back! Nobody thought to sterilize the life jacket whistles. ;)

For a month or so earlier this year, Princess experimented with not requiring passengers to bring the life jacket to the drill.

 

The experiment is over. On all ships now, you must bring the life jacket.
